There are reports in France that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is ready to sign Remy Cabella of Montpellier – a talented and creative player who has been high on the list of wanted men at Newcastle since January – when we sold Yohan Cabaye to PSG, and didn’t bother to replace him.
Remy Cabella – Chelsea now interested?
The reports in the French press are that Chelsea are ready to make a move for the 24 year-old, but of course he wouldn’t be an automatic starter at Chelsea, although they could probably offer him a higher wage than Newcastle.
The news is hard to believe – that Chelsea would be willing to pay him £90K/week to join them – but Chelsea have to get their finances under control and almost break even financially over the next couple of years.
And we’ve seen with big spending clubs like Manchester City and PSG, that UEFA are ready to come down hard on clubs that flaunt the Financial Fair Play rules, and even Championship play-off club QPR are in trouble in England for losing over £62M in their last financial year through June os last year.
Under the rules of Financial Fair Play, clubs will be fined on their losses, and effectively QPR will pay a £1 fine for every £1 they lose during the 2013/2014 financial year, over a figure of £18M – which is the allowable loss.
And for Chelsea to pay that amount of wages to a player who would unlikely be a starter at Stamford Bridge seems a little extravagant, to say the least – that’s £4.5M a year in wages.
Montpellier Chairman Louis Nicollin has told his midfielder he can definitely leave the club in the summer, and since Newcastle were interested last January, it’s true that some bigger clubs have become interested in the talented player.
The French reports suggest that both Chelsea and Newcastle are readying bids of £7M for the player, but Montpellier wanted twice that amount in January, and we would be surprised if the Cabella fee is as low as that.
If Chelsea are really interested in signing the player it may make things very difficult for Newcastle, and since January, both Arsenal and Marseilles have also shown an interest in him.
Remy Cabella had a very good season for Montpellier, and helped them just survive relegation, and in 39 total appearances he scored 14 goals and had 9 assists, and he would be a terrific acquisition for Newcastle, if we can get him.
Over to you Lee Charnley.

Comment #85Must say I am really concerned that we have ONE recognised striker in the squad. I also fear Ashley will expect Perez to be part of the first team when he clearly needs time. Even with Perez in we still need 3 strikers. The squad at the moment is more depleted then I have ever seen in 30+ years of support. Ashley ain’t that stupid so I believe we will see quantity arrive it just depends how good they are. Fingers crossed.

Comment #87Just listening to Barton behaving himself in an interview. He wont be able to keep it under wraps next year. Would expect he has a few nasty things to say about the owner

Comment #88QPR, Leicester and Burnley, added to the atleast half dozen duff sides already in the Premier league, gives you some idea of how crap we’d have to be to go down and just how sh@t we really were for the 2nd part of last season.

Comment #89I think QPR fans will have the last laugh at the end of this season when we are on the verge of relegation and they sit nicely above us.

Let’s try and go for Siem de Jong as well or someone similar ASAP.

Comment #94Jimmy @ 88 – so any target next season must start at 10th, which is where we finished this year. So next season, how far are they going to stretch their ambition? 9th? 8th? 6th???

Comment #104Thump – Morinho is worried that P45DUE is going to get it right this year and will take Chelski’s place in Champions League. He is therefore looking at P45DUE’s shrewd potential signings and then using his owners money to buy them.
There is no aim to use them, its simply to stop us replacing Chelski in the top 4.

Comment #106Anyone read what west ham chairman said after confirming allardyce as staying at west ham?
he wants attacking football, a top 10 finish and funds will be made available.
look at the ambition of west ham. west ham coming out to clarify about allardyce and lee charnley’s recent meeting with the fans’ are of complete contrast.
while 1 states ambition of top 10 and wanting to entertain and buy players, ours is about shunning a cup run statistics and main aim is premier league survival.
couldn’t have been more contrasting..
