With our strikers seemingly unable to do what they are paid to do – score goals – one of the major pieces of business that needs to be done this summer is to bring in a number of strikers – maybe as many as four – depending on whether Newcastle keep Papiss Cisse on board.
Papiss Cisse – could be retained
Loic Remy is the only striker who has done the business at Newcastle this season with 13 goals, although Yoan Gouffran has 7 goals, but he hasn’t scored for a number of months now.
Shola Ameobi’s contract is up and will not be renewed, Loic Remy is leaving Newcastle for a bigger club, and Luuk de Jong will not be offered a permanent deal on Tyneside, because he doesn’t look good enough – and he has five games to show that’s an inaccurate assessment of him.
So here are two potential strikers Newcastle could sign this summer – and in total they shouldn’t cost more than around £8M for the two of them.
Alfred Finnbogason – Heerenveen striker
We’ve been linked with this 25 year-old striker since last summer, when he was offered to Newcastle for £5M, after he had scored 28 goals in 35 appearances in his first season at Heerenveen in the Dutch League.
But we turned that offer down, but Alfred has kept scoring goals and this season, and he has 28 goals in just 31 appearances for his Dutch club, so he can certainly bang in the goals – well at least in the Dutch league.
He may be a bit more expensive after a second good season in Holland, but no more than say £6M or £7M?
Finnbogason has played 21 times for Iceland and scored four goals, and he has scored 56 goals in 66 appearances for Heerenveen since he joined them from Helsingborgs IF in August of 2012.
Bafe Gomis – 28 year-old Lyon and France striker
Newcastle’s former top target, 28 year-old Lyon striker Bafe Gomis, is a free agent this summer, and since we were willing to pay £9M for him last summer, we have to think he’s still a target – given he’s a free agent now, although he’s one year older and maybe on the fringes as far as his age goes.
Bafe has had another good season at Lyon scoring 19 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Lyon, after failing to secure a move to Newcastle last August.
We think this player would be an excellent acquisition for the Magpies, and his fee is good, although with signing-on fees and agent fees, maybe he would still cost us around £2M in real money.
But we definitely need a number of strikers lined up for the summer, and Graham Carr should be very busy at the moment, we’re hoping for some early signings, as the target seems to be to bring in six or seven new players before September rolls around.
But with the way the season is collapsing around us at the moment, it may be that we may need to bring in even more new players, since a number of players we already have – just don’t seem to be good enough.
What do you think?

Comment #1Everton a fine example of what happens when you dont park the bus on a 1-0 lead while your playing well……You go on to steam roll the opposition.

I’m not suggesting they are challenging for titles what I’m saying is everton have sold 2 big players in 9 seasons. we on the other hand have sold 3 in 4 seasons
if Ashley were owner of everton their is no way they would be still holding baines.
what I am simply saying is everton remain a stable club because they keep hold of players.
Newcastle spurs and arsenal are 3 team who sell the best players each season.
everton would be challenging for 7th-10th if the were owned by Ashley not challenging for 4th
arsenal should be challenging for the title if teams just require quality managers

Comment #3What about Ross Mcormack? Cheap and could be a decent second striker to someone like Finnboggason, Gomis Remy etc

Comment #7blame pardew all you want but you need to remember a quality manager wants money to spend in transfer windows, he wants to be assured that he can keep hold of players and they are two things which this owner has proved will not be done two season in a row. If that’s not enough how about looking back at his appointments in the past. first it was wise then Joe kinnear thenlambias followed by JFK again. so face it pardew might not have what some of you toon fans want but as far as i’m concerned pardew is the best we can ask for until this owner is gone.

Pardew is still here. Kinnear was DoF.
Does not bother about motivation of players. No regular ins and outs. Transfers in bulk only when desperately needed.

Surely there are managers in Championship that will be eager to work here.
Many Continental managers work under a DOF.

What about mikeys reinvestments? Montpeliers captain, sissoko, debuchy etc? We had cabayes services. He wanted to go to psg. We made a big profit. We will buy in the summer.
What about the similar little group of everton fans protesting against the same things that Ciaran’s group is protesting about? I bet they’re not quite so vocal today with everton poised nicely for a champions league spot.
I see ciaran now wants to say that nufc is much bigger than everton. The trouble is success doesn’t come overnight. Not unless your chelsea or man city, and not necessarily for them.

I think tads is often quite reasonable and balanced in his comments, but people like Manx and Toonking make me despair, always making as many excuses for Pardew as he makes for himself, while at the same time they are constantly running the likes of Martinez down.
the positivity martinez brings is the polar opposite to pardew who tells the opposition we’ve lost before a ball is kicked

No one wants you to stop supporting NUFC. All of us on here do. We just want the best for the club and with Pardew and previously JFK we just aren’t getting that.
We’re getting unqualified, sub par people appointed by a little despot who will only be affected when he sees a couple of home match half empty stadiums. Boycotting 1/2 matches to make a point is surely not to much to ask. What are you missing any way?

How people can sit at SJP and watch that poor excuse for a football team with a joke for a manager is beyond me.
big question what’s the attraction in watching Newcastle play these days?

Why are you actually on here mate.Because its obvious your not a Nufc fan. You seem to have a massive problem from people still attending the matches as you have mentioned this quite a few times today.
24th may 09 we were relegated from the premiership……..one of the darkest days in Newcastle’s history yet fans still turned out in there thousands while in the championship.Your welcome to have your opinion mate but don’t shove it down other peoples throat just because they attend games

Wish I knew what to do but I dont.
Ashley hates us and us solely content to cause us as much grief as he can.
Hope something happens soon for the good of our club.
