Newcastle Fans Want Moyes As Manager

6:36 pm, Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 180 Comments

With over 2,000 votes in 73% of fans want to see David Moyes as the next manager at Newcastle United.

David Moyes Manchester United

David Moyes – fired Manchester United manager

David’s stock has fallen since he’s been at Manchester United, but he was simply great at Everton and had the Goodison Park in the top six a total of six times, and he had less money to spend than he will get at Newcastle – if he does become the next Newcastle United manager.

Moyes is used to operating on a tight budget – but it wouldn’t seem too bad at Newcastle, at least not compared to the money he was given at Everton.

And Newcastle fans are keen, make that very keen – let’s make that desperate – to get the club back into the top six.

That would be a good start.

We would assume a number of clubs – like Norwich City as just one example – would be keen to get David on board for next season – so any club who want David Moyes will presumably have to move fast.

And of course we have no idea if Mike Ashley has any interest in signing Moyes – because we haven’t a clue what Mike thinks at any time.

We just don’t hear anything at all from Mike Ashley – so we are always in the dark – so to speak.

Comments welcome.

i always thought this blog had lots of mackems.

going off most posts this manager would not be accepted.

  • 2 theartfuldodger // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:39 PM

    Oh dear…

  • 3 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:42 PM

The man has never won anything he’s Pardews Scottish cousin. Since the 25th of December Newcastle United have failed to score any goals in 71% of their matches.

  • 4 archaeomag // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:42 PM

    ED –
This is very tasteless and some people might eating their dinner. .. .

  • 5 toonking // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:43 PM

so who will it be at club september 1st.
    moyes pulis pardew or JFK.

  • 6 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:44 PM

Lol i want Guardiola next but it ain’t gonna happen!!!

Small issue of Ashley’s yes man still being at the helm

  • 7 estechco // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:46 PM

I think “Fans don’t want Pardew as Manager” might have been a more accurate heading, Ed?

  • 8 Thump // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:47 PM

I’d have him based purely on the fact that he isn’t Pardew but there again, I’d take Robben based purely on the fact that he isn’t Obertan so what do I know?

  • 9 theartfuldodger // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:48 PM

    Can anyone answer this :

If we(Ashley) aim to be a top 10 side(only) regularly, then why dont we plug gaps with half decent players..
    strikers-Shane Long

Something like that..Why do we wait window after window for better players when we have no god damn ambition.
Why do you want a Debuchy or a Sissoko or a MYM..
Why not a Sinclair,Long,Redmond,Mariappa..Assemble such decent players and 1 or 2 good ones and you have a top 10 squad that is not overly ambitious..
Add a few characters like nolan barton and they wudnt get demotivated either…

Why doesent Ashley use that plan..Simple..Quick..No ambition..
Is Sell On Value the only reason ?? Or wages ?? The current plan seems to have gone astray with too much waiting and departing players lining up..

  • 10 Graeme // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:48 PM

There is only one small flaw in this article – we already have a Manager.

The owner seems very happy with him, he is delivering exactly what the owner has set out, there are absolutely NO indications that Pardew is about to resign or retire!!

We are stuck with this level of performance for at least the next season, then probably the one after as well, but in the Championship!!

  • 11 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:50 PM

Shane long isn’t any good his goal record is abysmal.

  • 12 toonking // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:52 PM

well i’d love rodgers to come and maybe see how good this team really is, then again i predict them saying he wasn’t backed if his season goes like this.
the sooner fatty goes the better

  • 13 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Apr 22, 2014 at 6:58 PM

Cheer up Graeme…Parsnip just need to keep loosing big and we might have a chance of a new manager 😉

…just keep thinking happy thoughts…and then you can fly (oh wait that’s from Peter Pan isn’t it lol)

  • 14 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:02 PM

The moyes 74% must be manure fans votes.

  • 15 The next Mike Williamson // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:04 PM

Moyes is the type of manager Pardew tries to be. It’s all about packing the midfield and having 11 hard-working players. No room for flair.

  • 16 Himanshu Dhingra // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:08 PM

I will take Moyes only because he is not Pardew.

However, Moyes struggled to beat big teams at Everton, and guess what same at ManU

  • 17 Thump // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:08 PM

It’s all nonsense anyway. Why go for Moyes – who has just cashed in his contract payments, when we could go for Di Matteo.

On that note, it would never happen. Didn’t he say last month that he would need to “feel the ambition”?

  • 18 theartfuldodger // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:09 PM

    I meant such players..
For top 10 palace have jerome and gayle and chamakh..
    Stoke have crouch and walters..

If all Ashley wants is top 10 such players..i mean little better like hooper will do…get them in, fill the gaps and job done.

Instead he holds out for debuchy sissoko mym cabella aubameyang etc..
Why does an ambitionless side need to take that risk.
Look at what such risks have got him into now..

  • 19 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:11 PM

There’s zero ambition we’ve had Demba Ba and now Remy but they never want to stay, ask yourself why?

  • 20 jimiley // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:15 PM

Manure gave Moyes a six year contract and got rid after 9 months because he is crap. We have a worse manager and he is still here after 4 years. A wee club in the north east with no ambition.

  • 21 Thump // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:15 PM

Yep, there we go. To pre-emptively quell any rumours:

“It doesn’t matter what country but I need to be challenged by it. I need to feel the ambition of the club.”

  • 22 JamesToon // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:15 PM

Why moyes? He’s hardly an upgrade to pardew, horrible football.

  • 23 scout // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:16 PM

Cant blame Ashley for not talking to the fans that incident involving the blokes daughter was bang out of order.
The more I think about it the more I believe Pardews job is safe, regardless of recent results we are safe and that must be the target for a team not signing 1 player on a perm
I think we will sign maybe 6 players of quality with 6 poor ones departing

  • 24 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:18 PM

Leighton baines even said the football is far superior under martinez than under the defensive moyes.

  • 25 Thump // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:19 PM

@mag: If you remember, Ba wanted to leave because “[he] was in a club, looked around and noticed all of the scantily clad ladies” and “realised that it offended his Muslim faith” – paraphrasing, of course.

Because, as we all know, London is definitely not full of sex clubs and Chelsea is definitely not 10 minutes away from Soho.

  • 26 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:22 PM

Thump the only thing that offended Ba was Pardews tactics and lack of ambition.

  • 27 scout // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:22 PM

Remember when we finished 5th, basically Everton now. See what happens next season before you lot polish martinez’ shoes ffs
Well be alright with a few signings you cant turnthis bad in a few month

  • 28 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:24 PM

Wasn’t there something strange with Di Matteo as in he’s still technically employed by Chelsea until 2015?

  • 29 scout // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:24 PM

Must have been settled up with his roubles by now

  • 30 Black and White with an army lol // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:25 PM

first Pulis now Moyes WOW some fickle fans on here, haven’t you’s learnt not to read too much into things like this?

I bet Fat Sam will be next or maybe Di Matteo or Sherwood or Poyet.

this is just as bad as all the players we have been linked with

  • 31 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:25 PM

Scout we were almost relegated last season, so its a bit longer than a few months.

  • 32 scout // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:26 PM

Id rather stick with Pardew than Moyes, whats the point in getting him in?

  • 33 Thump // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:27 PM

The difference between Moyes and Pardew is minimal, at best. I personally would take Moyes but that’s because I do think he has the makings of a good manager. The difference between Moyes brand of football and Fergie’s brand is minimal. Fergie wanted to retain possession, and pass forward. You actually saw him getting annoyed at sideways or backwards passes. Moyes, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to know how to instruct his team to go forward once they have safe possession.

Either way, looking at Man U this season and us in the second half of this season, there’s panic on the players faces. They don’t actually know what to do with themselves when they’re on the ball and that all comes down to poor coaching.

I actually remember somebody on here posting a load of comments from an Everton blog to prove a point that the complaints a lot of the Evertonians had about Moyes in his early career on Merseyside were the same problems we all had with Pardew and this all culminated in the poster saying “and look at the football Moyes has Everton playing now.” He wasn’t cut out for Man U and I do think it’s a shame that he’s got the sack because, given another season, you’d have seen the Man U we all know and hate.

@scout: Cant blame Ashley for not talking to the fans that incident involving the blokes daughter was bang out of order.

I can’t remember that. Any chance of refreshing my memory?

  • 34 Thump // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:29 PM

@toonarmydownsouth: I remember something about that a while back but can’t for the life of me find anything about it. Either way, good bit of business for him. I’d love it if my old work was still paying me a wage for sitting on my backside!

  • 35 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:31 PM

Moyes is 50 and his highest finish in the premier league is 3rd and he’s never won anything, so keep him away from here.

  • 36 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:32 PM

I think we need a manager who isn’t PL establish look at Southampton’s manager, he’s done wonders for them and I don’t think anyone knew him before he went there

  • 38 scout // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:32 PM

Something happened at the match involving his daughter if I recall it correctly, threatened or verbally abused or something, if correct seriously bad imo

  • 39 Shola Pure Legend // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:33 PM

Not me like Moyes is a very average manager in my opinion he has achieved nothing in the game. The same as our current less than average manager Mr Pardew the sad Cockney prat.

  • 40 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:34 PM

Moyes avoids cup games like Pardew.

  • 41 Bambams // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:34 PM

  • 42 scout // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:36 PM

It wasnt a game of swing ball it was 38 premiership games

  • 43 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:38 PM

Scout he was lucky get used to it.

  • 44 Thump // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:39 PM

@scout: Don’t think I heard that one. I remember Ashley getting death threats and saying that he didn’t feel safe taking his family to the games (I think that was in his open letter to Newcastle fans when we went down).

@Shola and mag: Absolute bollocks! Didn’t you know that the FA Cup is “Pardew’s competition”? And he won the Johnston’s Paint Trophy, don’t you know! He doesn’t shy away from them he just doesn’t feel like winning anything this year… or next year… or the year after that… yeah, you can see where this is going.

  • 48 Thump // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:42 PM

@scout: So why haven’t we came close to a 5th finish since? Lest we forget that the last performance of that season was a 3-1 defeat to Everton that we didn’t turn up for (I think even our goal was an OG ffs)

  • 49 mag // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:42 PM

can’t really say that when Everton has been in the same predicament than us and look where they are!

@scout we were lucky when we came 5th even to this day Pardew is still using the same style like he did when we came 5th, just like the season we came 5th we were scrapping wins like we have for the last 2 seasons and it won’t improve.

  • 51 Shola Pure Legend // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:43 PM

Lol oh yeah Ashley’s open letter!
Seem to remember the police very hastily releasing a statement along the lines of we have never under any circumstance received any complaint or allegation from Mr Ashley or family, if they have receive such threats they should come forward and report it due to the severity of the allegations

In normal speak: stop talking sh1te Ashley ya big puddin!

  • 57 anthc // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:46 PM

No thanks. Moyes another dinosaur with old training methods according to reports from the players. Footballs evolving all the time but the big thing is money. No ucl less money, no europa less money etc. Big teams need ucl and moyes couldn’t deliver. Rather give a european up and comer a spell.

  • 58 Black and White with an army lol // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:48 PM

Martinez also won the cup with Wigan and if you haven’t notice we have a far more better players than them, Everton also is a improvement to Wigan and look where he’s got them.

also major clubs like Real Madrid are keeping an look out for him, so they also must see something in him.

  • 59 scout // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:49 PM

Steady the buffs ladies, dont get out your pram. After much thought I believe Pardews job is safe
It was a superb season 5th and people say it was lucky??? Come on lads, be fair.
poor recently but 5th was great

  • 60 Mister Tuff // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:49 PM

It is still shocking to see Toon fans still supporting Percy and his fifth finish. Bit like the three wise monkeys covering their eyes and ears – thus hearing and seeing nothing bad.
These complete mugs need to change their game because they obviously know nowt about football.
So to all the dorks, drongos and dickheads please do us all a favour and change your game -could I suggest netball or ladies wrestling.

  • 61 Thump // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:50 PM

@scout: That’s the same at every single club, certainly not exclusive to Newcastle. If you don’t want to go on a bus then I suggest arranging your own travel.

@toonarmydownsouth: Bloody hell, I forgot about that! Reckon that’s why he hasn’t done it since? Got called out on his bollocks?

  • 62 GeordieTwo // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:51 PM

It’s sad to watch the rot in the club. It looks like desperation with Armstrong which is not the way to go with a young lad. He should get 30 minutes against Cardiff at home. But we can’t suddenly expect the team to perform well with Pardew. If we get a point against Cardiff that might be it for this season, so 47 points. How many points did we have at the start of 2014? We had 34 I believe! So 12 points from 16 games! Are we that bad as a side that we can only get 12 points from 16 games? The answer is yes with the management and ownership we have. Any other owner would be livid at this point. Ashley? He could care less as we can’t get relegated.

  • 63 scout // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:52 PM

  • 64 Rotonda heights // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:53 PM

If i had a pound for every time I’ve written this. How long are you going to dine out the guy’s one and only top 6th finish in nearly 20 years management!

Raylor got injured, Ben Arfa finally got a game. Forced to play 433 and away we went for 6 games with Ba, Cisse and Ben Arfa scoring unbelievable individual goals! Plus we got a lot of decisions that season.

Of course the last 2 seasons Pardew didn’t really get found out all did he !! You’ve bought Pardew’s spin and of course it’s every one else’s fault.

Someone else made him split up the Willo/MYM partnership or make Gouffran a defensive left mid or MYM a right back or on the bench.

Somebody else made Pardew drop any technical play makers with flair. Most of all when his players ”weren’t too hyped up (lol”) Pardew could have stopped Swansea scoring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    If that doesn’t send alarm bells ringing . . . . . . . . .

  • 65 Black and White with an army lol // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:54 PM

yeah it was great to be 5th because this is where we should be every season but again I always look at performance not results and we were poor that season, even when we came 5th the world was set alight on Pardew but I think I was the only one who wanted Pardew out because I knew his style wouldn’t get us nowhere.

when we came 16th I knew my predictions were right and I also won a £350 bet on stating that Newcastle would finish below 15th.

this season I put a bet on stating we will finish above 12th since MA got the French lads in so there’s £50 for me.

also next season I have got a bet on for us to get relegated because I know it’s going to happen.

  • 66 scout // Apr 22, 2014 at 7:56 PM

Funny how when I mention the 5th place finish everyone gets bent out of shape.
Look what we have spent in the last 5 year. Our position is cracking. I dont agree with it, but if your honest spending no money and being in our position is good

  • 71 Rotonda heights // Apr 22, 2014 at 8:03 PM

Can only conclude some people prefer watching negative, defensive, containing hoof ball with a very limited, self delusional 80’s style English manager, rather than a modern progressive, forward thinking technical euro coach with a Plan A, B and C and 21st century tactics !

Martinez had all his good players sold off at Wigan like Moses, Palacios, Valencia, Rodallega etc and had to play people like Caldwell and even in the relegation year they still played football and won the cup!! Wigan fans still love him.

If by some miracle we got a decent manager to come to us how long would it take for NoNuts to destroy him? I’m thinking about 3 months. Three months of lies, back stabbing, and complete bollocks from Mike would do it for anyone I would think.

I just feel Ash banks the cash from sales unless we look like relegation then spends.
I dont want to go into a Leeds or QPR situation but just a little ambition by the chairman like Kenwright at Everton (sure thats his name…)

  • 79 Black and White with an army lol // Apr 22, 2014 at 8:10 PM

I think there’s a 99% risk that you will lose that bet mate, our top players will be gone in the summer Krull, HBA, Debuchy, Colo, Sissoko, MYM, Santon, Tiote, Gouffran.

and less than average players, Marv, Jonas, Obertan, S/R Taylor, Cisse.

leaving us with, Elliote, Haidara, Dummet, Willo, Anita the rest of the reserves.

Remy I’m sure 100% will not stay, and LDJ shouldn’t be signed.

so with this mate I let you work out the statistics for the summer and also work out who the hell would want to come to Newcastle that is first team quality.

  • 80 tequilamag // Apr 22, 2014 at 8:11 PM

RH, For me the biggest factor on the Pardew debate is not so much what has happened in the past but what could happen going forward. It`s pretty much impossible for Pardew to win the crowd back once they have turned.
As the squad needs a lot of new players you may as well get a new man in to oversee that. I still think a lot of the bile directed to the man is pretty harsh.

Does anybody think a good manager (I mean somebody with a real track record recently) would last more than 3 months with NoNuts? I dread to think what it would be like for somebody with guts and desire to come in now. Moyes is second hand goods from Manchester’s reserve team and brings nothing to the table that Newcastle needs. Match the following descriptions to Moyes or others and then determine if they are right for the job. Choose from A or B
A= Dynamic – inspirational – tactically knowledgeable – player respect – European perspective – passion
B= Listless – dour – tactically predictable – lost player respect- British traditional view – dull

Be careful what we wish for !

  • 117 aussiegeordie83 // Apr 22, 2014 at 9:02 PM

I have no problem with Pardew. I would like us to stick with him despite the head butting saga. Ashley needs to provide him with a quality squad in which can cover numerous injuries when it occurs. Our squad is poor. Having said that I would have Moyes if they did sack Pardew but dont think this needs to happen.

Really………….well truth be told 73% would take Alan Titchmarsh as manager if it meant getting shot of Pardew

  • 134 Transfer Sage // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:07 PM

Moyes can organise a defence better than Pardew but not really inspiring going forward at all.

Martinez, a manager relegated last year, has done much better with everton than moyes has done. Granted he has lukaku but they still played well when he was out for a couple months.

  • 139 Transfer Sage // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:09 PM

This argument a different manager would do no better than Pardew is nonsense.

Look at crystal palace, 4 points under Holloway, now they have 40+ with Pulis in charge.

This man utd won the league last year by 10 or so points, they are 7th this year.

A good manager makes a huge difference even with the same players. Not saying Ashley would get a good manager, he hires old fashioned, past it managers, but if he got it right we could be a lot better off even with the same team.

  • 140 Transfer Sage // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:11 PM

With the current set up I don’t think we could attract a proven, high level manager. What we need to do is look around europe, to find a manager who seems capable of playing a good style of football, interview him properly so people can see if he does know his stuff then hire him.

None of this getting bobby average in just because he has had one good year in the last 20.

  • 141 JackButler // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:13 PM

    Transfer Sage

I’ve been saying all day whereas we don’t have a world beating squad, we do have a squad that is far far better than what Pardew can get.

The players look demotivated and lost and I’d be amazed if he hadn’t completely lost the dressing room with his tactics and style of play.

The only players with flair cannot get anywhere near the starting 11 while plundering work horses are always on the team sheet.

A better manager would give us a better Newcastle………it really is that simple

  • 142 Toon Tang // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:13 PM

Don’t know about all this Moyes bollocks I tell thee.

  • 143 Dannyo // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:13 PM

Lates in the grapevine is that Moyes is looking to take a wee break from football, before getting back into the managerial business.

  • 144 Transfer Sage // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:14 PM

I understand the criticism of ben arfa and marvoux to a point, but it’s not like the ‘hard working’ players actually do that much more, we still ship a boat load of goals and offer nothing going forward.

We might as well lost 5-2 instead of 3-0, at least it would be more fun to watch.

  • 145 Transfer Sage // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:18 PM

On monday night football Carragher and Neville were taking about man utd’s problems and they said they have done ok keeping possession but they have no runners off the ball and in behind, therefore the possession is pointless as there is no penetration in behind and it allows teams to press up and get at them.

It sounds so much like us, it’s just terrible to watch. I could get a team to sit deep and pass the ball, a good manager will be able to get them doing that in dangerous areas and find ways to stop the opposition.

  • 146 Big Pappa Cissé // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:19 PM

There are plenty managers that would relish working with players like : Sissoko,Debuchy,Tiote,Krul & HBA . And having great training facilities, massive fan base and a brilliant stadium .

The only catch is the fat controller .

  • 147 JackButler // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:21 PM

I don’t think Pardew is capable of handling any type of maverick player as his entire approach to the game seems to be stuck in the mid 80’s.

Tactically he’s shown up more often than not while his team selections and persistence with players that are simply not doing anything is sickening to watch. The reason the fans love HBA so much is because he’s the only guy in the quad that is willing to take the ball and actually run at the oposition and try to make something happen and that simply doesn’t fit into Pardew’s “Let’s defend and wait and see” attitude. It wouldn’t be as bad of we were actually any bloody good defensively but we are a shambles.

  • 148 Transfer Sage // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:27 PM

that’s the problem, it seems like pardew thinks playing more defensive players will take care of the defense, there doesn’t seem to be much shape.

I know people, me included, slate santon and others at times but he was a play mourinho used and rated, mourinho won’t play w winger who can position well defensively never mind a fullback.

It makes me wonder what they do in training to never get these issues corrected. Basic shape shouldn’t be hard to instill into a team.

  • 149 JackButler // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:32 PM

The problem seems to run from Pardew to the coaches as we are seeing the same problems today as we were two years ago, it’s either they don’t see it or are incapable of correcting it.

I’ve said many, many times before that not one player, with the possible exception of Perch, has progressed under Pardew while the rest have either gone backwards or have stagnated.

We all know that Ashley is the true cause of all that is wrong at the club but finding someone with £300 million spare to buy him out is highly unlikely whereas forcing Pardew out is a possibility and thats what we need to be focusing on

  • 150 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:33 PM

Not sure what was worse tonight
The game or the fact it was on ITV which means suffering Andy ‘unbelievable biased bollox’ Townsend and Adrian potato heed Chiles

  • 151 Transfer Sage // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:35 PM

Exactly…replacing ashley would be ideal, but long term, might as well deal with the short term whilst we wait for change at the top.

I guess it’s pointless talking about these things as there seems to be no plan to change as pardew is hitting his targets, seems to be the perfect fit for ashley.

  • 152 JackButler // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:38 PM

The only hope we have is that Ashley will follow what has happened at Man Utd as Moyes was sacked simply because it would cost them too much money in the long run. Season tickets, corporate boxes, sponsorship deals all have to be sold and people don’t want to pay if it means watching poor football.

If the season ticket renewals have fallen by the reported 14,000 then Ashley may well act

  • 153 Toon Tang // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:39 PM

tads, I dont mind Townsend but aye Chiles is a pure unadulterated cnut like.

  • 154 Transfer Sage // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:42 PM

True, that may happen. Although it annoyed me them spent ages talking how the man utd share price rose….it’s even worse than our muppets bleating on about the accounts.

Making a football decisions to keep share prices up is pathetic, right decision but made for the wrong reasons.

  • 155 JackButler // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:46 PM

The claim that if Utd fail to mate the CL next season it would have cost them a minimum of £100 million in revenue, and that would be for simply making it into the comp not even winning it and Mikey Quinn tweeted earlier that he had been told that Moyes pay off was only 5 million as he failed to make the top four.

For years Utd slaughtered all the clubs that where sacking managers but as soon as things got tough for them they fell in line with everyone else in the game 😀

  • 156 Wandering Geordie // Apr 22, 2014 at 11:01 PM

In my Opinion Moyse is a non starter. At Everton He didnt exactly make them a good team in his time there. When Martinez took over He transformed them into a highly effective team playing great football .

If he came here then he would be under immense pressure to achievew, hich he has shown he can’t handle.

So for me Moyes should not be mentioned.

If and when the Glazier goes then my choice Marcelo Bielsa.A master tactician and motivator of players

  • 165 jimmysmith // Apr 22, 2014 at 11:55 PM

The suggestion is that the new Man U manager will be given 200 million to rebuild a side that are still reigning champions. This on top of the north of 70 million Moyes spent.

Gives you some idea of just how far off the pace we have fallen under Ashley, who even now doesn’t seem to understand the very club he owns. Far from challenging, he seems he’ll bent on ensuring we never do again.

  • 168 manxpie // Apr 23, 2014 at 1:24 AM

a new manager want’s his team behind him!

our great owner only promotes from within!

so therefore no new manager of any clout ffs!

charnley gets the director job he was a club secretary!

pardew got 1!! coach in carver

beardsley got promoted and moved all over the place!

    so anyone thinking that
1.. a new manager will come in
    2..he’ll be any good
    3.. he’ll get his demands
4..get any kind of tranfer kitty

is massively massively deluded and rotonda seems to take the biscuit on this 1 lol

and btw that list can go on for a hell of a lot more under ashley but you all seem to think it will change!!

plus from an earlier post moyes had fusk all to spend in pretty much his whole tenure

martinez instantly got mega bucks plus got the loans in that was already a very good and drilled top 6 team!

lets see how martinez does next season before you make a proper judgement

plus hasn’t rodgers been very very lucky 2 on form world class strikers
    amazing ammount of penalties
lucky with a few youngsters coming through

but most of all! all the other top teams under performing massively :)

  • 169 Sydney Toon // Apr 23, 2014 at 2:15 AM

Moyes was going to be handed around 100m, a large kitty that would have rebuilt the squad.
He has never had that kind of spending power. Lets look at some of his purchase history at Everton:

Fellaini , Tim Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Stephen Pienaar, Joleon Lescott, Tim Howard, Phil Neville, Yakubu and Leighton Baines to name a few.

All of these players, with exception to Fellaini, were will within the 10m mark. Each player represented an important cog of that Everton side and some still are now.

Not to mention the youth players he brought through that Everton System.. Rooney, Rodwell, Coleman to name a few.

The difference with Newcastle is this, there is financial stability at the club. He may have constraints but it seems he works best when given those constraints.

  • 170 Sydney Toon // Apr 23, 2014 at 2:18 AM

Martinez got a large kitty because of the sale of Fellaini to Moyes’s United. The other players were generally on loans where the parent clubs paid 50% of their wage, Gareth Barry is the clear example.
Martinez has taken a workmanlike side and turned them into an aggressive attacking side. He has done more than enough to warrant the praise he is receiving.

  • 171 BandB // Apr 23, 2014 at 3:38 AM

I ask how are we, in any meaningful sense, still a football club?
How the team is managed and trained seems to be irrelevant to the owner.
The standards set seem to be irrelevant to the owner.
Who is in the team, the football it plays, and whether players are replaced, all seem to be irrelevant to the owner.
Whether we compete for titles and cups seems to be an irrelevance to the owner.
Whether we win or lose, score a single point or even a single goal seems to be an irrelevance to the owner.
Apart from as a figment of the fans imagination, how are we still a football club?

  • 172 jimmysmith // Apr 23, 2014 at 5:00 AM

I don’t think 100 million is gonna cut it at Man U ST. They appear to need a whole back line, a couple of central mids and atleast one winger, all of Champions league quality. This without champions league football to entice players, so that you’d think means big wages too, and this current poor Man U side I think it is fair to say is quite superior to ours.

We could do a lot worse than going in for caulker and Curtis Davis, neither are world beaters granted but better than what we have and wouldn’t cost the world,
They’re both English which I still feel this team is lacking in English men, look how Liverpool have gone on with plenty of English men, Chelsea always try and have a spine of Englishman ,

Looks like none of the 2008 posters(visitors/commentors) of this blog still remain on it to comment..

Not entirely true, I recognise a few names that still remain from 2008 and I posted on atleast 2 of those links 😉
