It will probably be announced later today that Alan Pardew is safe in his job as the Newcastle manager, and presumably that will come after the meeting with Mike Ashley and the Board, and so for the second time in 12 months Pardew narrowly escaped the sack at Newcastle and he will know he must do a better than 10th place next season.
Time called on Ben Arfa’s stay on Tyneside
But the good news – if it’s true – is that Ashley will give Pardew £60M in transfer funds to bring in new players this summer, and Newcastle want to tie up their transfer business before the World Cup begins early next month, but that could be difficult.
We had reported last week that as many as 13 players could leave this summer, but some of them were younger players – but as far as the senior players are concerned, it looks like time is up on Tyneside for Shola Ameobi, Ben Arfa, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabby Obertan, Jonas Gutierrez and Dan Gosling, who may be going to Bournemouth.
On loan strikers Luuk de Jong and Loic Remy will also be leaving the club this summer, and it seems touch and go whether local lad Steven Taylor will also be leaving the club.
It’s not surprising Steven wants to stay on Tyneside, and if we were to hazard a guess, we’d say he’ll be staying at home, at least for next season.
Younger players who will leave the club this summer include James Tavernier, Haris Vuckic, Conor Newton, Shane Ferguson, Romain Amalfitano, and perhaps Mehdi Abeid and local lad Michael Richardson.
Those are a lot of players who will be leaving Newcastle this summer, and we hope there are some very good players coming through the door, which we will need to see, if we are not going to be fighting relegation next season. 🙁

Ashley does recognize this and has set tenth as his parameter, but it will always be tenth and the squad will never be strengthened sufficiently to finish higher as has been proved, Pardew can’t seem to deal with this style of (mis) management so we’ll see a lot more seasons like the one before last and the second half of the last one than we will that season we finished fifth.

Yeah. Lots of people.
You are not going to get away with misrepresenting my argument as being that Liverpool and Newcastle have enjoyed similar success.
You are happy to narrow your Spurs argument down to the years that suit you, rather typically.
And by the same measure, I ask you again.
Why does THIS club progress by taking tiny little “safe” steps over many years, when Liverpool have shown how it is done in just two years?
Their world-wide fan base and trophy cabinet weighs absolutely nothing in the past 24 months compared to the simple expedients of ambition, good management and honesty.

I believe it was more than £65M (closer to £100M) but no need to get into details.
Every club in the PL wants to maximise their potential. Man City, Chelski, Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal at least would need to win the PL every year to say they are doing so and to at least challenge in the CL too. Spurs and Everton would be qualifying for the CL every season if they did.
But if a fan is only happy if their club is maximising their potential, then they’ll be pretty damn miserable fans considering that every other club is trying to do exactly the same thing and that the success of one club is at the detriment of other clubs.

I really hope that 8th is the target next season, but I do really see that consistent top 10 finishes are a good thing for us. It provides a fantastic base. Look at Swansea this season after such a good season last year. Southampton could go the same way if they don’t invest the Shaw/Lallana money wisely. If we stay in that top 10 (at least) then we’re so much more attractive to players and sponsors.

If you think Liverpool were on the same level as us 2 years ago then I completely despair…in fact I give up on this conversation because you obviously just know nothing about football.
I bow out.

A few years of over acheiving had us sixth in the all time PL standings despite missing out the first year, that was over a fifteen year period, BEFORE, SBR a few short years was KK two runners up spots and two cup finals, stop trying to dress us down to the levels Mike Ashley wants us.

Comment #210Often other clubs learn from failure jesper mate. We don’t. We finish 16th and keep Perdue on. We finish 10th with the club falling apart and apparently keep Perdue on. We finish 16th and hire Kinnear as DoF. We have a thin squad and we go 2 windows without permanent signings. How can anyone say we are well off with Ashley? Bizarre at best.

Comment #212TDS, make you a point stating that financially we can’t compete with Liverpool which I prove to you to be wrong but rather than say fair comment I concede that point as we can compete, you respond by bringing another equation into it, yes failing to meet your potential would hurt, but it doesn’t hurt as much as not trying to meet it, so what will you turn this debate into now, the weather forecast perhaps ?

BIG is one of the most over used words in football and causes these problems time and time again.
the problem with the word BIG is it means far to much.
the premier league is the BIGGEST league in the world, yet england can’t even get into the quarter finals, why? it’s simple because the premier league is one of the most watched leagues in the world, it’s got the most unpredictable set of fixtures, more teams worthy of winning the league than any other and finally has got more money than any other.
the about all that is it’s so long so they just say the BIGGEST league.
what is a BIG club has the same problem.
their are those that say a big club means a big stadium
their are those who say a big club is a one who has lots of money and very active in windows.
their is those who believe their overall success is what determines big clubs.
finally their is the amount of global fans that some use as a determination of big clubs.

And since then Chelski and Man City have invested mega-bucks right? Plus we’ve wasted loads of money on overpaid marque players while the likes of Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton have pumped money into young players and their youth system to prepare for the future…
How many young stars have we signed for big money who succeeded? Dyer was good, Viana a flop, Ambrose wasn’t much good either, we passed on Darren Bent when we got Dyer (smart), Bramble was a flop, Krul is decent…meanwhile Spurs and Liverpool have brought loads through.

Err…because the CL provided a huge amount of the revenue that year. Look at commercial revenue and I bet Liverpool were far ahead. Of course CL football is going to bring more revenue in terms of prize money and also sponsors.

Comment #224Lads let’s be realistic here, Liverpool are a bigger club and will always be bigger both on and off the pitch. Liverpool received £99m this season more than the winners of the league, the reason for this is because of the demand for Liverpool away from our shores. They’ve won more titles and have a bigger fan base across the globe, we are a 1 club city makes a big difference!!
Yes we have 50k+ attending every week (To the pleasure of MA) but to what affect? Our 50k plus fans struggle to pull in the same direction, Liverpool fans ran a very good campaign against Hicks and Gillette although they parted ways because they fell out with each other the fans ultimately ran a PROPER campaign to move the idiots out!!

Comment #228More comments from Alain Perdue: “We have a magnificent setup here at the club. We have excellent strikers errr there’s Shola and ummmm what’s his name again? Adam Armstrong? Then there is our magnificent central midfield of ummmm Cheick and ummmm Gosling? Our wingers are brilliant, Obertan and Gouffy. We also have tremendous fullbacks in Dummett and Santon. And our centre backs are beyond compare. Let’s see there’s Colo, Willo and Mbiwa. No changes needed. I would say 17th place is already assured.”

Comment #230Once again IT sprouts complete and utter bollox! We can’t compare the SBR or keegan years with fatty and pardspews years because he was a inferior manager? yet IT can with Liverpools shankly years and their following years winning naff all! But it’s ok if it suits IT’S argument! Complete and utter drivel! Clearly deluded and up to something because ITS whole argument is based on past history! Fcuk me!

Comment #231And IT mentions sponsors and maximising income! I wonder how this can be achieved when clearly fatty isn’t giving up his advertising space anytime soon because as the club said “we wouldn’t get anywhere near the 129m the club owes the owner” for the space! So once again IT contradicts ITSELF!

Comment #234Everton combined goal difference past 2 seasons? +37! So the total difference between the 2 clubs for 2 seasons is 76! Their goal difference is 76 better than us over the last two seasons. That’s a goal a game over 2 full seasons. I’m comparing us with Everton because they are a medium income club. It would be even more embarrassing to compare is with any truly competitive club.

More a case of he will know he must get 10th place AGAIN next season. Any higher is too near to qualifying for Europe.
