We had reported last week that German U21 International striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga was wanted by Newcastle, and that’s being reported in talkSPORT, but in addition the news is that Newcastle are actually in the lead to sign the German 22 year-old striker.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga – 22 year-old German U21 striker
22 year-old Lasogga is at Hertha Berlin, but he has been on loan at Hamburg all season, and he’s done extremely well while on loan and scored 14 goals in 22 total appearances for Hamburg, and he’s also played 11 times with 4 goals for the strong German U21 side.
But there are a number of clubs who are interested in him, which is not surprising, but the news in talkSPORT is that Newcastle seem to be in the lead to sign the young striker this summer.
With Shola Ameobi, Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong leaving Newcastle in the summer, we need to sign at least two (preferably three) strikers to replace them.
Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have also made inquiries about the Gladbeck-born striker, and his price tag is said to be around £7M, which seems reasonable for such a top young prospect.
The report says it depends on whether Hamburg stay in the Bundesliga if he’s to be transferred, but he’s only on loan there for the season, and he’s a Hertha Berlin player, so we’re not sure why Hamburg need to avoid relegation, for him to be sold in the summer?
Maybe we are missing something there – it’s happened before. 😀
It would seem he would be a very good signing for the Magpies, if we can get him, and he’s played 69 times in total for Hertha Berlin and scored 24 goals, so he seems to know how to put the ball into the back of the net.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Another one to waste time going through the motions of trying to sign him?
Oh, and Colbeck’s reported to be close to joining West Ham.
Deja Vue…… Again.

You’re right in that Shola’s best wasn’t good enough, apart from the vital goals that won us vital points.
But, good enough or not, he’s a human being who’s been with Newcastle United for years and because of that at least, he deserves the courtesy of thanks and good wishes – not the disrespectful comments uttered by some.
Spot on mate
Whilst not a world beater this bloke has always given 100% for this club, played through injuries on painkilling injunctions when are high earners where happy to warm the treatment bench and forfeited the chance to represent his country simply because we needed him
Regardless of what you think of him as a player you can’t question his continued commitment to the badge of the years and wish him all the best in what ever he does next in his career be it here or elsewhere

Comment #4Dream on. We now know not to believe anything until the guy has made his debut! But he sounds a good prospect. Anyone seen him play?

Comment #9i can see colback signing for us tbh !
to come out and publicly make his interest known about us when he plays for scumderland take some balls and i’d place a bet on him being our 1st signing.
again gomis would be ideal we need 2 strikers who can score and gomis although not prolific can score and should do us for a season or 2 on a free so we can spend money on the other strike partner.
not sure on this german lad though he doesnt look prem standard but i’m no scout so could be proved well wrong.
<3 perez though.

Comment #10Yes although Shola could appear frustratingly lazy on occasions, he has always come over as a very genial character and thoroughly nice guy.
Ash is really cranking up the media spin on new signings. I’m sure he has no ulterior motive whatsoever!
If it really is 60M to spend, not counting agents fees and those surprisingly very expensive free transfers, what a shame it’s pardew who now gets to spend it. Colback, Delph and Wiemann don’t exactly get the pulses racing !
On the other hand this guy, Cabella and the Tenerife guy all sound promising. Where do I sign up!!

Comment #11I’m sure pardew’s rep has spread far and wide and I’d be amazed if any decent french lads, especially cabella would come any more.

Comment #12Shola hasn’t been good enough for years. He’s been here more due to his lack of ability and effort to kick him on further in his career than being ‘loyal’.
He’s been getting paid well enough to hang around his club as no other more successful clubs would take him on. It’s a no brainer for him to stay. Is that really being loyal? The easy route?
If effort is making little conviction to win the ball back or challenge throughout the years, then yes, he’s put loads of effort in.
Game after game he strolls round the pitch for years and many, many times people in the ground have been on at him to try harder. I cut him slack for the first few years, but after that I’ve had enough of him.
He may be a nice guy off the pitch, but that shouldn’t justify a professional playing career.
He’s challeged in the air better the last few years now he’s filled out and can obviously feel his strength but he still ambles round with little product.

Comment #13Doesn’t matter whether you liked aerobic or not he played his best for the club, was NUFC right through, no disrepute, and even a few good memories. I don’t think he was the highest paid either, and few people know what good influence he had in the team. Still a top bloke, respected by his fellow pros, and deserved better than the vitriol dished out by some who claim to be fans, such as Indian Magpie or HD who has revealed his plasticity by saying he no longer supports the club.
Think before you post.

Comment #15Wish some supporters would give shola some slack, ok he has his faults but don’t all players. He has never been a great player but he never been on a great wage either, believe he is only on 25k per week.
I wish him well and hope he finds life in the championship more to his liking bearing in mind he is getting older like most of us supporters on this site.
14 years at one club strewth that takes some doing.

Comment #18Imagine if you were at the Fans Focus tonight and they announce Pardew is staying, transfers will be coming in, Shola is not getting a new playing contract and the club are happy to have finished 10th. What three questions would you want to be fully answered?
My thoughts are that it is useless asking about the availability and amount of a transfer budget, or why there has not been an apology for employing the Joeker as DOF.
1 – why was Pardew not sacked for violent conduct, the collapse of the team since Christmas and his inability to fully utilise the full squad of players at his disposal?
2 – do the board intend to remove the opportunity to expand the stadium onto Strawberry Place and why?
3 – will the target for next season include reaching a cup semi final and improve the strength of the squad to match this requirement?
Can any one be more succinct or be able to expose the real issues that we need proper answers to?

Comment #27Tsunki, how does that sound stupid if no better teams want him? If he’s was playing really well then other teams would be bidding for him. His loan clubs didn’t even work out well for him. He has nowhere near fulfilled his potential. He strolls about and has given very little product for the length of time he’s been here.
His usual lackluster performances haven’t justified clubs laying down decent money to aquire him, so he stays with his club and strolls some more.
Nice for him that he’s stayed so long at the club he supports but he would have been released years ago if he wasn’t from the area.

Comment #29All gone quiet on the Grenier front. Is it dead in the water? We need a creative without Cabaye and supposedly Ben Arfa and Marveaux leaving. Oh – and somebody had better be signed to take frees and corners. If they can do it on Soccer am, we should have a few in the side who can deliver. Or will Ryan Taylor be ‘like a new signing’?
