There will be a number of Newcastle’s younger players leaving in the summer, and the Newcastle web-site is reporting that 22 year-old local lad Conor Newton, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at St. Mirren, will be joining Rotherham United this summer.
Conor Newton – in action at St. Mirren
That’s where James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic have been on loan this year, and Rotherham are in the play-off finals of League One, and will play Leyton Orient on Sunday at Wembley, for the right to play in the Championship next season.
It’s being reported the Newcastle-born player, who grew up in Whickham, has signed a two year deal at the Millers, and will join them when his contract runs out at Newcastle at the end of June, and of course it has not been renewed.
Newton came through the Newcastle Youth Academy, but like a number of other young players at the club, he has been unable to make the jump to become a first team player.
Other younger players such as James Tavernier, Haris Vuckic and Shane Ferguson are also expected to leave the Newcastle club this summer, to get first team football elsewhere.
And it’s also thought that Rotherham would like to sign Tavernier permanently, after some terrific performances from the 22 year-old this season.
Conor never played for the Newcastle first team but the central midfielder spent two good seasons north of the border at St. Mirren, where he played 61 times with 8 goals.
We wish Conor every success for his future in football, and Rotherham seems like a good move for him, and they have done very well this season.

I’m not sure it is us being too slow if he goes elsewhere this time. Nicolin didn’t want to sell in Jan, and Cabella was happy to stay after being told he could leave in the summer. They only just stayed up, so an extra few million probably wouldn’t have done it for us. After that, it made sense for the lad to wait and see how the land lay come the summer, and now he says he will make a decision once his training with the French squad is up.
Beermonkey,
It may depend on how Salah has taken to English football. Also, there were stories last season that Mourinho wasn’t happy with his attacking midfielders, even Hazard at one stage, so it isn’t unthinkable that they would go for him.

Why didn’t you know? We can’t compete with stoke or Southampton or any team for that matter 😉
