Alan Pardew after the game last night basically validated some of the news about Ben Arfa recently, that he will not be playing the Frenchman in the last few games of the season, and although fit, he wasn’t in the squad that traveled to London.
Ben Arfa – in action at Southampton
There was news recently that Ben Arfa could buy his way out of the last year of his contract, in order to be able to leave Newcastle, and that would make him a free agent in the summer.
That would cost basically what his wages for a year are – which is probably something under £3M, if he is getting £60K/week.
What Alan Pardew said was short and sweet when asked about Ben Arfa after the game:
“Ben Arfa’s fit but I pick the team to try to get a result.”
What Alan Pardew is inferring there is that Ben Arfa is too much of a liability in these tough games, and with the way Newcastle are playing almost every game is a tough one.
And that goes for Cardiff City on Saturday – who are playing at our level – so it will be a close and a tough game.
And Pardew’s comment seems to validate what Alan Oliver reported in the Sunday People over the weekend, that Ben Arfa had already played his last game for Newcastle.
Ben Arfa will leave Newcastle in the summer, unless there’s a change of manager, and the new manager wants to keep the Frenchman.
But it seems like it’s all over between Alan Pardew and Ben Arfa.
What do you think?

Comment #1Had he coached Ben Arfa properly from day one, he would have been able to get a result with him.

Comment #3Benny is a liability in a Pardew team as he wants a team of grafters rather then creative ability, so if Pards stays, HBA has to go

Comment #4No manager has ever got the best out of Benny. All his stays at clubs have ended in a similarly turbulent manner. At some point, rather than blaming everyone else, he has to realise the problem is him.
Benny is extremely talented, and should have been on the bench at the minute, but it isn’t just Pardew he has fallen out with. According to a number of reports it is a sizeable number of the other players as well.
If Benny goes, he goes, I won’t be too upset, talented, on his day a match winner, but he will either end up a big fish in a small pond, or in the same situation Ba has found himself in, back up at a big club.

Comment #6So Parsnip “picks a team to try and get a result”
But what result was he after getting last night then ?
He was clearly playing for the 0-0 but unfortunately, we cant defend in an organised manner, we create nothing from midfield, and our attacking fret is toothless.
We cant attack or even get forwards because we are so paranoid of not defending.
I’ve never seen such a complete and utter shambles of a team

Comment #7I think the more worrying thing is that we have effectively lost Ben Arfa for nothing!!

I don’t argue that Pardew isn’t incompetent, but it is no coincidence HBA has had similar issues at every club he has been to. People blaming Pardew for the Benny situation are just blinded by dislike for Pardew.
Pardew’s issues are not Benny, they are much wider and deeper than that.

Comment #10Pardew could have played Ben Arfa instead of Cisse and in Cissés position for the last 9 games. Trust me, Ben Arfa would have scored more goals than Cisse in that position.
Ben Arfa is not supposed to defend wheter Pardew likes it or not. I’ve never see a player so clumsy defending like Ben Arfa. He’s like Bambi on thin ice. So stop asking him to do any defensive work at all, Mr. Pardew!!!
