Newcastle are said to be interested in West Ham’s central midfielder Mohamed (Mo) Diame, who could be leaving the east London club this summer.
Mo Diame – West Ham’s experienced central midfielder
Apparently the 26 year-old Senegal International has already said he wants to leave the club in the summer, but he wants to join a top six club and at the time he said Liverpool were interested in him.
Diame signed a three-year deal at the Hammers in the summer of 2012, so the contract still has one year to run, but maybe he will come at a knockdown price, and Newcastle are in the market for central midfielders, and are always interested in good deals.
And it so happens that the Mirror report points out that he has a £3.5M buyout clause in his contract.
But if Liverpool are really interested in the player Newcastle wouldn’t stand much of a chance, although we suppose we were a top six club two years ago – if that counts? 😀
This is what the France-born midfielder had said about a possible Liverpool move:
“Liverpool? I can’t tell you if I will be a Liverpool player next season.” “But I think my name is still on their wanted list.”
“I don’t hide it, I’m ambitious and I want to join a top-six side. I am 26 years old and it’s time to take that step.”
That sounds to us a little like self-promotion – let’s rephrase that – it sounds a lot like self-promotion, so if Liverpool are not interested maybe the Magpies would have a chance of getting the 19 times capped Senegal International.
Diame joined Wigan in 2009, and in his three years there, he played 103 game with 7 goals, and at West Ham in the last two seasons, he has 75 appearances with 7 goals, so he’s an experienced Premier League player, who played 41 times with four goals for the Hammers last season.
But a stumbling block could be his massive wages of £80K/week, and he wouldn’t get that at Newcastle, that’s for sure.
West Ham may want to cash in this summer on their midfielder, rather than lose him for nothing in a year’s time, when he would become a free agent, and of course they’d also save around £4M on his wages alone.
And having been born in France, he would fit in very quickly at Newcastle.
What do you think?
