Will This Striker Be Signed By Newcastle Today?

Newcastle were first linked with 20 year-old Tenerife striker Ayoze Perez in early April, and he would be brought into Newcastle to initially play for the Development team, and it looks like he’s getting closer to a Newcastle move, because it is being reported in Portugal that he has just turned down the opportunity to sign for former Champions League Winners Porto.

Ayoze Pérez

Tenerife striker Ayoze Perez – could be joining Newcastle

The news was reported on Portuguese journalist Goncalo Lopes’ Twitter site, and he tweeted this:

“Ayoze Perez close to sign for Newcastle. Refused FC Porto.”

And of course the Twitter feeds have now gone crazy, saying the youngster is even in Newcastle today, and that he will be taking a medical, and that the signing could even be announced by the end of today – but reader beware – people make things up on social media.

But we suppose it could happen – wonders never cease – but it will not be  a senior signing.

The 20 year-old scored 16 goals in 33 appearances for Tenerife in all appearances last season, and Tenerife finished 10th of 22 teams in the Spanish second division, so it’s really hard to judge just how good this lad is.

Perez was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands, and he will be one for the future, and will probably not make the Newcastle first team squad, if we sign him in the summer – or even today.

What do you think?

Hes too good for our developement side! Very quick, can play across the centre or wings and apparantly his attitude is spot on! Hes already better than gouffran and cisse and at 20/21 is at an age where he should be playing

    @8 jay

i agree m8 the lad is a better striker for scoring/assist/movement than what we have by far “if” we sign him he should be going straight into the first team without a doubt.

    From last thread

And so it begins. Noble, like his would-be manager, defines mediocrity. Why are we talking about West ham rejects and at 8m at that!!!!

I’m sorry but the English players we’re linked with are way, way over priced when you consider Cabaye was 4.5M!

Even if we somehow don’t cock up getting Cabella and some of the more promising sounding people like the German striker, Grenier and this Spanish guy etc, we still have manager with only a 37% win ratio who couldn’t develop a cold, let alone promising young talent !

More bargain signings that are not good enough for this club, we are a laughing stock. £10m for Cabella and Ashley won’t pay more then £8m after pocketing over a £100m this year from the club, people need to boycott NOW!

He might be a lot better than Gouff and Cisse, but that’s not what matters. They are senior players and he is only 20.

he might only be 20, but if he’s good enough, he’s old enough.

He sounds pretty special to me and looks far more skilled than any young players we have at the moment… I know its YouTube but he looks amazing and Barca have been tracking him so sounds more than worth it for the price

Great news, we are gonna sign someone who has zero experience of the Premier league. One of the quickest, and most technical leagues in the world. One for the future? And no Spanish teams were in for him? Lets not be pissing in our pants just yet, may I present to you…….Fabio Zamblera, Luuk de Jong, Andreas Anderson, Daniel Cordone, and Whats-his-face from Tenerife.
Christ we are really in trouble unless these muppets upstairs sign some REAL quality, instead of having a punt on hopefuls.
