Newcastle Keen On Scottish International Winger

News today that Newcastle United are keen on 26-year-old Norwich winger Robert Snodgrass,  who has played 15 times with 3 goals for Scotland, and used to play at Leeds United.

Robert Snodgrass – Norwich City winger

So this is another British player Newcastle have been linked with for the summer, as Newcastle try to sign more British players, and they will certainly lose some of their French contingent this summer.

It’s likely that Newcastle will lose French wingers Ben Arfa, Gabby Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux in the summer, and also Argentine winger Jonas Gutierrez, who is on loan at the Canaries through the end of the season.

The Glaswegian started his career at Livingston back in 2003 as a 15 year-old, and moved to Leeds United in 2008, where he stayed for four years before moving to newly promoted Norwich City in the summer of 2012.

There are a couple of things in Newcastle’s favor – one is that his contract has one year to ruin in June, and the other is Norwich may have to sell some of their players if they are relegated and they are currently 3rd bottom of the league, and have lost their last five games.

Norwich play Chelsea away and Arsenal at home in their final two games of the season. 🙁

Newcastle were even said to be interested in Snodgrass two years ago,  when it was clear he wanted to move on from Leeds.

Snodgrass has a great left foot and he’s played 72 times for Norwich with 14 goals and 14 assists, and while at Leeds United he played 185 times with 40 goals and 40 assists.

He would probably cost around £4M.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Don’t rate him to be honest. Looks decent in a poor side, but David Ginola, he aint.

Ed, I love the blog but I am getting bored hearing about all these players we are interested in. All very average players I must say.
Has anyone heard anything about a walk out on the 60min mark for this weekends game???

Tomkins and the rest to follow.

Funny, you’d think Anal Pardull was a success with his choices of his favoured British players at other clubs which is why it will suddenly work this time.

    … oh yes, he wasn’t.

    Pardew out.

Decent proper winger, whips in a good ball and is a good free kick taker aswell. We’ll probably be able to get him on the cheap too.

Not surprised by this report. He’s looked quite skilful & hard working whenever I’v seen him which is not a lot I may add.Possibly a useful addition to the squad.

British players are far too overpriced compared to players from abroad. So, if Pardew got his favoured British players in then we would be paying a similar price (if any) to our French players, just of a lot less quality to them due to the cost comparison.

End result, poorer quality British players than abroad if the price is capped at a low level.

Good players play well via a good manager, not their nationality.

    Pardew out.

would be a great signing. Him and callum mcmanaman should be signed..two very good british wingers. good luck then to ben afra, obertan, gosling, romain, Jonas

watching the arsenl game, I taught Williamson at the back was poor..will he really be our starting cb for next seasontime to give taylor or yanga a chance at cb. I think snaton should be utilised at r winger. gosling ineffective there. I reckon sissoko takes anits place in cm

Time to give Taylor a chance?? I think that lad has had enough chances, maybe it is injuries, maybe it is coaching, but he hasn’t matured or progressed as many hoped. Would rather give one of the youngsters a game against Cardiff then Taylor. Although lets stick with Willo or Taylor for Liverpool, as I’d prefer not to destroy a bairns confidence by being involved in the toning we will get.

On Snodgrass, I said while watching him at the weekend he would be the type of player Newcastle would get. Decent, good crosser of the ball. Is definitely a better winger than any of our natural wingers – partly cause I think Obertan, Guti and maybe Sammi are the only ones we have.

Decent, solid player. I’d be happy with the sighing… But don’t ever fancy is sighing someone when there’s interest from other prem clubs

I wouldn’t mind a few of the Norwich players to be honest.

Snodgrass, Redmond and Hooper (all British players, relatively young and good) with the likes of Caulker and others too. And hopefully we could bring Forster back as well.

He is a good player, like 6 goals and probably quite a few assists is pretty good for a God awful team. Also he is a lot better than what we have Obertan, Jonas, Marveaux and both Gourffan and Sissoko aren’t wingers. I would like Tom Ince too, very good player with England International potential because this be fair Jay Rodriguez is 2 years older and wasn’t as good at his age, different position but whatever. I would like to see Ings too so that is three British players that will cost £12m altogether of which we can get all back from selling Cisse and the useless wingers we have. I would love to see Demba Ba rejoin the club. Cabella is a good player too, and if we got Jordan Mutch that gives up 4 good midfielders. Defence we need a RB as cover and 2 centre backs, so what about Caulker, Joel Ward and a young centre back like Lascelles from Nottingham Forest
