There’s some good news today coming out of France, that Yohan Cabaye, the former Newcastle central midfielder has recommended Newcastle United to one of Newcastle’s top targets – 24 year-old Montpellier winger Remy Cabella.
Remy Cabella – Cabaye recommends Newcastle United
Remy Cabella has been pursued by Newcastle since January, but Joe Kinnear failed to bring in any new players during the last transfer window, other than on-loan striker Luuk de Jong – who was a flop – and Joe was fired in early February.
Cabella has been on French TV, and he says Newcastle is a good club, and the news is that he has talked to Yohan Cabaye about the French International’s experience at the Tyneside club:
“Newcastle is one of the great teams in England.” “Yohan Cabaye told me a lot of good things about them. “
“I have an agreement with the club that I can leave if a good offer presents itself.” “I will think with an open mind before making my decision.¨
“Newcastle is a good English club. I will see what my coach and club tells me.” “I need to make the right choice with regards to Euro 2016. I could also stay in France.¨
“Marseilles is one of France’s big clubs and there are big French clubs interested in me.”
That’s not good news for Newcastle if he listens to what the club and the coach tell him.
Both 70 year-old Montpellier Chairman Louis Nicollin and coach Rolland Courbis in January both criticized Newcastle, and Nicollin blasted his then captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa when he moved to Newcastle in January of last year.
Yohan Cabaye – while at Newcastle United early last season
This is what Nicollin said on January 21st last year to L’Equipe after hearing Yanga-Mbiwa had chosen Newcastle:
“He chose Newcastle? If so, he is an ass,” “It is not my fault but I think the manager Alan Pardew played a role. Newcastle, this is really not a good choice. They will transfer him the next year.¨
“It doesn’t bother me. We’re not going to cry. He is not irreplaceable. The important thing is that we get money.”
And this is what Rolland Courbis said last January 19th, when Newcastle were interested in signing Cabella:
“They are not a big club.” “And I hope another club tries to buy him.” “As a player I would not even want to spend a week there Newcastle.”
So we hope that Remy Cabella doesn’t listen too much to what the Montpellier Chairman and coach have to say about Newcastle, and we also expect Alan Pardew to be talking to the player to persuade him to sign for Newcastle.
