Newcastle In New Striker Crisis

8:28 am, Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 22 Comments

Shola Ameobi, Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong will all leave Newcastle in the summer for different reasons – Shola’s contract is up and will not be renewed, Loic will join a bigger club when his loan deal ends, and Luuk de Jong hasn’t proved himself good enough to get a permanent deal at Newcastle when loan spell from Borussia Monchengladbach ends.

Papiss Cisse – out until August

And so the only striker we thought we would keep is Papiss Cisse, but the Senegal striker has broken his knee-cap in Saturday’s game,  and could well miss pre-season – so basically all four of our current strikers will not be available for pre-season.

That was the news yesterday, and Cisse will have surgery to repair the damage to his knee, and it’s almost certain he will not be fit when pre-season starts in early July.

Papiss will miss some or all of pre-season, but that means he will hardly be match fit for the opening Premier League games of the season in August.

And with the long-term injury, it becomes unlikely that some club will come in and want to pay the £10M that owner Mike Ashley would take, to let him join another club.

Papiss was linked heavily in January with Turkish clubs Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor, but it’s unlikely they will want to sign Papiss until he’s fully fit.

So the pressure now is really on Lee Charnley and our transfer team,  to bring in at least two strikers before pre-season training starts in early July.

We’ll just have to wait and see if they can get the job done in the summer.

Comments welcome.

Milan fans put Allegri at ebay for $1 when he was their manager, nobody put pardew at ebay.

Loan de Jong until Jan. & extend Sholas contract – simple, but oh so wrong.

    Oh no not Cisse!
Who’s going to not score goals now!

  • 10 BuckLuck // Apr 22, 2014 at 8:42 AM

    Jail for Ashley

Took your advice and I’m now a full member of the NUST.

We’d be 11th now if it wasn’t for Cisses goal !

  • 12 Patoon // Apr 22, 2014 at 8:43 AM

3 of these strikers score gaols anyway so i dont c the big problem, Steven Taylor would actually b better up front than Shola or De Jong, if Cisse was in a team that created chances for him he’d score goals, PARDEW OUT

  • 13 Santon03 // Apr 22, 2014 at 8:47 AM

don’t worry still can be 11th, CP and Stoke still can win against fulham and I don’t see we can win our last 3 games.

Behave he was missing sitter after sitter game after game

Absolute crock, Shola looks more deadly than Cisse

  • 15 Jail for Ashley // Apr 22, 2014 at 8:47 AM

Well done Buck Luck, we need to start getting over some kind of protest that silence in the ground bar a few thousand on Saturday was deafening.

I recently decided to just buy a lifetime membership, save me the hassle of renewing each year!

We would be 11th without Cisse’s goals, we would also have been relegated last year but for Shola’s!! (QPR win at home)

I can see we are being hammered again by Arsenal and Liverpool, my perdiction 6-0 for both games, against cardiff narrow defeat 2-1.

Is sarcasm only used in English ?

  • 19 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 22, 2014 at 8:56 AM

Remy wants better things than Mike Ashley’s Car Boot sale club

    Shola is out of contract

LDJ isn’t worth the fee unless they suddenly drop it too a couple grand!

Cisse is shot, he looks gutless upfront with no fight and no bottle whatsoever, to afraid to challenge anything on the air, sell him, not worthy of the number 9

Start again because this mob have been f**king useless, Cisse and Shola for well over a season!

  • 20 Mattroge // Apr 22, 2014 at 9:04 AM

Patoon@12, Cisse has had any amount of chances this season but has squandered most of them, he’s clearly a man lacking form & confidence. A fact that wasn’t helped by Pardew playing him on the wing for half a season.

  • 21 bobby mango // Apr 22, 2014 at 10:03 AM

This is devastating news. Need him to be fit enough to be sold

  • 22 Sav // Apr 22, 2014 at 11:07 AM

Oh no – striker who can’t score is crocked. Well, that’s one less for the summer clear-out.
