Newcastle Still Interested in Senegal Midfielder

It seems that Newcastle United are still interested in bringing West Ham central midfielder Mohamed Diame to Newcastle in the summer, and one of the (many) areas we need to strengthen is in central midfield.

Mo Diame in action against Newcastle

Hopefully we will be able to get some creative players in this summer to replace the departed Yohan Cabaye, and since Diame is said to have a release clause in his contract of only £3.5M, he would be a good acquisition for Newcastle at that price.

But it will depend on whether Liverpool are interested in the player, since it seems he would just love to sign for the Reds, and has already made that public.

One reason that Diame was frustrated at the Hammers last season was that manager Sam Allardyce played him on the wing a lot,  and Sam played former Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan and Newcastle target Mark Noble in central midfield.

The three clubs said to be initially interested in the player are Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle, with Everton also said to be becoming interested in the 18 times capped Senegal International, who was born in Creteil in France.

The 26-year-old is also wanted by Inter-Milan , so if some of these bigger clubs are really interested in the midfielder, and it’s not just paper-talk, it wouldn’t be good for Newcastle.

And with Newcastle wanting to complete their transfer business before the World Cup starts on June 12th, we’ll have to get a move on, and should be hearing of some signings fairly soon.

That’s always assuming Newcastle will complete their transfers before mid June, which was always going to be very tough, especially in a World Cup year, where clubs generally want to hold onto their players hoping they will perform well in the competition and their transfer fee goes up.

While at West Ham over the last two seasons Diame has made 75 appearances with 7 goals, and while at Wigan in the previous three seasons,  he played 103 games with 7 goals – so he has ample Premier League experience..

Comment welcome.

Looks like Perez is in the bag. One of his Tenerife teamates has stated he is joining the Toon. Looks as if we may not announce it until the window opens on July 1st.
If this is so (re announcements) it is going to be a long few weeks waiting for confirmations as to who we have actually signed. Hopefully, all the groundwork has been done.

    Beermonkey,
Yeah, the stories I heard are that Hazard’s brother will be available for loan to a Premier league club this season. They had half a team at Vitesse last season as well, including Piazon who is another similar player. Still, I wouldn’t rule it out completely.

    Tuff,
Window opens on 9th June, I think it is more likely we will wait until the end of the season for Spanish Segunda before anything is announced.

    Beermonkey,
They had Marin and DeBruyne, but I thought one of them was sold permanently after an initial loan spell. Not sure which.

Imagine the B squad they could have in League 3!

Chelsea had van ginkel injured most of last season too! Hes going to be a great player! Crazy to think they have Courtois, lukaku, Piazon, Marin, Van Ginkel, Romeu, Zouma and Bertrand to add to their squad if they choose

it would be a good team wouldn’t take them long to get to the championship

just looked on wiki they have 31 players out on loan.

wouldn’t mind marin saw him a couple of times before he went out onloan

I see newton going to Rotherham I hope they get promoted and goes to show getting our youngsters out onloan as early as we can as instead of players leaving for free we could charge a small fee and healthy sell on clause

Sham played him on the wing alot instead of in his preferred position so he wants to leave?

He definitely won’t be coming here then ed, pardspew would have him playing in exactly the same place just like he does with sissoko

    Beermonkey,
Yeah, Marin looks a decent player. Will be interesting to see what they do with all these players. Surely the players don’t want to continuously be on loan.

I’d take Moses here, he seems to be the sort of direct attacking player Pards likes. Not too fussed on Zaha, he still has a lot to learn, and whether we have the staff to bring him on is questionable. He is okay, but hasn’t shown anything more than glimpses of potential – even before Man U signed him.

    lilo/beermonkey.
    Just checking the windows.
It would appear within the same association -England -the window would be 9th June to 31st August -so we could sign from English teams within these dates.
Spanish Segunda – as stated their season is still ongoing with the second leg of their play off finals destined for 22nd June. So as the transfer window cannot start until the end of season -we are going to have to wait a bit for any “official” news.
