Santon, Gosling, Haidara Start – Armstrong, Ben Arfa On Bench

nufc emblemmanchester-united-fc.png

As expected Davide Santon comes in at right back, but there’s a bit of a surprise in that Dan Gosling is given a chance to add some much needed creativity to the Newcastle midfield and Dan gets a start this afternoon.

It looks like Vurnon Anita will play out on the right wing in place of the injured Moussa Sissoko, in a 4-4-2 formation, with Dan Gosling in central midfield, but of course the two could also switch positions.

Luuk de Jong and Papiss Cisse are again up front, but maybe Shola Ameobi will be given a chance if the two strikers look as poor as they’ve looked in the last several games.

And it’s good to see young Adam Armstrong on the bench, and also Ben Arfa, and both creative players could well see some action in the second half this afternoon.

For Manchester United Javier Hernandez gets a start up front in place of the injured Wayne Rooney, and Anders Lindegaard gets a start in goal.

76% think we’ll lose this game so the lads have nothing to lose but to go for it.

Lindegaard; Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Evra; Young, Mata, Fletcher, Fellaini, Kagawa; Chicharito

    ‘Chicharito’ uh oh.

This isn’t going to be pretty.

It is good to see Gosling getting a game, but it is slightly curious that after getting practically no game time from the bench, he comes in as a starter.

*Praying* Anita is not playing as an attacking midfielder.

“…we had no process to win the game. We need to know-clearly-what our process is.”

Hahahahahahahahahah. Have you ever heard any manager in any league at any level anywhere in the world talk about football in such terms? The “process” ffs!

What a team that is 😉 I hope Benny stays on the bench. Then blame will have to go somewhere else!

Senor Tuff…what’s normal duty Pardew-wise on here? 😉

De Jong playing must be long-ball is on the cards. To be honest, in our form, reverting back to what we know is probably best.

Williamson & Colo will be the supply to the strikers today.

I bet Mapou is giving us rave reviews to his mate Cabella. Another player that will be gone come summer if a suitor comes calling.
Leicester look more than a match for us with that team….God help us

I don’t mind Gosling starting, he should work well alongside Tiote in the middle. I would have had HBA out on the right though, but Anita can cover Santon when he goes forward so decent balance down the right.

Why no bigi on the bench, no need for Taylor or Shola, should be Bigi and Aarons making up the bench.

Correct me if I’m wrong but it’s been said from day one this season that players with under a year left on there contract will be moved on
Surely he should also be playing to attract a top offer?
Couldn’t care less if he was Cabaye was playing for a move, he put in performance after performance, maybe if those around him showed similar ambitions we wouldn’t currently be the PL whipping boys?

    Jesper
Read properly no one is blaming Benny, he deserves no special treatment and should be tarred with same brush as the rest of the woeful performances from the rest of the squad, not one player is playing with conviction so why does he deserve the unwarranted hype and praise?
Someone recently compared him with Beardsley, that’s ridiculous, Beardsley had more talent in his little toe, he didn’t need the rest of the team to be on fire to make him look a real player
Special players do special things regardless of what’s happening around them

  • De Jong shouldn’t be starting anymore games In my opinion, he’s not good enough and we won’t buy him so Armstrong needs a go. I wish Pardew was more adventurous!

Chicarito will murder Willo & Collo for pace, especially if we play a high line so M’biwa should be starting.

Also the numpty is still playing Gouffran as a winger and starting a guy in De Jong that hasn’t scored in almost a calender year.

How Alan Pardew is a manager at a decent club in what is considered the best league in the world I will never know.

Unfortunately, can’t see anything past a lost against what is a poor Man Utd team. If we are to lose today, best thing would be a spanking. Might unsettle the natives and maybe push Pardew closer to the exit

There is 0 creativity in the team. Reckon he’s reacting to conceding 4 at Southampton by sticking everyone behind the ball? A few ways to look at this. 1) I’d take a draw against Man Utd today. 2) Our season is over so who cares? May as well go for it. 3) When will Armstrong get his chance? Our strikers are so so poor. This was a great time to throw him in and let him get a taste of playing at SJP against Man Utd in front of a big crowd. 4) Man Utd are focusing on the Champs Lge. Play our flair players and we might actually beat them.

At the end of the day, whatever result happens wouldn’t surprise me. Get to the summer, sell the squad, buy a new one.

Gosling is playing because we have no other player there. He has barely started a game this season and is now required to play at top of his game against a manchester when we are in a slump.

might be a disaster waiting to happen.

Why does Pardew hate Ben Arfa so much FFS!! Gosling over him and Anita to play RW!?? A position he has never played for us before against Man U!

What a joke of a manager we have, this is beyond taking the piss. I really hope it works out but imagine what must be going through Benny’s mind seeing the likes of Anita play ahead of him and in his position!

    Pardew WTF, seriously WTF!

Woah woah, I for one am pleased Gosling starts, he’s a good player. obviously some people don’t go to benton training ground? I’ve been twice in past 2 weeks and he’s been a powerhouse. Great to see him in line up.

Give him the chance before slating him.

toonarmydownsouth – Respectfully, we will have to disagree on Ben Arfa. It is without doubt a very divisive subject on this blog.

I understand some of the criticism he attracts, but I firmly in the Ben Arfa camp. I am still a believer in Cisse too. All personal opinion of course.

Chicarito is a player I would love to see here. If our board had any ambition they would see the logic behind such a deal and stump up the cash. He’s clearly being wasted in Man U playing only a bit part role.

We need a good finisher that has bags of pace and a trick or two. Chicarito is exactly that and so is Remy but we all know he’s gone :/
