The Journal is reporting that French club Bordeaux have offered Newcastle one of their players – 26 year-old striker Cheick Diabate, but it’s always a bit dubious when this happens, and the question is why do they want to unload their player?
Cheick Diabate – 26 year-old Bordeaux striker
Yes – they know we need strikers and they are just trying to help out. 😀
One thing in Newcastle’s favor is that Yoan Gouffran will know all about the player, having played up front with him for a number of seasons at Bordeaux, before the Frenchman joined Newcastle almost eighteen months ago.
Diabate stands a massive 6’4″ tall and was born in Bamako in Mali, and he has been at the French club since 2006.
He scored 12 goals in 28 games for Bordeaux last season and had a good season, and in his career at the French club he has made 140 total appearances with 57 goals and 13 assists, and certainly his height could help Newcastle on set plays like corners.
Maybe we could even score a goal from a corner with him up front, but yes – I know – I’m getting carried away – again.
And he scored both goals in Bordeaux in the Europa League group game in early December of 2012, when we lost that last group game 2-0, and Diabate looked an impressive player in that game.
Diabate has also scored 12 goals in 31 appearances for his country, and was part of the Mali side that earned third place back in the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
And he was one of the top scorers in that particular competition, and scored 3 goals in total, including two in the third place play-off game against Ghana.
He’s had a good season in France, and the news is that both Arsenal and Newcastle have shown interest in the player, and it’s estimated it would cost Newcastle about €7M to get him to Newcastle – that’s about £5.6M, and we could even afford that.
But it’s difficult to know how good he would be in the Premier League.
What do you think?

It doesn’t say anywhere that NUFC are interested. It simply says he’s been offered and it’s unclear wether NUFC will pursue.
I’m saying this because I despise misleading headlines, as this one isn’t even remotely true.

Comment #2At the moment any striker is worth a mention as at the moment we have Gouffran and that’s it til Cisse’s knee sorts out and we won’t know if he’ll ever return to form

Player we really need is siem de jon dissapointed we dont seem to be makin a move for him as he would slot perfectlyinto cabayes no.10 role or can be used as backup centre forward

Comment #5If we got him, Perez and Lasaugna then Campbell and Armstrong that is a good strike force. Get Cabella, Zaha/Redmond and another centre midfielder and defence no clue, over the last 5 years Colo and Debuchy have been our only good defenders, but Williamson is getting there Ryan Taylor and Simpson are decent too, but Simpson is at QPR and Ryan had a bad 2 years of injuries.

“A promising playeer from Mali blah blah”
He is very very average. (No wonder we’re being linked with him)
Scoring 12 goals in a season in France might equate to half that if your lucky in the Prem.
Turning out to be another long, boring, preictable NUFC summer lads and its only just begun.
