Newcastle missed a number of chances in this game against Crystal Palace, and it wasn’t one of their best performances by a long way, and Papiss Cisse was much like last week, and in this game he had three decent chances, and to his credit he had the ball on goal each time, but the goalkeeper saved all three.
But with the game going towards the 0-0 draw many expected from two sides who’ve found it difficult to score goals, Ben Arfa, who had come on after 59 minutes for the ineffective Luuk de Jong, sent in a beautiful cross that Cisse headed home in great style with 93:14 on the clock.
Papiss Cisse – scores sensational winner in added time
This will do Papiss Cisse the world of good and Newcastle the world of good too – it’s just what we needed – all 3 points and we weren’t too bothered how we got them. 😀
A minute before the goal a fantastic thunderbolt shot from Cheick Tiote hit the cross-bar and then Yanga-Mbiwa put the ball to Cisse in the six yard box but Papiss just couldn’t get to the ball.
If Newcastle hadn’t scored the late winner we would have been asking how we hadn’t won this game.
Sunderland lost 2-0 at Chris Hughton’s Norwich City.
We’ll have a full report coming out later.

Comment #3As much as Ben Arfa providing the assist, Anita deserves MOTM for me. Although without Ben Arf’a’s assist and Cisse’s goal we wouldn’t of claimed all 3 points. Joint Ben Arfa/Anita for me.

loved it, total idiots
hba is our most creative player, by far,
his stats also say he was more creative than cabaye,
to bad we have a donkey as a manager, that only wants work mules in the team, we have plenty of asses who will follow him too
king of the asses = manx eeor

Comment #5Anita played a great game, but all the headlines belong to Cisse – and rightly so. Hopefully that will lay his demons to rest and he now starts banging them in like we know he can.

Comment #10Cisse would have been MOTM by a country mile if his finishing was a bit sharper, everything else about his game was polished. Nice touches, tracking back, breaking the offside trap, getting himself into scoring positions etc…
Ben Arfa is such a class act though, he gets my vote.
Sissoko & Anita were impressive.

He was offside. Once. in the first 10 mins of the 2nd half. when mbiwa played an over top ball on palace right hand side.

Comment #13problem with Benny is that he can’t keep this intensity in the while game. And his absence in defending does hinder us against bigger teams.
He’s not an automatic starter, he’s not complete enough for that. He should be used strategically. Some games he starts and in some cases he should come from the bench.

Comment #15HBA might be a game changer but you cant expect 90 mins when he’s just come back from injury. Half of you lot would have him on from the start which would only result in more time on the sidelines. Seriously think about it

Comment #16sissoko and arfa need to be our wingers but arfa needs to realise he needs to play like that every game as he can work magic like that and not be the greedy %^&*he is for 95% of his games.
anita had an awsome game also just a shame the little lad isnt a bit bigger as he gets pushed off far too easily but he was very effective and dangerous going forward.
tiote again i couldnt fault for his all round play and esp the attacking side to him he’s got since cabaye has left.
think dummett is ready to be rested now and hairdryer once back needs to have a turn as he’s far more mobile than dummett just untill dummett finds his legs again.

Comment #181st time I have ever reposted but —
Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves for the abuse you give Cisse and the awful names you call him.The lad put a shift in today and was the only one who looked like scoring.Yes he missed a sitter but his head didn’t go down and still bounced back and scored the winner. He also got on the end of a lot of chances and was unlucky not too get more.Short memories a lot of you.Hang your heads in shame.Oh and don’t choke on the humble pie 🙂

Comment #19I still don’t believe that result. Looked all the way a 0-0 draw -real poor game. I think Palace might justifiably think they’ve been mugged at the death.
It’s 3 points but also poor quality football.

thats where you are soooo wrong,,
he should start every game and play for 90 mins when ever he can,
with out him , we have zero unpradictability , our team is so drone like its untrue, he is the only one who will pick the ball up and try something different,
if you dont want to see that , then you would have also cast aside ppl like ginola, gazza , beardo, waddle, and stuck with players like perch, des hamilton
like i have said many times, HBA has more goals and assists than cabaye per minutes played, by a long way, and he is nearly 4 times more productive than sissoko and anita,,
in times like this, we need our most creative/åroductive players playing

people like me and TADS are critics of HBA because he is so inconsistant, the time he can play like messi and ronaldo is when we are on the counter. when teams park the bus we want crosses which he doesn’t do.
this game today could have been 0-0 because for all we know HBA himself might have skyed that ball just like he did with his chance a prior to that.
If HBA was world class then cisse can be considered world class himself because he does have lots of shots at goal.

Comment #29Great to see Cisse finally get his goal, he had a good game. His movement was very good, he’s starting to look like the player he used to be 😉
Not the best of performances in general, we’re lacking creativity with no Cabaye in the side. 2-3 new players in the summer, and Toon will be challenging for Europe next year.

Comment #33Regarding the game, im not sure what to think… Im impressed that we can get a late win like that, but at the same time we should have had it in the bag much earlier. So who is to blame? The owner? The manager? The staff? The players?. Its probably a bit of everything. Ill reserve judgement till the summer though, some impressive signings can really turn this club around, even if we arent that well of in any of the areas I just mentioned, we still have a bit of fight about us, and our player base, although not great, is good enough to build on… I still feel the biggest chance for us to move on to the next level would be a more ambitious owner, but I dont think we will get that.

i will defend those who had doubts about cisse as i have said over his past 10 or so games more or less the same thing !
he did score and he did gain us an extra 2 points and i really hope he turns into the striker he once was as he was once our savior and gained us many points with his goals.
this season however and this includes chances in this game where i think he’s had many many chances created to him on a plate where i think even shola ameobi could have scored them if i was to put them in cisse’s position.
and in many cases luuk/shola/goofy have been a lot more usefull to our team than cisse has been !

And? He did miss an open goal and a hat full of sitters, well taken goal at the end, will it change his fortunes? Not convinced but his finishing was far from sharp and took 94 minutes for him to bag his first goal on open play for over a year
That is simply not good enough when you have the number 9 on his back
Speaking of stupid comments any take on Colo’s solid display today?

Comment #38Was i the only one watching this game ? don’t get me wrong im happy we won and im happy Cisse finally got a goal. But he is a terrible striker and doesn’t make the grade at Newcastle at all.
He cannot finish to save his life, unless the ball is basically blasted off him or its snap shot that he doesn’t have to think about.
Countless opportunity’s he had to put this game to bed throughout the game and he failed. Just because he scored doesn’t make him the hero.

Certainly wasn’t a great game tbh, we were under very little pressure had plenty of possession but didn’t do much with it
Started to control it completely about the 60th minute, could of won by 3 or 4 but at the same time we could of lost by the same amount, HBA came on took imo a little time to get into it and looked like he’s perhaps still struggling for fitness so don’t expect him to start vs Everton, grew into the game though
But on the whole the display was……disjointed? No real urgency or sharpness in the play, more kick and rush, lots of sloppy passing
Anita had a decent game mind
3 points but if we play like that against Everton we’ll get slaughtered
