There wasn’t much that Alan Pardew could say after Newcastle were beaten 4-0 by Manchester United at home yesterday, and in our last two home matches we have leaked seven goals, and to think the coaching staff worked on the Newcastle defense all last week. 🙁
Juan Mata – after scoring killer second goal early in second half
It was a decent enough first half performance but it was a touch of class from Juan Mata that put Manchester United ahead after 39 minutes direct from a free-kick.
And when that goal went in we thought that could be it – because of our inability to score goals right now, with Loic Remy being missing.
And the second half was basically Manchester United opening up our defense three more times, and we ended up with a 4-0 defeat – again.
This is what Newcastle manager Alan Pardew told BBC Sport:
“It was a tough afternoon for us and we weren’t at our best,” “We are lacking a bit of quality at the moment and we are trying to get that on the pitch.”
“We had some good effort and commitment today, certainly better than Southampton, but I’m afraid it wasn’t good enough against a decent Manchester United.”
“We have got loads of players missing and it is really hurting us at the minute. We are desperate to get another three points, a win and a goal for the fans, but it is just not happening for us at the moment.”
It was better than at Southampton, but it was still simply not good enough, and with the players we have available at the moment we should be doing an awful lot better than the results we are getting.
That’s really the bottom line.
And our defense has leaked 12 goals in the last five games, and we now have the 4th worst defense (goals against) in the Premier League, having conceded 51 goals in 33 games. 🙁
