Reports from France suggest that Newcastle are one of several clubs who have already made inquiries for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, who tunes 23 next Wednesday.
Alexandre Lacazette – Newcastle have inquired about striker
Alexandre Lacazette has scored 22 goals in 54 games for Lyon this season, and has two full caps for France.
Two other clubs said to be interested in the player are Arsenal and Everton, but Arsenal have a number of striker targets, and they include Loic Remy.
The latest news on Remy is that he may need to eventually choose between Arsenal and Liverpool, and he may well chose Arsenal, where he would probably have a better chance of being a starter in London.
Newcastle today reported that three of our four strikers – Shola Ameobi, Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong – will all be leaving the club this summer, so we need to bring in some top strikers this summer.
Liverpool and Italian champions Juventus are also interested in the young French striker, but there again they have other top striker targets they are also pursuing.
Le Progres are reporting that Lyon are expecting offers soon from English clubs, but if Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus are really interested in Lacazette, it’s hard to see how Newcastle can be successful in getting him on Tyneside.
But on the positive side, Alexandre will almost be guaranteed first team football at Newcastle, and the Tyneside club are still highly regarded in France, and he would need to fight for his place at some of the other top clubs.
So we suppose that could be an advantage to Newcastle – maybe.
There are just 19 days to go until the World Cup gets underway in Brazil. and Newcastle have said they would like to get all of their transfer business tied up by then.
