Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle United are one of the clubs interested in signing Crystal Palace defensive midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi.
Kagisho Dikgacoi – Crystal Palace midfielder
Dikgacoi was at Fulham for a couple of seasons from 2009, but he only played 16 times for the London club in those two seasons, and only once in his final season when Mark Hughes was the manager, before he joined Crystal Palace in 2011.
Kagisho Dikgacoi has been a good player for Palace over the last three seasons, and particularly this season when he has played 23 times for Palace.
But the player is 29, and if new Newcastle Managing Director Lee Charnley is correct, then Newcastle will not be signing any players over the age of about 26 this summer, and so the South African born player will hardly be a Newcastle target.
Other clubs said to be interested in the South African midfielder are Leicester, Hull City, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion, and are more likely to go after the player.
But new manager Tony Pulis could want to keep the 5′ 11″ midfielder at the London club – who are now 7 points above the drop zone with just 5 games to play.
Crystal Palace have had two great wins since they lost to Newcastle 1-0 almost three weeks ago – they won 1-0 at home to Chelsea and 3-0 last weekend at Cardiff City.
Dikgacoi made his debut for South Africa back in 2007, and has so far played 54 times for his country with two goals, and he has 110 total appearances for Palace with 8 goals. .
We’d be very surprised if Newcastle are interested in getting this player in over the summer – very surprised.
