Newcastle Again Interested In Top Senegal Striker

Newcastle were today again linked with highly rated striker Sadio Mane, who plays for Red Bull Salzburg, and it’s the second tine we have been linked with the midfielder this month.

Sadio Mane

Sadio Maine – 15 times capped Senegal midfielder

The Mirror has reported today that Tottenham were one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing the 5’9″ tall player who was born in Sedhiou in Senegal.

The paper is reporting that Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in signing the 21 year-old, and if that’s true Newcastle may not have much chance in tying up this very good youngster.

21 year-old Sadio Mane turns 22 on April 10th, and is said to be rated at around £10M, and he played four times in the London Olympics for the Senegal side.

Mane  joined French club Metz in the summer of 2011, and then in the summer of 2012 he joined Red Bull Salzburg for £4M.

Newcastle’s Chief Scout Graham Carr has been watching him a number of in Austria, as Newcastle are lining up as many as seven different transfer targets for the summer.

The People reported at the beginning of March that Sadio was even keen to come to Newcastle, where he will find a lot of French-speaking players ,and of course Papiss Cisse has been here for just over two years.

If Newcastle manage to sign him he would settle down very quickly, and the advantage Newcastle have is they could offer him first team football immediately.

His goal-scoring record at Salzburg is terrific – and he’s played 70 times for Salzburg with 39 goals and 26 assists, and is currently a hot property in Europe.

This season he has 41 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg with 20 goals and 16 assists and is having a terrific season.

If Newcastle are really interested in this player, we have to hope they will move quickly and get him signed up before even more top clubs become interested in the young striker.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Note: Sean Borland is a student in Newcastle and will not be at either the Man United (5 April) or Swansea (19 April) games – and he has tickets – £30 for the ManU game and £20 for the Swansea game – you can contact him at sean4eva@hotmail.co.uk or sean4eva09 on twitter.

Thats a lot of money to spend on a player from the Austrian Bundesliga…. Id use mohammed Saleh as a price comparison! Same age/position, Saleh was playing in a stronger league and performing in the champions league and only cost 9m and he has greater marketing potential in north africa and middle east! (His endorsments are surprisingly high)
Anything below 7m and hes possibly a good deal but the austrian league is a woeful standard worse than scotland, holland, swiss etc

Plays behind the striker and is not an out and out striker.

From Austria I’d go with Philip Hosiner , who is a hell of a finisher with good pace.

If he’s on the steps of SJP, in a Black & White shirt, I’ll probably believe it. Until that point its simply yet another fairy tale; no doubt one of hundreds we will see before the end of August.

The club need to recruit some decent players to replace the deadwood such as Shola Saylor Coloccini who are well past their prime.

Oh Yeah I wasn’t doing that but I will try that now =)

I think Willo will get goal by mistake from Jagielka. Cisse will score wondergoal from an assist from De Jong. And Shola will get on in the last minutes to defend our lead.

I saw on Get Football News’ twitter page us being linked with Lukaku. Would be a Shearer like signing that would bring loads of excitement to the club! If Cardiff are relegated i would love to see a bid for Caulker. He looks like the future for England! should be an exciting summer window!

If you mean exciting in the sense that we’ll be flogging a good many players with no certainty of having them replaced and being faced with the prospect of starting next season with Papiss Cisse as our #1 striker despite the fact that he has only scored 2 goals in the league all season then yes, it will be exciting…

Everton . Manager Martinez has had a fair amount of luck with the players he inherited

Tonight’s tactics will be to hit us on the break and play keep ball first half ..First half will be a relaxed slow affair by them..Continue the keep ball tactics second half..soak it up then hit us ..I think we will score twice. Hit them on the break ..its going to be like a game of chess until last 20 mins.

I agree, I’m being a little over optimistic but I have a good feeling about this summer. I think Carr will become director of Football operations and he and pardew will really push for some big transfers.

Well I for one base my approach to Newcastle United based on the facts. Being optimistic these days sort of means neglecting the facts in order to maintain a positive outlook. Believe it or not but I actually am an incredibly positive person in other aspects of my life, and I would be positive about NUFC if I was given ANY just reason to be positive. It is just Ashley has reached a point of no return for me, and any optimism is misplaced, misguided and ultimately damaging as it will only be betrayed by Ashley over and over again.

Just can’t believe West Brom have only 5 wins this season so far! Yet they aren’t in the bottom 3. Fulham’s goal difference of -40 is mind boggling as well. Of course it doesn’t take much to boggle my mind. 😆

Somebody actually said that this summer would be the true test of Mashleys ambition this summer, we have been hearing that every window for the last three years, along with Pardew talking about signings, the reason Mashers never speaks publicly about his intentions for us is that there’d be riots if he did.

I feel fairly optimistic that Ashley will screw up the summer window. He isn’t finished making cockups with us yet. He’ll lay low on the final day of the window and let Pardew look like the fool with the excuses. Very clever strategy. You see there is something we can be optimistic about.

    ciaran,

about effin time i get a response from you 🙂

we all know your stance when it comes to our club, and ive never once debated your opinions… i tend to look at the beer half full, rather than half empty, and hopefully ashley will bring us a few pints in the next window….

it could be worse, we could be facing relegation, like last year… im not saying, like kevin bacon in animal house, ‘all is well, all is well!”, but not worrying about going down has been nice thus far…

yes, we need a better manager, a better owner, a more entertaining brand and style of football, and, most definitely, our aspirations should never be to settle for 8th to 10th.. were NUFC…. and we deserve better, and i do hope one day we will….

i have no solution to the issues, all i want is to see our club move upwards and onwards, but i will not smacktalk others because their opinions differ, my friend…
