Since Yohan Cabaye left the club in January, Newcastle have looked like a team shorn of any creativity, so it’s really important that Newcastle bring in some creative players over the summer, although as Bobby Moncur mentioned in his column in the Chronicle yesterday, some of our targets will not want to come to Tyneside.
Siem de Jong – Newcastle interested
We have been interested in Siem de Jong for a couple of years now, and there’s continuing news in the press that Newcastle are moving in to sign the 25 year-old Ajax captain, who has one year left on his contract, and has already said he wants to leave Ajax in the summer.
Siem is Luuk’s older brother, and he can play in a number of different positions, and he can score some goals too, which is another thing we are finding very difficult these days, with no goals in our last four games.
Siem would cost around £7M, and we are just hoping that the news is correct and Newcastle will be able to bring Siem to Tyneside this summer, and sooner rather than later – to raise the spirits of Newcastle fans everywhere.
It’s an understatement to say that Newcastle fans are down in the dumps at the moment.
It even looks like we are back to square one, after a collapse in our form since the turn of the year – and it’s just good that we amassed 33 points in our first 18 games of the season – so we are not again fighting relegation – like Sunderland are for example.
We are hoping that Newcastle can bring in six or seven good players, and we’ve always thought that Siem de Jong would be a good signing for Newcastle for around £7M.
Luuk has played 230 times for Ajax with 74 goals, since making his debut for the Dutch powerhouse as an 18 year-old in 2007, and he is a very good technical player having come through the Ajax Academy.
