Newcastle were first interested in Ipswich Town defender Aaron Cresswell last August, and we were again linked with the left-back last month.
Aaron Cresswell – Newcastle interested
There’s a report in the Telegraph today indicating that newly promoted Leicester City, managed by former Newcastle coach Nigel Pearson, are also interested in the 24 year-old.
Other clubs apart from Newcastle who are also interested in the Liverpool-born defender include Crystal Palace, Burnley and Aston Villa, although Newcastle seem to be well covered at left back, with Davide Santon, Massadio Haidara and Paul Dummett in the ranks.
And all three of them are vying for the left-back spot on Tyneside with Haidara, the 21 year-old French U21 International, playing the last couple of league games in that position.
Cresswell seems like a good up-and-coming player but he’s never been capped by England at any level, and we would be surprised if Newcastle bring this lad in over the summer.
That’s unless the club decides to cash in on Davide Santon, but the Italian doesn’t want to leave the club,. and he’s made that fairly clear, as he now has a family on Tyneside.
Aaron was in the PFA Championship Team of the Season side announced earlier this year, and he’s played 118 times with 7 goals for Ipswich, after joining them from local club Tranmere Rovers back in 2011, where he played 80 times with 6 goals.
We would be surprised if Newcastle sign this lad over the summer.
What do you think?

Comment #1Lads let’s be realistic here, Liverpool are a bigger club and will always be bigger both on and off the pitch. Liverpool received £99m this season more than the winners of the league, the reason for this is because of the demand for Liverpool away from our shores. They’ve won more titles and have a bigger fan base across the globe, we are a 1 club city makes a big difference!!
Yes we have 50k+ attending every week (To the pleasure of MA) but to what affect? Our 50k plus fans struggle to pull in the same direction, Liverpool fans ran a very good campaign against Hicks and Gillette although they parted ways because they fell out with each other the fans ultimately ran a PROPER campaign to move the idiots out!!

But many fans are demanding we become a bigger club and have more success than we ever have before it seems! Considering the injected wealth of Man City and Chelski as well as the other 3 big clubs having become commercial behemoths, even 6th place would be a massive achievement! And since Everton and Spurs have grafted for several years to get to where they are, why do fans think that we should do any different?
Look at Everton under Moyes…they struggled against relegation a couple of times, had some good finishes and then in the last few year found some stability, brought through some fantastic youngsters and established themselves in the top 10. Why do we think we can accelerate that process and overtake them? Spurs have finished in the top 10 for virtually every season in the last 10 years and have been very well run.
Ashley took over a mess of a club and granted he certainly took us backwards to begin with (though it should be argued that the rot had already set in). Now, we’re back in the top 10, need to establish ourselves and push on (under Ashley or another owner).
And surely a stable top 10 club is going to be more attractive to an owner rather than a yo-yo club that jumps between challenging for the CL and fighting against relegation…

Comment #3Repost because IT gets on my tits that much
And IT mentions sponsors and maximising income! I wonder how this can be achieved when clearly fatty isn’t giving up his advertising space anytime soon because as the club said “we wouldn’t get anywhere near the 129m the club owes the owner” for the space! So once again IT contradicts ITSELF!

Once again IT sprouts complete and utter bollox! We can’t compare the SBR or keegan years with fatty and pardspews years because he was a inferior manager? yet IT can with Liverpools shankly years and their following years winning naff all! But it’s ok if it suits IT’S argument! Complete and utter drivel! Clearly deluded and up to something because ITS whole argument is based on past history! Fcuk me!

Comment #8Clearly a WUM/TROLL employed or created to back up the dictatorship!
I listen to people’s point of view and if they differ from mine, a debate will ensue, on here, in real life, but that is clearly not what IT wants! All IT seems to do is preach how good IT’S boss has done, how we are all deluded for wanting the best for our club, slag the protesting fans off and call us thick! IT’S here to bait fans solely for the pleasure of winding us up!

And if a person thinks it’s better to get behind the team and will the lads on then he’s derided as some kind of collaborator when all we all want is for this club to be successful and win a trophy in our lifetimes!

Did you not read the figures posted to you by Transfer Sage about the revenue generated by CL?
No real money until the Semi finals, which Liverpool haven’t been near that for years, they haven’t even been in the CL for over four years
Think you’ll find there superior commercial revenue comes from there owner setting up actual sponsorship deals and not using the club as a free advertising board and outsourcing all possible stems of revenue like food and drink and the clubs merchandise to his own companies so the club only gets a small return of match day and merchandising profits

Comment #19I honestly can’t believe there is an argument going on about whether Liverpool are or aren’t a bigger club!! They have a far richer and far more successful history than us Not to mention a far more successful current era.
How do we define a bigger club? Fan base? Liverpool are one of the largest globally, and only beaten by Man U for UK teams.
Trophies? Not even a contest.
Most agree that NUFC are not fulfilling the clubs potential, but saying we are bigger than Liverpool? Howay, lets keep a bit of realism.

I ironically agree with you, I love my club but we are a bunch of deluded fans and I can see why other fans think we are deluded. I can’t believe that a minority of fans believe we are bigger than Liverpool. We can’t run a campaign to remove our owner, we complain but yet attend games…..make a stand either stop watching like me, spoof and others or stop complaining…..I never thought I’d be saying this to fellow fans but the ones who buy season tickets now do so out of self-fulfilment and not for the greater cause. I never thought I’d be saying to fellow fans don’t attend games but I honestly believe those that attend get exactly what they deserve….SHITE football and tactics back by an absolute moron who laughs because you lot can’t stay away on match days!! Great fans…..not really, we aren’t happy but don’t even know how to force change, big club? We can’t even wrestle our club back from MA so technically we are nobodies, just drifters that MA can spit out when he wants like he’s done to NUST and the media, drifters will always be replaced by other drifters, the dull atmosphere fans talk about on match days is down to the punters who are happy to sit through a dull 90mins and then hold up a few banners at the end!!

Comment #27Everton combined goal difference past 2 seasons? +37! So the total difference between the 2 clubs for 2 seasons is 76! Their goal difference is 76 better than us over the last two seasons. That’s a goal a game over 2 full seasons. I’m comparing us with Everton because they are a medium income club. It would be even more embarrassing to compare is with any truly competitive club.

Thank you. A sane voice in an insane world…
Everton, Spurs and Villa are the 3 closest clubs in size in the PL I think (Chelski too but they are to football what Katie Price is to models).
Everton and Spurs have a head start on us. The thing we need to do is make clever decisions and catch them up, not whinge at the fact that we’re not ahead of them.

Comment #33We are pathetic. We have been for 2 full seasons now. That’s far too long to sit on the same manager and if anything move backward with player recruitment. Yes, we are actually worse off now than when we started this season. Completely unsettled players, several bound to leave along with our only decent loanee Remy. We are in big trouble with a clueless owner. How much worse could it get?

Comment #34Yes Everton is a good comparison until you look at the numbers TDS! Then it is horrifying. They make us look terrible. And we are. We are incompetent in so many aspects of football. Clueless, ambitionless owner, out of date manager and coaching staff, no supporter/club relations to speak of, local journo’s banned. The list goes on and on. Verdict? Disaster going forward.

I know it’s the Daily Fail…but just noticed this on the BBC website:
Chelsea have offered striker Romelu Lukaku, 21, to Atletico Madrid as part of a deal to sign 25-year-old forward Diego Costa from the Spanish club.
Full story: Daily Mail
Remember I said that was a possibility yesterday?
Now, I don’t necessarily believe this but it’s at least as valid as most of the player links that we see online.

The Liverpool protest was based on protests by the attending people. Marches to the game, vocal dissent during and after. The vocal anti regime brigade, judging by the volume at the matches this season, have stopped going.
TDS,
I agree, football wise we are on a par, in term of size with probably Everton, Spurs, I’d possibly add Villa to that as well. Chelski are streets ahead now, even if it only happened recently.
To catch up we need the right appointments for the right positions made. Something Ashley has continuously got wrong in his 7 years. I thought the theory of his model was very promising, but he shoots himself in the foot repeatedly.
I wouldn’t expect to be ahead of them at the minute, but I’d expect to be closer. They have a slight head start, I think you over exaggerate not the influence of their sat 10 years, while underplaying the influence of Ashley in the last 7 years of ours.

Not really mate. What numbers are such a bad comparison? In many ways we are a similar sized club. We had more success in terms of getting into the CL over the last 20 years or so but Everton have been solid for a long time.
Just checked. They finished in 17th in 2003/4 and their lowest has been 11th since. In the 3 seasons after 2003/4 (before Mike Ashley), we finished 14th, 7th and 13th. When we finished 7th, we had 58 points, just 9 more than this season, the other 2 seasons we had fewer points.
That’s the 3 seasons BEFORE Mike Ashley! The rot had already set in. Ashley just didn’t do anything to reverse it sadly…
