If the news reports are to be believed then Newcastle would like to bring in a number of English players this summer, and based on our performances this year, Newcastle will need to bring in quite a number of very good players in the summer, otherwise we could be fighting against relegation for the second time in three seasons.
Carl Jenkinson – on Newcastle’s wanted list
One player we have been linked with is Carl Jenkinson, who was on the bench for Arsenal last night, but didn’t get a game.
The 22 year-old has represented the full England side once, and he is a good attacking winger, who has some pace down the wing.
But if Carl comes in we assume it will be because French International Mathieu Debuchy would be moving out, since Carl and Mathieu are both specialist right backs.
Carl joined Arsenal from Charlton in the summer of 2011, and he’s played 55 times for Arsenal and five times for the England U21 side – and he looks a very decent right back and probably valued at around £4M.
Tom Ince – Blackpool winger on loan at Crustal Palace
Tom Ince is now 22, and he has been linked with Newcastle for a couple of years now, and he becomes a free agent in the summer, but because he is a home-grown player some compensation will have to be paid to Blackpool, and it could be as much as £5M.
There’s likely to be a scramble for his services in the summer, and he has good experience, having started his career at Liverpool and moved to Blackpool in the summer of 2011, and he played 113 times for the Tangerines with 33 goals.
And while on loan at Palace since January, Tom, who is the son of Paul Ince, has played five times with one goal, and he played 13 times for the England U21 side with 3 goals.
Steven Caulker – Cardiff City center-back
Steven Caulker will be in the Cardiff side for the game on Saturday at St. James’ Park, and if Cardiff are relegated he is almost certain to want to leave, so he can keep playing Premier League football.
Most pundits seem to have written Cardiff off after they were hammered 4-0 by Sunderland on Sunday, but Newcastle aren’t exactly in their best form this year, and it wouldn’t be too surprising if City got 3 points at St. James’ Park on Saturday, after they beat us 2-1 in the FA Cup 3rd round tie in January.
It would be another calamity for Newcastle but not a great shock – let’s face it. 🙁
The 22 year-old 6’3″ player has played 37 times for Cardiff this season and scored 5 goals, and last season he was also in south Wales on loan at Swansea City, and he played 26 times – so he’s had good experience in the Premier League over the last two seasons, and while at Tottenham he played 29 times with a couple of goals.
Steven has played once for the full England side and 10 times for the England U21 side and he also played 5 times for Great Britain in the London Olympics, but he wouldn’t come cheap, since Cardiff City paid £8M for him last summer.
We think these three young Englishmen would be very decent signings for Newcastle in the summer.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

It wasn’t a mistake to get rid of them and definetly not the biggest. Perch and Simpson was on the pitch when Arsenal scored 7 goals,.
Regardless of how hardworking you are if you aren’t good enough then you aren’t good enough.
Cabaye and Tiote beats Guthrie and Gosling in every category.
Nolan ability to score goals is missed though and Barton had decent cross.
Most fans would have either Pardew or Ashley as the biggest mistake.

Comment #83the signing of british players are what we need to arrive.
foreigners don’t care one bit about newcastle, the only reason they join a team is for money, champions league ambition or as a stepping stone.
alan shearer was a manager for 8 games yet that team showed no sign of passion, shearer would certainly be determined to motivate players and avoid relegation.
the season we were promoted back into the premier league and that team had 3 players who did everything, those were nolan barton and carroll.
cabaye this season goes on strike for a desperate move
HBA says he wants to win the ballon dor yet he stuffs his body with pasties.
remy last year could have joined us but would rather join QPR who were down.

Comment #85If Andy Carroll was back in our squad now he’d be wasted, Joey Barton was his supplier, so you’d need them both back.
I bet most of our players want away the club’s fcuked.

Can I just second your shout out to Tsunki. See that clever bit of wordplay about Gosling and Shola pawing the toady line?
And to Ian Toon also, who, when he is not playing silly buggers, is a very readable and astute poster indeed.

Oh aye not by any means, the Brits currently at the club are most definitely surplus to requirements
But that’s surely down to Ashley’s recruitment policy of replacing players with the cheapest not the best options?
Not saying British is best, just that if we had a Nolan or Barton character still in the squad, whilst they may not have the ability to alter the results, the fans at the very least would at least see some effort on the pitch to at least show not everybody at the club had shut up shop for the season, which is very much what it’s looked like on the pitch for a couple of months now

I don’t think nationality have anything to do with the ability to fight and if that was the case then it would probably be wise to fill the squad with players from other countries especially those kids from the favelas in Brazil that usally win the World Cup.

Comment #91Tads- things just seem to go from bad to worse. Mind, a trip to Brighton in the FA Cup takes some beating. You know what it’s like when the wheels fall off in football and every other opposition fan has something to tell you about what needs to be done at your club. Well an Arsenal fan ( who seemed a reasonable and knowledgable type) told me he knew a personal friend of Glen Hoddle and that we have approached GH with a view to him becoming our DOF.
It does appear highly unlikely until you start thinking about it. After all a Director of Football is traditionally someone with an outstanding knowledge of the world game, someone who works closely with the manager regarding what the team may need, and someone with the contacts and ability to go out and get them. Does that sound like Glen Hoddle ? Maybe not but did JFK fit the bill! That was completely baffling as well. Personally I think he would be a good choice as a direct replacement for Pardew. Class act on Sky but aside from Neville there is not a lot he’s being judged alongside.

Never said it did mate, said that
A) were being linked with British players because were already on the homegrown limit with a few more set to leave
B) The poster had a point that if we still had a Nolan/Barton/Perch in the team still we would at least see someone giving 100% on the pitch regardless of technical ability
The overriding point being no one at the club is even trying, ffs there barely even going through the motions!

it will take more than a few English player’s to revive us. Most premier league squads are full of foreign players, the difference at Newcastle is MA and Pardew. A lot of players don’t know what they’re getting into apart from knowing we have a great fan base, even that’s dieing

but really when a club is in this much of a mess the most important thing you want to get from players at the club is pride and passion.
foreign players have not got any of that.
colo is our captain yet he just wants to get back to argentina
remy is our best goal scorer yet he is only really scoring so he can attract big money clubs
de jong was given the chance to show how good a striker he could be yet he seems to have only 1 interest and that’s sit on the bench
HBA has all kinds of talent yet doesn’t put it to good use at all basically is as much good as ranger.
british players on the other hand
willo rubbish CB yet this season he has been the best CB of them all
gosling- been on the bench for ever but the last couple of weeks has put in lots of effort weather or not it’s for a move i don’t know.
saylor- does make stupid decisions on the pitch but that doesn’t prevent him from getting the other players to get on with their work.
saylor was an U21 captain so if he gets stick then why doesn’t the foreign players suck as marvo.
the whole thing with barton nolan and carroll is attitude.
this weekend what i want to see on the pitch is
dummett sammi and armstrong together because next season we know these will be still around and they are passionate.

Comment #97If that’s the extent of the quality we’re after then Ashley will succeed in making us a mid table side. Bringing through kids like Sammi and Dummett, is another way of doing it. These players may be worthy of a place in a decent squad, but not one of them surely worthy of a prominent role.
If Ashley does get away with systematically having a big, proud football club punching light for monetary reasons then having successfully convinced fans we’re not big enough too compete will be the main reason why and how sickening is that. What a con job. What a cheap, miserable, shitty way to carry on that would be.

Interesting
Be good to see someone who at least has a knowledge of the game in an influential position at the club, Pardews quotes about Ashley’s knowledge of the football world haunt me every time a major decision needs making ( like the upcoming window and the sheer amount of work that needs doing to this under performing team who seem to have no interest in playing for the shirt)
Hoodle for manager could be a great shout , or could be a disaster based solely on how long he’s been out the game, but maybe with a good right man, maybe Ray Wilkins?

Tbh i couldn’t care less where a player comes from (well except Sunderland) as long as you can see they are giving it 100%
The lads have barely given 50% for months now not one player can hand in heart say there proud of there efforts this season
And to top it all off Pardew seems convinced a home win against a club at the foot of the table will make it all alright again…
Sad thing is Cardiff will come to SJP fighting for there lives, i can’t see any of the lads being up for a scrap at the close end of the season
I wonder if Pardew will stick around for the lap of the ground Saturday to applaud the fans or vanish at lightning speed down the tunnel again?
Wonder if the players will for that matter !

money TV and foreigners are what has destroyed football the most.
so you might say that british players are over paid well so are fen foreigners.
passionate players don’t go on strike
passionate players would not prefer a relegated club more than a club who are in europa league
passionate players perform at their very best when a club has just been relegated or is in the mess we are in.
maybe you should look at southampton mate.
city chelsea arsenal liverpool and united get decent foreign players because it’s champions league provide money.
