Newcastle Mentioned By Top Toulouse Right Back

8:47 am, Saturday, April 5th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 9 Comments

We reported last week that Newcastle are interested in 21 year-old right back Serge Aurier, and there’s some follow up news in The Sun again, and it could even be that Newcastle are the most likely club to sign the top young Senegal full back.

Serge Aurier

Serge Aurier – Newcastle linked again with this top youngster

There are some new quotes from the player who already has 7 full caps for Senegal, and he was asked if he wanted to move abroad this summer:

“Moving abroad? I don’t think it is too early. It is about trust, and reaching a new step, I am not scared to go higher.”

“Another French club? I respect France but I would feel like betraying TFC if I would stay in Ligue 1,” and while Newcastle have a lot of French players, they don’t play in Ligue 1, yet!”

So it’s good that he mentions Newcastle – maybe he wants to come to Tyneside –  and of course he could settle down very quickly with so many French players on board, and you have to remember the Newcastle name in France is still golden.

We’re still not sure if we have a good chance of signing the player, since Arsenal are also said to be monitoring the player and with Bacary Sagna leaving the Gunners this summer when his contract runs out, Arsene Wenger will be after a suitable replacement.

Serge Aurier joined Toulouse from Lens in 2012, and this season he has made 31 appearances for the club, scored 5 goals and has 7 assists.

While at Lens he made his debt a month after turning 16 in January of 2009, in a Coupe de la Ligue match against Lorient, and finally played 55 times for the French club.

Aurier made his league debut for Toulouse in January of 2012 in a 1-0 win over Caen, and has since played 73 times for Toulouse with 7 goals and 12 assists – so this lad can score goals too.

Newcastle have also been linked with Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson, so it seems that Graham Carr is monitoring right full backs, and that’s probably in case a big bid comes in for Mathieu Debuchy this summer.

From what we have seen of Serge, he is a top young player and would be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle, but we probably only need him if Mathieu does leave in the summer?

But maybe not, if we are  building our squad for the future this summer.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

“Well you see, it’s all a load of bull”

    - Sam Allardyce, when asked about his side’s style.

    Great bit of editing SS.

Moving on to our team…I see Pardew has all but come out and mentioned that the only way we normally score was with a player who has been sold and a loan player who is currently injured. But fear not, all is most certainly not lost….just this game against Man U ;)

whats worrying is the fact he see’s it and appears to do nothing,
outside his first 11 he is stumped that’s why he plays them till they collapse, cos he has no other ideas

beermonkey…That suggests there is another way to score a goal. I request you leave such outlandish comments off the blog until everyone is awake properly.

Everyone knows a football team is 2 players who play the match and another 9 people who try and stop the other team from scoring.

my apologies I will leave my radical thinking till 14:50
I am sure it will be shot down as deep down we all know defence is best

Ben Arfa has to play as a roving 10 and take the shackles off him Pardew.

You can just see Pards after the game ‘ Yes Benny scored a wonderful hat trick but according to his tracker he only ran 3.4 miles. I expect my players all to break 5 miles at least, we will have him in for extra training for sure ‘

beermonkey…That’s quite alright, we all have these crazy ideas sometimes. I take it you’re still running on fumes from last nights antics?

Have a little sleep and let Pardew show you how it’s done this afternoon. It will sort your weekend right out.
