Football Direct News is reporting that Newcastle are looking at AS Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere, and could make a move for the French striker in the summer.
Emmanuel Riviere – 24 year-old French striker
Riviere joined AS Monaco only fifteen months ago from Toulouse on a four-and-a-half-year contract, and for a fee reported to be around €4M, and since then he has had a decent record at the club – scoring 16 goals in his 44 appearances with 4 assists.
Riviere has played for all the French Youth sides and 15 times for the French U21 side with 6 goals, so he seems to be a decent player.
The news is that Monaco will be bringing in new players in the summer, as they plan for life back in the Champions League, and they will be willing to let their 24 year-old striker move on, and Newcastle are interested.
It seems that Riviere will cost around £10M, and of course Newcastle will need to bring in a number of strikers this summer with Loic Remy, Shola Ameobi and Luuk de Jong all leaving the club for different reasons.
The player was previously at St. Etienne (85 appearances, 19 goals and 14 assists) and Toulouse (47 appearances, 10 goals and 2 assists).
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Norcal…Sending off a couple of their players, giving us a penalty or two or heck, just give us a goal or two. I’m not too fussy 🙂
Ancient…In a perverse way, I quite like Gosling. At least he tries.

Comment #43Dummet can’t cross for the life of him.
Shane Ferguson showed much more promise and racked up a few quality assists when he had a similar chance. All too familiar how he has fallen by the wayside. Another one of our youngsters who will fade into obscurity.

Comment #46Ibiza- haha not asking for all that much is it? 🙂
At least we are looking OK, playing better than Stoke. And Dummett is finally showing some of his cliche determination.

Comment #50Norcal….Are we playing better than Stoke? I would say there is little to chose between the two.
Either way, no, it’s not asking too much and probably more likely to happen than us earning it. Still, we have the second half…

Comment #51I think it would be a mistake to let Gosling go myself, he has potential.
The logical thing to do at half time would be push Gouffran up front, and let Ben Arfa have a crack at that left flank. imo

Comment #58This isn’t as bad as the first 10 or so minutes suggested … but the thing we are really missing is people in the box. With a 4-4-2 you always have the winger on the oposite side of the play going into the box so there are always at least 3 in the box. Having wing-backs as our only wide players means they are always too far back to get into the box so there is never enough people in the box. Add to that the fact Shola seems content to only go as far as the edge of the penalty box we seem to only ever have Cisse in the box perhaps joined by Gosling.
That cross a minute ago from Anita was perfect, Cisse just missed it – where was Cisse? walking around behind where Anita was. Gosling has got in behind a few times and looked for a cut back and only Cisse has been anywhere near him.

Comment #73pathetic. absolutely pathetic. Pardew is a disgrace, seeing us being outplayed and outfought by stoke is horrible. None of our players seem to be able to take on opposition players. Lack of decision making, passing and vision is unbelievable. Lost count of the amount of times we’ve hoofed it when we had the chance to pass it to a player who had space.

But what a fitting goal to concede in such form.

Comment #80@Moses How is it Pardew’s fault that bar Gosling and Dummet no player has shown vision or the passion to take the game on?
