We are fairly confident that Mike Ashley will give out some sizable transfer funds, so that Newcastle can rebuild their squad in the summer, whoever the manager is, but one thing that worries us just a little bit, is if we can get our top targets to the club.
Mike Ashley – top 10 good enough for Newcastle?
As usual we have already been linked with a number of transfer targets this summer, and some of them look good, and there is an emphasis on British players, as the large French contingent is likely to be reduced this summer, with the likes of Loic Remy, Ben Arfa, Gabby Santon, Sylvain Marveaux and Romain Amalfitano all likely to leave, and follow Yohan Cabaye out of the club.
But Newcastle these days are only a top ten side, and it will be very interesting to see what our goals are for next season – maybe top eight or even top six, or will owner Mike Ashley be satisfied with a top half finish and avoid any relegation fight?
If it’s top ten again next season, that wouldn’t be too surprising, and would only validate that Mike has very little ambition for Newcastle United, but what we should be aiming for is top six, because top six is what we need after two (very) disappointing seasons.
Top players want to go to top clubs, and top clubs play in Europe, and the really top clubs play in the Champions League every season.
Newcastle are not a top club these days, and therefore if a top club is also after one of our transfer targets in the summer, we probably have little chance of getting the player to the Tyneside club.
That’s a side effect of what happens when the owner has limited ambition, and that manifests itself in not playing in European competition,.
And it’s all very sad – but also all so very true. 🙁

Comment #42This NUST malarkey that is going on back home remeinds me When Malcolm Dix had a similar vision.Which I was involved in as a 22 year old.Just noticed thought that Jensen is Chairman….Is it the same M Jensen who was editor of the Mag? If so I knew him when he was a Liverpool fan way back when he was 15-16

Agree, and sadly there must be a damn good reason why he is so cocky
But yeah hope he gets absolute pelters today and I’d imagine he’ll scurry off down the tunnel at light speed come the full time whistle, Ashley has a huge gift wrapped chance for change, can’t see him taking it

Comment #46If there is going to be a clear out at Newcastle who’s going to want the players we sell? Most are championship players at best after our current form.
If you were a premier league manager would you want to pay more than a couple of mill for any of them at best?

He probably doesn’t realise (or care) that he has a massive opportunity to buy himself a lot of time in the eyes of the more middle of the road fans by replacing Pardew and spending a bit of money. Like you though, I cannot see him taking it – for the purposes of seeing fans unite against him, his stubbornness will come in handy!

Comment #51Magpies Could Have Problems Getting Top Targets To Tyneside
No s—t !!1 With pardew still here, you think …!
pardew said the decline started when he headbutted Meyler (which should have been an instant dismissal) and wasn’t in the dugout.
How about the 5 losing games out of 7 just before Cabaye left !!!!! Totally in denial the delusional…
Obviously Ash will never sack P45DUE as he could have done after the head butt which was a god given, gift wrapped opportunity to do so without paying any compo.
Unfortunately the banners saying pardew and Ashley out have probably made ash side with his loser of a manager even more.
I just hope and pray the people potentially renewing their season tickets finally tumble to the bigger picture at stake.

I think the same could be said of both
Ashley could of bought time by replacing a clearly struggling manager and making an investment, not even huge investments, just sensible investment that showed some direction
Pardew could of most definitely bought him self some time and possibly some fan backing if he had some kept up a bit of that passion and belief and spoke with it a installed it in the team, instead the team looks gutless and devoid of passion and his interviews are ridiculous, condescending and solely about finance and NUFC as a product blabbing on like a car salesman rather than the manager of a massive Premier League football club

No massive surprise Remy is out really, finished on high Saturday, the fans rated him, France have prob given him a WC place why risk it in a game where Pardew has said we will be on the defensive
Jobs done for Remy, he’s prob with his agent instructing QPR to find him a club ASAP

That’s true. They both have massive culpability for the situation we find ourselves in, but Pardew’s continuing employment at our club is solely because of Ashley’s lack of ambition. Following last season’s disaster, losing 3 derbies in a row, ‘Nut-Gate’, the horrendous run of form recently, Ashley has had ample opportunities to sack him. Can’t see him bowing to pressure now.

To be honest last few games he has played like he does not want to be here or get injured so it looks like it will be Shola or De Jong up front GOING LONG!!
So we are going to play 11 at the back today ??

Well if people stop going to the games then perhaps he’d sack Pardew and bring someone in to appease the masses and get people back through the turnstiles but for me that will yet another example of how everything Ashley does is to protect his investment.
If it ever got a point where Pardew’s management actually costs Ashley money, then he’ll get rid. But as far as I see it, Pardew brings Ashley more benefits than drawbacks, and as such his job is safe.

Sadly I agree, can’t see Cashley doing sweet FA about anything this summer
Can’t see a serious reshuffle of the management, can’t see the squad being invested in properly, at tops can see cheap replacements coming in for solely outgoing players, no additions tbh
Nothing done to the coaching team, nothing to improve the youth system
Just a whole summer of f**k all!!!

that way if we do get battered at least I will have something to soften blow.I hope I dont win anything though.
Question : if we replace pardwho and ashley pays his contract,is that our transfer budget blown.I only ask as some of you seem to know how much the players earn etc.Or is that from your fifa games 🙂

I actually think Ashley is taking one gamble too many. He either invests heavily and keeps Pardew in charge, or he brings in a much better manager than Pardew.
If he does neither, and the expected departures ensue then we could have quite a difficult season on our hands next season.
As for coaching, youth development, scouting etc. It’s all nonsense, smoke and mirrors to give off the impression that we’re still attempting to function as a football club. Ashley doesn’t care about investing in youth, investing in coaching or anything like that because it’s money down the drain. Do the bare minimum to keep you head above the parapet, no more, no less.
