Newcastle Going After Jack Rodwell

Newcastle have again been linked with 23 year-old Manchester City’s England midfielder Jack Rodwell, who has played very little in the two years he’s been away from Everton.

Jack Rodwell

Jack Rodwell – Newcastle interested

In fact in the last two seasons at City he’s played only 24 times with two goals, but he has also been out injured a lot of the time, and last season played only 9 times for City in all competitions.

Rodwell joined Everton at the ripe young age of 7 and came through the Youth ranks on Mersyside,  and he was always a top young player and played for all the England youth sides, including 21 times at the England U21 level and he has 3 full England caps, but his career has gone off track a lot over the last two seasons.

Rodwell is likely to leave City in the summer to try to get his career going again, and Manchester City also need to sell some players as they try to get their financials in order.

In the last two financial years they have lost around £98M and £51.6M, which is nowhere even close to the Financial Fair Play (FFP) guidelines, and they have to reduce that red ink quite a bit, to be in step with the current UEFA  FFP rules.

And they have just been fined €60M by UEFA for failing to meet the rules over the last three seasons.

One note of caution for Newcastle is that Jack seems to pick up a lot of injuries, although he’s an excellent player with very good skills and he came through the ranks at Everton.

Rodwell could cost as much as £10M, City paid £12M for him two years ago, but there could be other clubs also interested in the player, including former club Everton, and new manager Roberto Martinez is always interested in good young talent.

In the five seasons Jack was in the first team at the Toffees,  he played 109 times with 8 goals for them, and was one of England’s best young players.

Dan would be a good acquisition for Newcastle, but we are going to face some competition for him – for sure.

Comments welcome.

Don’t see how the hell he has a future at City with the likes of Yaya-Nasri-Milner-Silva ect in front of him. Only worry for me is that he’s a bit injury prone for a young lad.
Micah and Rodwell in our ranks would definitely be a step in the right direction to what we currently have at our disposal

good player i’d take him and look forward to seeing him play for england in the future.

we could also do a lot worse than try to sign curtis davies from hull also as the lad was awsome last night.

Looks like Pardew is going back to our old scouting tactics. i.e, sniffing around the top teams for cast offs like Nicky Butt, Damien Duff, & Obertan. I can’t remember many players leaving the top team and doing well at a small team. Usually they can’t motivate themselves for a mid-table slog.

Would be nice to see a contingent of English based players next season
Hughes would all fit the bill that we require to bolster our ailing team

Jazzyp…I would just like to see some players being put to use and actually evolve while being here 🙂

…do you think there are affordable buys to be made in the PL or the Champ?

I don’t know enough about the young Brits besides they are usually overpriced!

    To everyone else’s previous posts

Linked Players are never gonna be seen within the walls of St James’s due to individuals in here slating the Board every opportunity.

Players want to be at clubs with supporters

So while a few hundred rattle on about the unknown

There are many thousands out there that still have faith!

We should be welcoming the prospectives; or keeping heads in sand unless you are in a position to change world somehow

But I’m sure major business ain’t run on a public blog unless it’s positive

Rodwell would.nt come here but i think Davis is a possibility unless a top 6 side came in for him.
He wont be on a big wage at Hull so at least we might be able to compete.

If Rodwell’s keen to win things, he’d be better going to a bigger club such as Sunderland, Hull City, Swansea.
