For a good few months now we haven’t thought there’s much chance at all that Loic Remy will be joining Newcastle United this summer, and that’s especially true with the comments he has made in the French press this year, when he has said he wants to join a great club and one that plays in the Champions League, and there’s a number of top clubs said to be after him.
Loic Remy – after scoring stoppage time winner against Villa
And most pundits would agree that is not Newcastle – not these days anyway.
But don’t tell that to the Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, who has said he thinks there is even a good chance that Remy will join Newcastle this summer.
This is what the Newcastle manager has said about the situation:
“I’m on a pretty even keel about Remy’s future,” . “I think we have got a chance of keeping him and because I am a positive person, I would like to think it is a good chance.”
“I just think he has had a good year here. Sometimes, you can be a good fit at a club, and he is a good fit here. He fits in well, and performs that ‘number nine’ role. It wears well on him.”
We can get things wrong on this blog, as readers know, but it would be a real shock if Remy ends up signing for Newcastle.
It would also be terrific news.
And Loic can look to see what happened to other good players who have left Newcastle in the last 15 months for bigger clubs – Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye – and things haven’t exactly worked out for them at Chelsea and PSG respectively.
And most readers think we will not sign Remy in the summer, and in the poll we ran on that, 85% thought we wouldn’t sign him.
Wonder how Alan Pardew thinks we have a chance?
But it would take something like signing Loic Remy this summer to turn things around for the club, as we seem to be going nowhere under Mike Ashley.
Comments welcome.

You could argue that it hasn’t worked out form him the months he’s been there.
After getting to grips with the physique and pace of the PL, he should’ve had a few more shots by now don’t you think?
@Ed
That headline should have quotations. Or a “lol” at the end 😛

Comment #11another pearler headline from ED to get our knee jerk juices flowing.
Can’t believe Pardew said that…if he did it ranks very high on his top ten tremendously stupid statements list.
If you were offered 1,000,000 to 1 on Remy staying I would take the bet because in reality the chances are ten million to 1 so it’s a throw away short bet.
With nothing to play for and no chance of us going down, should we be hoping for another record breaking loss to add to his growing list of unwanted records in the hope of further weakening the managers position?

That’s an interesting statement.
Either way, I don’t think Pardew is making any definite statements, he’s just trying to remain positive about the situation… and he’s not going to keep him. He knows it, we know it, Remy knows it but he provides the media with a soundbite.

Comment #20More verbal diarrhoea from pardew, more chance of us getting Rooney to join us than Remy staying ffs Remy has seen from the inside and with his own eyes what a sham Nufc is. I’ve said it before pardew is a serial bullshitter I now only believe him when his lips are static.

So positive that I can put three Mackem defeats on the trot to the back of my mind knowing only too well there’s no chance of them doing it again next season !

Liar, liar pants (your chances of signing Remy)on fire.
Why even bother talking utter, utter bollox when your name could not be held in more contempt after the constant tripe rhetoric that inexplicably continues to come from Pardew’s mouth!
I have no doubt at all that we will sign at least 6 players this summer. None whatsoever.
We will though try and fail miserably with the majority of our main “targets” because Ashley is the worlds”s tightest billionare (bas***d) .
We will buy slightly above average, low cost, semi-dross with probably 1 token signing (duped, conned and probably gagged) to appease the fans/media /anybody else.
Remy will go where the money is because there isn’t another World Cup for 4 years to prove himself.
He’ll have the pick of the clubs and a cushy, 6 figure contract to retire at the ripe old age of 34.
Blah, blah …we could sign Remy…bu**shi*, bu**sh**.
Pardew can dream all he wants-the Cashley will throw his bucket of ice cold, “right player for the club bollox” straight over his head.
Would Ashley dare to let us dream? Not a chance;
For exactly the same reasons he continues to employ a snivelling, 1 dimensional, failure of a manager.
He likes making money and winding us up. Not a thing more.
Sad little **** (complete your own expletive)

Comment #26My incredulity about this is not that I think Remy is so hell-bent on joining a Champions League club but because I am absolutely certain Monster Mash will not entertain the sort of salary necessary to persuade the mercenary Loic to stay on Tyneside.
