This Player Narrowly Wins Our Man Of The Match

1:55 pm, Monday, March 24th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 82 Comments

Papiss Cisse has come through after the early voting favored Hatem Ben Arfa, and now Papiss Cisse looks to be our Man of the Match for Saturday, edging out the French International by about 4%.

papiss cisse scores palace

Pappis Cisse – scored sensation late winner – YES!!

It’s probably fitting that the scorer of the winning goal is our Man of the Match, and Papiss looked sharp on Saturday and was unlucky not to score more goals, although he did miss a couple of good chances.

And Hatem was the big danger man once he came on with about 30 minutes still to play, and he set up Papiss’ goal quite brilliantly.

Here’s the final results of the poll.

    Not Mr, Coloccini!

  • 2 mindshaft // Mar 24, 2014 at 2:03 PM

Funny that Spurs and Swansea have caught Pard fever and are now saying Europa league has left them tired – Wigan ( YES WIGAN ) who lost thier best players and were also in the Europa, have managed to storm to the playoffs and the semi final of the FA cup and will play at least 60 games this season with a small squad (compared to most)
Prem league managers and footballers are prima donnas who forever bang on that they play too many games – pathetic – they make my p!55 boil

One thing I do agree with Percy Parsnip about is his dislike for the Europa League. Far too many games, not enough financial rewards, falls into disrepute when at the later stages Champions League club join in.
So there need to be less games.
    Increase prize monies.
Stop CL teams coming into the competition.

  • 9 mag // Mar 24, 2014 at 2:12 PM

If a club wants to avoid any interference from cup competitions then they should appoint Alan Pardew as their manager.

  • 10 Ciaran // Mar 24, 2014 at 2:13 PM

    Tuff

Having CL teams dropping into it takes the legitimacy from it as a competition and given how the lack of financial rewards for EL football was given as an example of why we weren’t interested in competing for it surely it is something that UEFA need to address.

I don’t have faith in the governing bodies in football, from the FA, to UEFA and FIFA – it is all about protecting the big clubs.

I’m sure we won on Saturday? Didn’t we? Give the arguments a rest it’s getting very tedious now with the holier than now bullsh!t gents! Everyone has a different opinion on NUFC related topics.

  • 16 AndyNUFC // Mar 24, 2014 at 2:21 PM

    @14.
Slow? His pace means absolutely nothing when he can read the game so well.

Constantly injured? He’s gave his best years to us and last year got injured from an overhead kick – He’s missed a few games but so do every footballer, hardly missed the whole season.

Sorry but for those reasons you give I can safely say you’re the only deluded person on here.

What advise do you have for someone who has lost all interest in results because our season ended in January? Should their willingness to voice their opinions be based on our results?

  • 19 AndyNUFC // Mar 24, 2014 at 2:23 PM

    Wolf, thanks!… I think haha.

I just can’t believe people who support NUFC don’t have time for Coloccini. For me, he’s the best defender we’ve ever had, a class player and should be a club ambassador after retiring. A deserved captain of an undeserving team.

  • 20 mag // Mar 24, 2014 at 2:26 PM

Your mental constipation is staggering, so you admit his best years and his legs have gone yet your still in favour of him staying.

  • 21 mindshaft // Mar 24, 2014 at 2:27 PM

I’ve sent an email to Ed so no doubt he’ll add this to one of his next posts but thought I’d ask on here as well.

I’m doing a post grad thesis on eroticism and the fabled female g-spot, I’d therefore like to ask your help by asking your wives and girlfriends to assist me by popping round mine for a bit of rumpy pumpy – I’m only looking for good looking slim women at the moment although if needs must and your mums a milf I’ll take her as well.
Thanks in advance for helping me out, it means a lot to me to see the brotherhood of the toon help each other out

    Mag please learn to read.

I said he has gave us his best years. A centre back’s best years typically go on until they’re at least 34 or if they’re fit or talented as Coloccini can go on until nearing 40. I never said he was past it, however you have made your case “he’s slow and wants to leave” as an excuse to sell our captain and arguably best player.

He only wants to leave because of a sensitive family issue, although I think 99% of fans would rather him sort it out and stay be able to see his career out here.

    wolfshead —indeed booty = treasure.

ciaran – I was watching Blatter on the telly last night fobbing of all questions about corruption -on the basis there was an investigation taking place -allegedly due to report in about a year. It’s been on the go at least a year already. Will FIFA report the investigation in full or will they doctor it up.

One of the most corrupt was Jack Warner from Trinidad/Tobago. He started off in life as a teacher on the island -a relatively poor man – he is now a multi millionaire -owns load of properties and got to be deputy PM of T&T. Blatter has been thwarting these investigations for years -but I think the ex US Attorney leading the investigations will keep digging. I believe Russia -another conspirator in the Dubai bid have refused entry to the attorney to conduct enquiries. So I have no faith in FIFA/governing bodies in general doing anything constructive.

He’ll be calling Pardew a cockney again soon, the muppet.
Tell you what mag, why don’t you spend a bit of quiet time brushing up on football management, centre backs and a few other of the fascinating aspects of following a football team, and then come back to the blog and engage us all in some worthwhile discussions.

    Interest in Conor Newton.

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11678/9230049/transfer-news-newcastle-midfielder-conor-newton-watched-by-several-clubs

Perhaps most telling is that the English interest is from Championship clubs, not PL.

I don’t really watch any Scottish football, has anyone seen how Newton has been getting on?

I’m guilty of getting somewhat nasty towards certain posters – that isn’t my default setting, merely history with certain people on this site.

I have pretty strong opinions, I don’t mince my words, and sometimes I would be better served to be more diplomatic or on the fence about things, but that isn’t being true to my nature. I slate certain players, praise others, and have a particular agenda against Mike Ashley which rubs a lot of people up the wrong way, but I stand firmly behind my beliefs until such times evidence suggest I may be wrong, then I promptly change my view. I try and get along with everyone but it’s impossible.

As for this blog? The quality has been on the wane for a while – and just as I’ve typed this, Ibiza has popped up ;)

    Tuff

Well they aren’t even being subtle about their corruption any more are they? Qatar and Russia hosting massive tournaments despite their human rights abuses and notoriety for intolerance. Not to mention the fact that Qatar summers are blistering hot thus prompting discussions of a Winter World Cup – surely that would have been a consideration BEFORE they were granted the bid?

Here is hoping that we see some transparency at last, but football as a sport is littered with corruption, under the table deals and quid-pro-quo dealings.

I hope we can get back to a purer form of football support, as football has evolved into something unrecognisable from 20+ years ago.

OK so Guvnor has labelled me a ‘prat’, ‘mug’ and suffering a ‘mental illness’. Well done but maybe in secondary school you’ll learn a bit of vocabulary and awareness of things like mental illness…

…Anyway the confirmation of his current primary school education is shown by referencing 3 games; against Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal to show Coloccini is past it. Funny because I’m quite sure I remember he wasn’t the only player who had a bad game on those examples, but I concur, I think he might be a mackem school child also.

  • 59 jimiley // Mar 24, 2014 at 3:34 PM

I see the man with the money is planning to sell the land at the Strawberry end. He will make many millions more. Why would he do that and not sell the land to the new buyer of the club? Coz it will limit the capacity of the ground to the current level forever. It is a scandal and proves that the man with the money is trying to strangle the club to death. He is slowly destroying our great club.
