Demba Ba Unlikely To Be Returning To Newcastle

6:32 pm, Monday, April 21st, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 36 Comments

We just hate to put cold water on a story that Newcastle will go after Demba Ba in the summer, when he becomes a free agent, and make no mistake about it, he would be a fantastic signing for us – and we need somebody like Demba back on Tyneside, since it’s almost certain that Loic Remy will leave the club this summer.

demba ba a wave

Demba Ba – while at Newcastle

But Demba Ba will not be available as a free agent this summer, since he signed a three and a half year deal fifteen months ago at Chelsea – so his contract will still have two years to run in June.

The Daily Mail is reporting the Magpies will offer the 28 year old a contract in the summer, and if that’s true we would expect the contract to be a lucrative one for Ba – who scored a goal in every two appearances for the 18 months he was on Tyneside –  29 goals in just 58 appearances.

And Demba Ba will in all likelihood want Champions League football when he leaves Chelsea in the summer, and he’s already said he’d love to join his home town club PSG in the summer.

And Ba is likely to cost around £7M this summer – and in any case he turns 29 next month – too old for a Mike Ashley run Newcastle United.

Turkish club Trabzonspor almost agreed a deal to sign Demba Ba in January for £7M – – but Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho stopped the transfer from happening, but it’s unclear if Ba was willing to move to Turkey.

We’d just love for Newcastle to sign Demba Ba and also Loic Remy – but it would take Newcastle paying out big wages for the both of them, probably over £70K/week to each of them – to entice them to Newcastle, and Mike Ashley is not going to do that.

Unfortunately it’s just not going to happen.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

once arsene wenger leaves arsenal that is the last of them as now long term management is a thing of the past. 1 season will be a great achievement really.

Ba isn’t a free agent! He signed a 3 and a half year contract. Please please do the research if you’re going to write the article.

Never say poo-poo sparky. Stand ready to defend your club! And remember:
    “At my signal unleash Hell!”

I would love Wenger, just imagine it. Now that Moyes is on the way out I’m getting increasingly frustrated that we still have a complete moron as our manager.

Pardew being here makes me cry!

If sparky turns out to be correct about Ashley & rangers & Pardew well we are doomed like MH370 Without a trace.

Are you serious with those players?

  • 17 croftus5678 // Apr 21, 2014 at 6:49 PM

i’s love ba back but unfortunatly its just as likely as us keeping remy or signing rvp ! its just not going to happen for sooooo many reasons.

best we stick to the little known about strikers (personally i dont care who as we always seem to sign quality) as long as we make many signings i’ll be happy and not loan signings either.

How much are you going to spend in the summer NoNuts? Are you going to release what you made from Cabaye? What about a small part of the TV money? Will we lowball clubs again and then say we couldn’t get them across the line? Will the helicopter remain unused? Your club’s safety in the Prem is at stake NoNuts.

Ba? Free agent? Don’t think so

  • 20 GeordieTwo // Apr 21, 2014 at 6:52 PM

Yes Rotonda mate! Oh yes! The honey badger will show Mike no mercy. Bits of shredded scrotum everywhere. Mike hiding in his bedroom closet weeping like a wee girl. Beautiful.

    If only 🙁 .

Nutticus shrivelous is your curse Mike. The supporters have spoken. May your new girlfriend giggle at the mere sight of your wedding tackle.

  • 23 sparky55 // Apr 21, 2014 at 6:55 PM

Ashley won’t sack him because he’ll not want to reward him for failure via the 8 year deal.

The 8 year deal is designed for when Ashley sells the club so the new owner pays up the contract and Ashley gets paid back what Pardew owes him from the gambling debts.

I p!issed mesel laffin when Pardew said he doesn’t gamble and only goes to casinos when he meets with Ashley and Lambias because that’s where they choose to meet when the truth is he met Ashley and Lambias in Lambias’ casino and once Lambias told Ashley how much debt he was in, Ashley made his move.

Prepare for a bunch of links with players we have no hope of signing. All a scam to get people to renew their season tickets, i.e. Pardew talking about Remy staying permanently.

Just got back from skeg vegas, and had no internet service , and have seen no highlights of our latest defeat. So who’s gonna be kind enough to fill me in with the depressing details of the latest loss???
    Demba ba….. Jb’s favourite subject????

    GEORDIE 2 @ 10

Is this where I come back and say “hussar!” 🙂

No need for sarcasm. I thought it was a perfectly valid question. SJP has proved a very profitable vehicle for sports direct.

Ashley has launched Sports Direct massively in France, hence so many French players. Surely the same blueprint would work handsomely for him in Asia even if Sports Europe ”piggybacks” on Sports Direct or vice verca?

First transfer is a new manager! we need a style and system so that when players get injured or lose form the replacements drop in and we don’t have all the utter bullshit with ridiculous tactics and terrible excuses.

  • 30 GeordieTwo // Apr 21, 2014 at 7:00 PM

We were glorious in defeat jazzyp mate! Huzzah! Shola scored. There was great rejoicing. The supporters went mad! Our first goal in a month! Glory be! Glory be! Oh yes, and we lost 1-2 in extra time to a penalty.

  • 31 GeordieTwo // Apr 21, 2014 at 7:02 PM

Aaarrghh sparky! Verily I say yeah mate! We will overcome!

  • 32 sparky55 // Apr 21, 2014 at 7:04 PM

“may your next shit be a hedgehog coming out backwards” is my all time favourite…that’s gotta hurt!

  • 33 GeordieTwo // Apr 21, 2014 at 7:08 PM

Geremi you speak wisely @29! With his tremendous track record who will Mike go after? Could we be sizing up Mr. Bean possibly? At least then we might have some fun while losing.

We are moving forward with the development of the club. Last season 16th. This season the dizzying heights of 9th (so far)! And look at how we are carefully placed for next season. No strikers to speak of once Remi leaves. Colo fed up and wanting away. Benny fed up and wanting away. Obertan fed up and wanting away (some good news at last). Marv fed up and wanting away. Debuchy fed up and wanting away. Santon’s confidence destroyed. Mbiwa’s confidence destroyed. The signs are all there for a devastating new season. 👿

Its all a question of morale !
We have none ! SJP is like the Moon at the moment no atmosphere ! So how do we encourage a team with no heart , difficult, maybe we need to anglicise our team and send the gauls back to the continent , and then all we need is a coach who can ….. coach !
