Newcastle Line Up Arsenal Defender To Replace Debuchy?

The Independent are reporting that Newcastle would like to bring Arsenal right full-back Carl Jenkinson to Newcastle during the summer.

Carl Jenkinson – Newcastle interested

The Harlow-born Jenkinson joined Arsenal in 20011 after leaving  a club Alan Pardew used to manage – Charlton Athletic – and he’s played 54 times for Arsenal and has one full cap for England, and has also played for all the English Youth sides.

Carl has been battling French International Bacary Sagna for the right back spot at Arsenal, but Bacary will leave Arsenal when his contract runs out at the end of June, and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will bring in another top young player at right back to replace the Frenchman.

We’re not sure why  Newcastle are targeting a right back, since we have Mathieu Debuchy, Davide Santon. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Ryan Taylor, who can play in that position.

But maybe it’s in case our top French International Mathieu Debuchy will leave the club in  the summer.

Carl is English and Alan Pardew has made it known that he wants more English players in his squad, but we wonder how much Newcastle will have to pay for a 22 year-old English International – maybe Carl could come in for around £5M?

Jenkinson fits the profile of players Mike Ashley wants to bring to Newcastle, he’s young and only turned 22 last month, and he is an attack minded right back and will only improve with more Premier League experience.

He has appeared 19 times for Arsenal this season, and that includes three games in the Champions League.

We hope Newcastle are not targeting the right back in case the club expects to sell Mathieu Debuchy this summer, because at some point we have to keep our best players and not sell them to the highest bidder, which we have just done with Yohan Cabaye.

That’s assuming Mike Ashley wants to build a top team that can challenge for the top six in the Premier League.

I actually like him, but we’ve no chance of signing him, unless it’s on loan.

I can see Debuchy leaving. Top player but 28 (29?)
He wont be worth much at the end of his contract
so if we are going to cash in, now is the time.

He’s also a life long Arsenal fan.
Can’t really see why he’d be in a hurry to leave tbh

Way out of order making offensive comments about a posters mother. Totally out of order. Apology should be due.

There won’t be an apology from me mister tiff.

You can’t go around hitting people with a stick and then cry when you get hit back.

    End of story.

Belfast -there’s a distinction between having a go at another poster -for whatever reasons and saying something offensive about his mother -might have been said in jest -but it’s a step too far and in bad taste. Costs nothing to apologise and bury the hatchet.

‘At some point we’ve got to keep our best players and not sell them to the highest bidder’

We actually did that for the past 2 seasons to be fair, was Ba’s meddlesome agents that got him the move and Cabaye had grown too good for us. Unfortunately if we don’t move quickly to strengthen the squad players like Debuchy will become dillusioned and will want to leave.

Belfast -I go by the presumption that most folk on here can give as good as they get -generally. So if you have a spat with someone on here between the two protagonists -well fair enough. However, as Ciaran said earlier on – its bad form saying something about a posters mother.
We presume another poster is robust -probably because of his presence on a football blog -however we do not know family circumstances -somebody’s mother could have died last week, be suffering from a life threatening disease etc etc. A good yardstick is to reverse the situation – would you like a similar thing said about your mother -I presume not. I can only offer you an independent view to consider -after that it’s up to you.

Lifelong arsenal fan or not, he’ll be ambitious! With 1 international cap, if hed have played games consistently he could have been on that plane to brazil but hes further away than ever from the england side!
Pretty sure hes meant to be a centreback by trade tho and a makeshift full back?

I wouldn’t mind him he’s a decent young English right back, as long as he plays with a bit of passion aswell and knows the importance of the tyne-wear derby then that’s good enough for me!

As for tommorow I wouldn’t mind seeing this as our starting line up but I know it’s never going to happen….

    Elliot
    M’biwa willo collo dummet
    Tiote Anita sissoko
    HBA Armstrong gouffran

I still highly rate Elliot and I think he deserves a crack, HBA could be a menace for palaces defence and we may aswell give Armstrong a shot, give him half and cisse a half each.

Senor Tuff…we have three subs so you can always take Benny out if he is not fit for a whole game!

…would probably be better for Pardew to start Benny if he wants to blame him for the outcome – always a bit sad when a manager blames players who have had less than 20 mins to impact the game 🙁

So Carl Jenkinson? That is not going to happen!

I would like debuchy to stay to be honest. Although one of our older players hes as fit as a butchers dog the lad never stops running. Cant see the issue of cashing in, we’ve got collo whos 32 who wanted away yet we kept him. However if he asks to go or a top european side come in then can’t begrudge the lad. 2-0 today although the downside is doing the scum a favour!

Haven’t been a member of this blog very long but half of the posts seem to be keyboard warriors slagging each other off from the safety of their devices. I thought the idea of the site was to have football discussions and broadcast rumours, not be in an electronic playground calling each other. Maybe lots of you are 14 years old so this is normal.
    Not what I expected

Not good enough for us but he will be cheap and Ashley will make a nice profit on Debuchy when he sells him, We will struggle to attract decent players soon so championship standard players like Jenkinson will be as good as it gets.
