With our strikers seemingly unable to do what they are paid to do – score goals – one of the major pieces of business that needs to be done this summer is to bring in a number of strikers – maybe as many as four – depending on whether Newcastle keep Papiss Cisse on board.
Papiss Cisse – could be retained
Loic Remy is the only striker who has done the business at Newcastle this season with 13 goals, although Yoan Gouffran has 7 goals, but he hasn’t scored for a number of months now.
Shola Ameobi’s contract is up and will not be renewed, Loic Remy is leaving Newcastle for a bigger club, and Luuk de Jong will not be offered a permanent deal on Tyneside, because he doesn’t look good enough – and he has five games to show that’s an inaccurate assessment of him.
So here are two potential strikers Newcastle could sign this summer – and in total they shouldn’t cost more than around £8M for the two of them.
Alfred Finnbogason – Heerenveen striker
We’ve been linked with this 25 year-old striker since last summer, when he was offered to Newcastle for £5M, after he had scored 28 goals in 35 appearances in his first season at Heerenveen in the Dutch League.
But we turned that offer down, but Alfred has kept scoring goals and this season, and he has 28 goals in just 31 appearances for his Dutch club, so he can certainly bang in the goals – well at least in the Dutch league.
He may be a bit more expensive after a second good season in Holland, but no more than say £6M or £7M?
Finnbogason has played 21 times for Iceland and scored four goals, and he has scored 56 goals in 66 appearances for Heerenveen since he joined them from Helsingborgs IF in August of 2012.
Bafe Gomis – 28 year-old Lyon and France striker
Newcastle’s former top target, 28 year-old Lyon striker Bafe Gomis, is a free agent this summer, and since we were willing to pay £9M for him last summer, we have to think he’s still a target – given he’s a free agent now, although he’s one year older and maybe on the fringes as far as his age goes.
Bafe has had another good season at Lyon scoring 19 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Lyon, after failing to secure a move to Newcastle last August.
We think this player would be an excellent acquisition for the Magpies, and his fee is good, although with signing-on fees and agent fees, maybe he would still cost us around £2M in real money.
But we definitely need a number of strikers lined up for the summer, and Graham Carr should be very busy at the moment, we’re hoping for some early signings, as the target seems to be to bring in six or seven new players before September rolls around.
But with the way the season is collapsing around us at the moment, it may be that we may need to bring in even more new players, since a number of players we already have – just don’t seem to be good enough.
What do you think?

Comment #81RE: Ashley’s supposed interest in Rangers.
There would be a conflict in interest from the word go. Rangers could win a cup, we could win or come runners up in a cup competition (don’t laugh) or a position in the league that could put us in the same European competion.
I really can’t see it being allowed. How could it be guarenteed that they’d never meet…..

Cabaye or no Cabaye, you can forgive a dip in form but not a complete capitulation, ffs lad were getting routed week in week out with no passion or fight, there is no excuse for that
No one could be as angry as they are if the team were losing but at least we’re trying and giving there all on the pitch
It’s the manner of the defeats, the pathetic gutless performances, that lies squarely at the feet of Pardew and Carver

Comment #86MA is to blame for the transfers and Pardew is to blame for our performance.
even when I watch the games you can tell the players are fed up with playing Pardew style, this will be the outcome for many players leaving in the summer.
Cabaye knows this but he won’t admit it due to the fact he loved the Newcastle fans.
I wouldn’t be surprise if Cabaye told the rest of his French mates on the phone to leave Newcastle

Comment #87Before Pardew arrived, since 1993, NUFC had lost 35 Premier League games by 3 goals or more. Pardew’s up to 19 on his OWN
And this from a guy that works on the defence 4 days a week.
Come on Pardew lovers, defend that .

that’s the thing though mate, they won’t come on here to stick up for Pardew, they don’t really have any valid grounds to support him

Comment #91Ive said this before, the squad should gather at one house after hours and work out their own tactics. Totally disregard anything that has been told to them by the staff. What could Pards and co actually do about that??

Comment #92If Mashly bought Rangers it would be fine until the two clubs were to qualify for Europe etc.
You cant own 2 clubs in the same competition.
So its obvious we wont ever reach any point were Rangers could meet us.
Imho if the guy buys Rangers and dont sell us i think he should be reffered to the The FA Owners’ and Directors’ Test Regulat
ions as it would mean he want wanting to compete in 2 difrent leagues.

I did and still do play football, if they have no faith in the CF you try to bring others in to the game and make something happen
You don’t just stop playing
I’ve stated further up the players have there fair share of blame, but a fair few of them are out the door already, Pardew fully deserves to follow if he can’t at least get some form of effort on the pitch

Comment #97Carroll “I was disappointed with the way it [his Liverpool career] went, but I don’t feel I was given a real go at it.”
Talking ahead of the game today. “I think they should be worried. I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait to try and get a result against them.”
There should be some interesting comments after the game, if it goes to a draw. I can’t see Liverpool winning this myself.

i dont think there are many pards lovers just people who dont see him as a satanic figure responsible solely for all the problems on the pitch as for the defending i would blame the coach carver or stone whichever one has that role

Pardew has seniority so HE TAKES THE BLAME .
If he isn’t responsible for defending yet keeps watching us get turned over every week what does that make him ? .

People have views and opinions and that’s why most come on here …for the craic.
I was doing just that with jazzyp and in no way were we trying to suggest we are any more passionate because we have season tickets.
I respect your opinion, your choice of words I do not.

Comment #107When Remy returns hopefully he plays wide left of a front three of Remy Cisse and Sissoko. Cisse has looked sharp and been unlucky I think, having been thwarted a number of times by great saves. Tiote and Anita as holding mids and Benny in the hole. Surely that’s our best formation.

Comment #117Now theres an interesting conundrum. How would Mike Ashley ensure that Newcastle and Rangers never enter the same competition.
Well, seeing as how that would require European qualification, I figure something like:
1) Continually sell the best and most valued members of the squad, carefully (Carelessly) ensuring that no replacement is brought in.
2) Employ a manager with minimal tactical or man management ability.
3) Continually avoid investment in the squad.
4) Do not attempt to get the supporters onside, thus ensuring apathy sets in, and ambition dies.
5) Annoy and infuriate your loyal fee paying customers.
That should just about do it.
Well on course, wouldn’t you say? TWO money making ventures, the greedy fat tw@t.
How much money is enough?

Comment #118At least 6 players. But we should be getting over 8 in an ideal world and settle them into the team slowly.
Also I would never sell HBA, only if he’s 30 years of age or over. We need more like him, not less!
Pardew is a fool for not knowing what to do with him. This season was a perfect opportunity to try him out in various positions or give him a run of games, yet he has done neither and is now the scapegoat of the team’s downfall, even though he’s hardly ever been at fault.
PARDEW OUT!!! I am starting to despise him.
