Our Player Of The Season Is A Real Surprise

We were all talking a year ago of how Mike Williamson’s time at Newcastle could be up, and for his own good he may want to leave Newcastle to get first team football elsewhere.

Mike Williamson – in action at Old Trafford

And in fact Mike started the season as Newcastle’s fourth choice center-back, and Mike’s a study in how not to give up, but to get your head down in training and give 100% and hope for the best.

Mike had a very good season for Newcastle, and but for some sterling performances at the back from him, we probably would have not made the top ten last season for only the third time in the last 10 years, since Sir Bobby Robson was fired.

The turning point for Mike was on September 30th, over six weeks into the season, when we were 3-0 down at Everton at half time and being hammered, and Mike came in to steady things down and we only lost that game 3-2, but Mike was in the first team for the rest of the season.

And he’s our Player of the Season with a good 25% of the vote followed by Mathieu Debuchy at 19% and Yohan Cabaye at 16%.

    REPOST

Hall and particularly Shepherd played on Geordie sentimentality and xenophobia by saying they were just local lads like all those through the turnstiles and only wanted what was best for the club they loved. Absolute tripe.

They loved money, other people’s money. They and their families robbed the club and the loyal fans who came through the turnstiles.

They were cynical thieving cheats and had little or no regard for Geordies in general and Newcastle United supporters in particular.

2008 – Habib Beye! What happened that year to the vote? Did only 3 people vote, and 2 of them were his brothers?

How people can vote for this guy is beyond me! Yes he may put in effort but his quality falls way short of the standard we should expect from a PL Center half. He has zero composure on the ball, iv never seen a footballer more frightened when is possesion! He is mostly to blame when it comes to individual errors that concede goals. The guy is a clown and it shows how far our expectations have dropped when ppl think he’s been our “best player”

Wow, in the past 7 years we’ve voted SIX defenders and one DM (with 1 goal in his entire Toon career) as players of the year!

So much for the Entertainers, huh?
