Newcastle Tracking Top Ghana International Striker

5:40 pm, Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 23 Comments

22 year-old Ghanaian striker Majeed Waris is the latest striker to be linked with Newcastle, and he is currently on loan at Valenciennes, who are struggling in the French League, but Waris is still having a very good season there.

Majeed Waris

Majeed Waris – 22 year-old Ghanaian striker

Majeed joined Spartak Moscow early last year from Swedish club BK Hacken, and he has been on loan at Valenciennes since the beginning of this year, and he has done very well with 9 goals in just 12 games for the struggling French side.

Valenciennes could still be relegated, and at the moment they are 3rd bottom of the league and still in the drop zone.

Majeed was called up to the Ghana national squad against Chile in February 2012, and made his debut in that game, and he currently has 9 caps for his country with 4 goals, and  was was born Tamale, Ghana.

The news is that Graham Carr and other Newcastle scouts have been monitoring the player, who had a very good record in Sweden for BK Hacken, and  played 63 times and scored 30 goals there before signing on at Spartak Moscow, where he has made 12 appearances with one goal.

He had a terrific season in 2012 in Sweden, and became the first Ghanaian to score five goals in a single game in Europe, as well as becoming the leading goalscorer in the Allsvenskan (Swedish League) with 12 goals in just 9 games.

Majeed was named the Swedish Premier League’s player of the year in 2012, and Ghana Football Association  President Kwesi Nyantakyi was quoted as saying:

“His achievements have brought honor to our country.”

Majeed stands just over 5’7″ in height so he’s not a tall striker, but he certainly seems to be able to score the goals.

And that’s what Newcastle need in the summer for next season, since we cannot seem to put the ball in the back of the net at the moment.

One other big club Everton, are also said to be tracking the striker.

Comments welcome.

jazzyp mate…it is just not fair that’s what it is ;) lol

Wolfs…here in DK clubs has stop sacking expensive managers – instead they are just degraded to youth team until they quite themself ;)

The current season isn’t officially over yet, I know it seems to be for the NUFC squad, and we are already being linked with nearly every player available.

It will be a long drawn out summer transfer window with more players going out than coming in. I don’t mind ridding ourselves of the likes of Gutti, Strolla and Obertan, but I expect them to be joined by Krul, Debuchy and perhaps Santon to name a few.

Remy will not want to come here on a permanent basis and frankly can you really see us attracting quality players to work under Pardew?

Imagine Demoting the likes of Mourinho or wenger to the Youth set up. I would have thought there lawyers over here would have a field day with the club for doing something of that magnitude

jazzyp…if their contract says nothing of the sort (and I don’t know of course), but I have seen it done else where :)

…compensation are big these days and sometimes a manager just don’t wanna leave because he is waiting on his compensation!

That sounds like a manager close to our hearts who you have just described there pal

    Online guy

lol mate, did you seriously expect anyone to not ask questions after a statement like that? The club, the fans and the city for that fact are in desperate need of some news, any news!

    You big tease! ;)

Another thing I have seen is the way contracts can be constructed. For instance instead of given a manager a normal contract employ him like you would employ a worker (just bigger wages of course) and if the employment doesn’t work…then you just say bye bye ;)

…I am trying to think out of the box here lol

Repost coz Ed’s sprung a new thread on us….

    Relax Online, just joshin’.

Jesperfuglsang, put Pardew in charge of the kids and he’d go for constructive dismissal!

But and more to the point, their parents would be banging on the gates of SJP just to get their hands around his neck!

Rotunda….. Troy Stavers, there’s a blast ftom the past. You’ll be suggesting Online’s really Stardust next. =D

And Vam Gaal’s said to be nailed on for Spurs…. Or is it us?

    Ye, ok

Thinking outside of the box, I wonder if Ciaran and his colleagues might offer Pardew a mystery tour on the Magic Bus?

Ciaran, can we delegate that project to you?

Oh, and Ciaran, please keep Jesper and the rest of the EMT informed.

  • 18 Average_Contents // Apr 9, 2014 at 6:10 PM

    Good! Thanks for listening ;)

Mr Average, sir, does that mean we can’t even ask Online trick questions?

Anyway Mr Average_contents, who’s the head honcho round here, the Admiral of the Fleet Jesper or you?

In the interest of discipline on the lower decks, we need to know.
