Newcastle missed a number of chances in this game against Crystal Palace, and it wasn’t one of their best performances by a long way, and Papiss Cisse was much like last week, and in this game he had three decent chances, and to his credit he had the ball on goal each time, but the goalkeeper saved all three.
But with the game going towards the 0-0 draw many expected from two sides who’ve found it difficult to score goals, Ben Arfa, who had come on after 59 minutes for the ineffective Luuk de Jong, sent in a beautiful cross that Cisse headed home in great style with 93:14 on the clock.
Papiss Cisse – scores sensational winner in added time
This will do Papiss Cisse the world of good and Newcastle the world of good too – it’s just what we needed – all 3 points and we weren’t too bothered how we got them. 😀
A minute before the goal a fantastic thunderbolt shot from Cheick Tiote hit the cross-bar and then Yanga-Mbiwa put the ball to Cisse in the six yard box but Papiss just couldn’t get to the ball.
If Newcastle hadn’t scored the late winner we would have been asking how we hadn’t won this game.
Sunderland lost 2-0 at Chris Hughton’s Norwich City.
We’ll have a full report coming out later.

Comment #41manx -overall though it wasn’t a particularly high quality game. Basically two crap sides without much imagination. We did look more purposeful/threatening when Benny came on though -he”s got a good turn of speed.
As for Cisse -I’ll celebrate if this is the end of the drought – but I have to doubt it at this stage. I still recall that wonder goal against Chelsea and the video of the Five Live studio was put out -focusing on Steve Claridge -who was speechless after seeing the goal. Seems a far off memory now.

Comment #42TADS – the keeper made three fantastic saves against Cisse or he would be celebrating a hat-trick.

tbf those shots where straight at the keeper and he only needed to stand there to block the shots the same with some of his previous games where he’s had easy chances.
but i’m not one to dwell on the past i just hope it was a confidence thing as lets face it we wont have remy next year so he will be our main striker again.

Comment #44@42 the keeper made some decent saves, if they were against Krul and he let them in i would be furious they are saves that keepers at that level are expected to make

Comment #47@46 its harsh to be on his back yes but at the same time for a £9m transfer that set the league a light when he signed and wears the legendary number 9 shirt you have to question why he is still at the club after the performances hes had and his disastrous seasons at Newcastle

The keeper made 3 saves, wouldn’t call them fantastic, all 3 were straight at him, if Krul had let one of them in we’d be bitterly disappointed in him at that level

Comment #49tuff nah not at all and thats why i say how poor our final balls were plus if remy was in cisse’s place we probably would have won 3 or 4 nil
but we weren’t really that bothered over all at least where i was worried that much
but i felt cisse looked much more switched on and only had 1 offside which is a plus in anyones eyes!!

Comment #50LDJ struggling to make and impact yet. Looks a bit weak – struggling on the physical side. Has some work to do if we wants to stay.

Comment #51Out of Sissoko and Cisse for me. Ben Arfa? Was lazy as when he came on.

Comment #52Wow. Plenty of insults on here and people jumping to conclusions. So Ben Arfa is the best player in the world and Pardew is an idiot for not seeing it? This is despite him being injured for the last month so unavailable…and this is despite fans getting frustrated with him when he starts because he keeps losing the ball on the halfway line and letting the opposition attack…
If he can adapt to our style of play then he can be an excellent player but he can also be a liability at times. Today…he got the assist and Cisse got the goal, doesn’t mean they’re both amazing!

Comment #54Cisse was fantastic today. First shot was straight at the keeper, 2nd was a greatly timed volley, 3rd was a difficult header. Ran the channels and provided some great crosses that De Jong should have thrown himself at. Can’t understand the criticism. Deserved his goal.

Comment #55I still believe Cisse to be a striker that can average a goal every 2 games, he has the predatory instincts, but just needs to get his finishing touch back.
Cisse looks a natural out and out forward with his movement, he gets himself into goal scoring positions, even in bad form, which is a good sign.
I don’t think LDJ should play for us again, unless he starts showing something special in training. He takes up space that other players could be using to better effect.

Comment #56tads that 2nd “chance” was actually a brilliant shot on goal tbf imo the speed it came at him and his movement to get it on target was the old cisse lo

Volley was a good effort but his first effort, his header, the one where Sissoko put him through, it was just hit it as soon as I can, no attempt to place the ball
Full of confidence maybe a different story

Comment #60Remember, Cisse’s been on the bench most games .
11/12 – 13 goals in 14 games (1106mins) = goal every 85 mins.
12/13 – 13 goals in 47 games (3775) = goal per 290 mins.
13/14 – 4 goals in 21 games (1295) = goal per 323 mins.

Comment #65LDJ was fairly dissapointing today and made an out of form cisse look good. Where was sammy ameobi today ? Surely he deserved to be on the bench when he was one of our best players through that rough period.
