Newcastle Linked With Basel’s Argentine Center-Back

There is news in talkSPORT that Newcastle are in a battle with Spanish club Atletico Madrid for 24 year-old Argentine defender Gaston Sauro, who is currently playing for Swiss club Basel.

Gaston Sauro – 24 year-old Argentine defender

Newcastle will be letting local lad Steven Taylor leave in the summer, and the Magpies may also lose captain Fabricio Coloccini, who may return to Buenos Aries to be with his family, so it’s not surprising that Newcastle will be after one or more center-backs this summer.

Sauro started his career at Boca Juniors in Buenos Aries, and he moved to Switzerland in July of 2012 and he has a contract with Basel that still has two years to run in June.

Sauro has played very well for Basel in the Champions League this season, and he has attracted interest from at least Newcastle United and Atletico Madrid, and the Madrid club can offer him European football, and they are currently top of the Spanish League.

The news is that Newcastle have been scouting the 24 year-old right-footed center-back for a few months now, and the Tyneside club will try to sign the 6’3″ defender early in the summer.

Sauro has played 57 times for Basel with three goals, and while at Boca Juniors he played 16 times with one goal.

Comments welcome.

Note: Sean Borland is a student in Newcastle and will not be at either the Man United (5 April) or Swansea (19 April) games – and he has tickets – £30 for the ManU game and £20 for the Swansea game – you can contact him at sean4eva@hotmail.co.uk or sean4eva09 on twitter.

He looked decent in champions league games… Don’t know much about him other than that but Boca is a good youth set up much like ajax and he came through there!

Well, he could be a “Long Term” replacement for Saylor, who looks like he’s offski in the summer and if Collo decides to head off to Agentina in the summer he will be needed for sure.

wasnt here for a whilebut see nothing has changed. all I wanna say is this- all this stories like MA will buy 7 players in summer or big transfer summer ahead- just empty stories for stypid people to buy again season tickets. and then you will hear- we tried but couldnt, agents fee was too high etc. and if you people wants this club to fight for place 8-10th than buy season tickets
