Newcastle Linked With Top Playmaker

8:52 am, Wednesday, April 16th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 21 Comments

Since Yohan Cabaye left the club in January, Newcastle have looked like a team shorn of any creativity, so it’s really important that Newcastle bring in some creative players over the summer, although as Bobby Moncur mentioned in his column in the Chronicle yesterday, some of our targets will not want to come to Tyneside.

siem de jong

Siem de Jong - Newcastle interested

We have been interested in Siem de Jong for a couple of years now, and there’s continuing news in the press that Newcastle are moving in to sign the 25 year-old Ajax captain, who has one year left on his contract, and has already said he wants to leave Ajax in the summer.

Siem is Luuk’s older brother, and he can play in a number of different positions, and he can score some goals too, which is another thing we are finding very difficult these days, with no goals in our last four games.

Siem would cost around £7M, and we are just hoping that the news is correct and Newcastle will be able to bring Siem to Tyneside this summer, and sooner rather than later –  to raise the spirits of Newcastle fans everywhere.

It’s an understatement to say that Newcastle fans are down in the dumps at the moment.

It even looks like we are back to square one, after a collapse in our form since the turn of the year – and it’s just good that we amassed 33 points in our first 18 games of the season – so we are not again fighting relegation – like Sunderland are for example.

We are hoping that Newcastle can bring in six or seven good players, and we’ve always thought that Siem de Jong would be a good signing for Newcastle for around £7M.

Luuk has played 230 times for Ajax with 74 goals, since making his debut for the Dutch powerhouse as an 18 year-old in 2007, and he is a very good technical player having come through the Ajax Academy.

Comments welcome.

Note: Craig Finnigan is a Newcastle fan and graduated from Newcastle College in 2011, and he has created a one-off key ring, and all the profits will go to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
You can view and buy the specially designed key ring here.

Thanks.

Is it premature to order a shirt with his name on the back?

    Might get:

    “Over The Line”
    ——–0———

Online-Sensationalism as ever,Krull leaving now as well I see.Is he leaving because of Benny as well ??.
Well Ed shall we give ourselves a pat on the back for finishing an amazing 10th in the Pl,Probably as this is wher most at the beginning of the season thought we would finish,Alot on here in the bottom half.
I don’t know why but when we finished last season’s flirtation with relegation I thought and still feel the squad was in better shape than it is now.I feel like we are being run into the ground and something I feel will give this summer one way or the other

Ibiza, that’s a great idea for a shirt. I might get one printed with a pardew excuse on the back?

Would be interesting to hear what sort of write up his brother has given us.Ldj has clearly mentioned many times of his desire to stay and thinks the ground and fans are fantastic.Lets hope he sells us to his brother in a positive light

Average…Waste? I don’t for a minute believe the club would waste my money, they’d have to spend some of it first ;)

G…That is a grand idea, but which excuse to pick? This could take a while.

Entirely pardew’s choice not play a playmaker with Benny only getting cameos in the wrong position and having more emphasis on him to defend more than create and Marveaux who had more assists than Cabaye last season, frozen out completely. Go figure

    RH

I think about Marveaux, it bugs him more than anything that he earns more than Pards.

jazzy…At least we can sing and smile whilst he bends us over!

G…How very current of you :)

Rotonda…I do still believe that Pardew would rather have Benny in the team. I think because of his natural talent / ability, Pardew expects more of him than others. On that basis I believe he has challenged Benny to better himself, become a more complete player, which for a multitude of reasons hasn’t / didn’t work.

However, given how poor things have been, I don’t really understand why he hasn’t stuck with him and given him a chance with a run of games, it’s not like it could have got much worse.
