Do Newcastle Really Want This England Striker?

The Express is reporting today that Newcastle United will (again) go after Darren Bent this summer, after failing to sign him on loan last summer from Aston Villa, and he finally ended up at Fulham.

darren bent fulham

Darren Bent – on loan at Fulham last season

But he was never a starter for the now relegated London club, so can this player possibly be good enough for what we hope is a rejuvenated Newsletter team this August?

The answer is he’s probably not good enough,  and Newcastle can do a lot better in recruiting strikers this summer, than going back for the 30 year-old former Ipswich, Charlton and Tottenham striker, who has played 13 times with four goals for England.

Last season Bent appeared 23 times in the Premier League for Fulham, mostly as a substitute, and scored just three goals.

This summer transfer window is going to be vitally important for Newcastle, and we cannot afford not to bring in top (young) players this summer.

Darren Bent should not be one of them

Well that’s our opinion  – what do you think?

Comments welcome.

Non starter! These days NUFC lets so little out to media that journos put 2 and 2 together and get 5!
Reasons Bent won’t be joining –
    1) hes 30
    2) hes on 80k a week at villa! He was willing to take a pay cut last season as he wanted to break into englands WC squad but had a shocker of a season!
    3) he turned us down last season as we offered him 20k per week only and told him he’d be 3rd choice….
    4) pretty sure i read that Carr has to sign off on any transfer aswell as Ashley and now Charnley…. Doesn’t strike me as a Carr signing
    5) reflects NO value for money! Is only getting older and doesnt have a marketable name or brand! My bet is hel see out his last year at Villa on mega money

so for flouting the ffp rules that our club cling to like sh1t on a sheeps arse
they get there champions league squad reduced to 21 and a 49mill fine

so will they get done again when they pay this 49mill cos the fine will put them further in the red

what is the point in fining city 49 mill
they should be thrown out of the comp its the only way of bringing them inline, if this is what they want to do.

I think we made it clear last summer we didn’t want bent he went onloan to fullham and 3 or 4 managers there didn’t see him as the answer to save them from going down often choosing the kids infront of him
a striker that’s not good enough for a religated team is the best we can do I weep

First of all fcuk off Darren Bent, secondly Dan Gosling going to Bournmouth???? fair enough, has shown squat all for us, so how do Marveaux an Ben Arfa feel not getting a game when Gosling played the last half dozen, this is purely down to our manager, he simply could not get the best out of these two very talented players, just one of the many reasons why he is not a good manager, he is not strong enough, quite simply a yes man and ass licker to you know who!!!simple as!!!

If we are going to sign Bent we might as well keep Shola on a deal …..

Lets get Gomis as a Shola replacement , Berahino as Best/Lovekrands proper replacement and Bony as Remy’s replacement that would be us sorted for strikers as Gouffran should be playing striker as well

    STAY AWAY FROM DARREN BENT!!

@graeme – the only positive part of Ashley is we know he win’t waste money! Bent would be a waste!
Goslings a strange one! Thought he actually looked like one of the only players that gave a damn towards the end!
On Ben Arfa and Marveaux, personally feel they kept themselves out of the side! If you had a chart for the worst 5 performances in a toon shirt last year i think HBA would probably occupy 3 of those places! Saying that, he’d also occupy places for the best performances! His days were numbered when he fell out with Coloccini IMO
On marveaux, aside from the fact he has a name that sounds like a magician! Has shown so little in a toon shirt its unreal! Ok he got 6 assists last year but his work rate was criminal! And he went missing in so many games! Id take obertan over Marveaux and thats saying something! No idea where ppl get this idea hes a good player! He was decent in france before his injury when he was about 3 times faster… Now hes a lazy, average player who happens to be a tidy passer!

I cannot believe some ppl on here actually believe half the transfer stories in the papers. They are feelers put out by agents to get a sale for their player more often than not. The papers print them for something to put in their rags knowing full well they are tosh.

Always fun to speculate but I wouldn’t believe anything until I see it. Personally I wouldn’t mind it if we signed Snodgrass. Not a fashionable player I grant you but he has a bit of pace and puts in a decent cross and contributes to goals in a poor team.

Jay, just my opinion but Marv got no sort of run at any time in the tea, he like Benny are confidence players and when someone shows they have not got total faith in you, it tells straight away in there performances, how did Gosling warrant so many starts, Bournmouth is about the lads level he should not have been playing for us in the Prem, as i said, just my opinion.

Players with a year left on their contact i can imagine us trying to get on the cheap – Kana-Biyik, andre ayew, ecuele-manga, stambouli, carrasco, lemoine from ligue 1.
From EPL – noble (be shocked if we dont) snodgrass (as mentioned) maybe winston reid, mo diame, mulumbu, delph, and if weve got sense (ha!) jordan mutch! 30/40/60/100m budget regardless, wel still be trying to get players for half of what their worth

@ big pec, i suppose alot of it comes down to how they train! Though with Pardew i think his selection is based on who takes instructions onboard! Think hba and marv, regardless of their talent are tactically quite poor! Theyre free spirits, mavericks and i get the impression pardew hates that kind of player unfortunately for us

I never heard of it before but its not a new thing players not getting on and most still function in a team

pardew cant put his foot down and say sort it out make it work or your both dropped, no he will side with the player who for the last 18months has been trying to get away from the club like he did with ba and cisse when he shoved cisse wide right

its never whats best for the team and club with him its whats easiest for me

My signing prediction (and i have a 95% failure rate) would be:
    Noble 5-6m
    De jong 8m
    Ayew 10m
    A dutch/belgian keeper for bout 2m
    colback – free
    Lescott -free

And that we’ll be in dialogue with Remy Cabella all fokken summer and miss out coz we hagled over 500,000 and he’ll go monaco or somwhere in italy!

Leaving i can see Liverpool taking Ben Arfa for peanuts, marv going somewhere russia or middle easty
Steven Taylor joining newly promoted QPR
Shola getting a 1 year deal
allllll the predictions right there! All based on educated guess work absolutely no ITK at all

@beermonkey yea its a list unfortunately out of realism rather than what i’d want!
Personally, from the players that look to be available, id take Zaha, Ravel Morrison, bolasie ( year left on his deal) berahino, and probably colback as hes a good squad player.
Id line up 4-2-3-1 with Krul, debuchy, MYM, Coloccini, Santon, sissoko and tiote holding, bolasie left, zaha right, morrison central and berahino up top! Itd be exciting for the fans, lots of pace and trickery but also hard working players! In tiote, colo , MYM and debuchy theres experience there with also colback, gouffran (as a striker, because thats what he is, anita etc from the bench
    Dreams ay

I see where your coming from its a realistic list

I would take zaha and powel from utd
    moses and danny ings

don’t think I would bother with Morrison he is after the cash and has a bit of an attitude but if you can control that he is a talent

really no1 understands who is incharge of transfers at the club we don’t know weather the brief is still the same young players with sell on value
yes pards wants more british players but we know the club is unwilling to pay the top dollar that these players cost
for us its wait and see

I would take rodwell onloan if we could buy him cheap in the deal as well but keeping him fit is a bit of risk

jay finally someone supports my thinking on marv and actually posts!

yeah he got some assists last season but thats only stats on “for” the team his general awareness, off the ball is shocking and thats something that is trained from a young age (i.e ball watching)

and i had it with him this season when he just stopped when he lost the ball and gave up that junior football stuff no matter wat anyone says

he might have a good pass in him but if that “might” be a couple of seconds a game he’s of no use in a team!

this story is nothing more than yet another way the papers can make us fans look like fools.
papers know pardew said he wants English man
papers know fans bash pardew more than Ashley now.
papers know this would certainly not be a player Ashley will buy.
so basically they can yet again make us look like fools because we will take the story serious to make pardew get bashed more.
jay photo summed it up perfectly.

    @ beermonkey
I didn’t her any stories of the bust up being between colo and HBA alone, what I was reading is that it was actually the whole team that didn’t want HBA getting into the team and I think pardew just saw this as the same typical problem that HBA has had with both lyon and Marseille so he just takes the same action as them two did and will not keep him as their is bigger problems at the club.

the reason I think he chose to put ba back into the centre was because he has seen a carroll sale without a replacement and a summer window that has only 1 signing when the season has Europa league games, we only would have cisse and shola left as strikers so he was desperate to keep ba.

think about this season when he played cabaye.

what I think about pardew is he is too scared to stand up to Ashley any manage would be really.
nearly all the things that I see as a problem with pardew, I just think a bit more deeply and see they start off with Ashley.

the ba back in centre- carroll and the summer already show signs of how unlikely he will be replaced.

the decision not to start Armstrong-Ashley will see that as more reason not to bring a striker in

the massive amount of losses since January- will that convince Ashley to spend some fcuken money or not?

the bad runs in the cup- Ashley doesn’t want Europa league

the HBA not starting- well he was not going to be ahead of cabaye, then when cabaye left things were starting to look bad in the dressing room and lots didn’t want him to play.

the biggests thing of all about pardew is that he’s preventing a fans united as we have been divided from day one and this year has got me thinking we will never see pardew sacked because ashley himself knows that whilst pardew is here ashley can avoid getting all the critism he deserves.

the biggest sign of all was when fans walked out at Cardiff AFTER they have paid the money to ashley.

if they just stayed away then ashley, pardew and the players would be punished but when they do it in the 69th minute all that does is tell people that the players and manager are what needs changing, the owner has already got his money.

on the ba going back into the centre yes I know he wanted to keep him
but we were in the 3 cups and the league there was enough games there to keep both of them happy and not do what he did

I did feel sorry a bit for ba in the time he was out left cos he had a run of no goals he did come close a few times but the press started there usual sh1t and asking whens he gonna score again though pardew could have nipped that in the bud and didn’t

pards will go when Ashley goes for all that’s gone on the last 2 seasons the form we have shown some of his antics on the pitch as well
he is coated in Teflon nothing sticks and he wont get the sack now

beer people seem to forget how bloody unlucky ba was in that final half of the season he could have had at least another 6 goals if it worn’t for fouls on him or the woodwork

but his presence on the manager was wrong and it showed for the team

we should have stayed that way and we probably would have seen the results follow

but pardew crumbled hoping that ba would stay and he still left!!

saying remember “i have made it”!!!

that should tell you and everyone that he was only ever looking out for number 1!

pardew no doubt should have learnt from that

I cannot stress what a poor signing this would be. Living in London, I saw Fulham play a number of times this year (had to get my fix of footy!) and Bent would be sent to warm up every game. Whilst all other subs went through their routine, sprinting, stretching etc, Bent would stand in front of us near the corner flag, hands on hips watching the game. Every time. We used to shout at him to move and heaven forbid, warm up! He never did. And then he would come on, and against Hull was through on goal but got caught by the defender who started 5 yards behind him. Why? Because he hadn’t warmed up sufficiently. A lazy player who is probably about our level these days. And that’s just depressing. To paraphrase the Simon and Garfunkel classic, ‘Where have you gone Alan Shearer, a nation turns its lonely eye to you, woo hoo hoo…’
