Newcastle Move In For Top Central Midfield Target

We are hoping that Newcastle can get their first senior signing of the summer very shortly, and that’s going to have to be soon,  if we are going to complete our transfer business before the World Cup starts in June, which is the stated objective.

clement grenier

Clement Grenier – Newcastle back in for 23 year-old

It looks like Lee Charnley has made a decent start in that we have tied up Tenerife’s young striker Ayoze Perez , and the deal will be completed when Tenerife complete their season in early June.

The Express are reporting today in what they are calling an exclusive, that Newcastle are willing to pay around £10M for Lyon playmaker Clement Grenier, the player they tried desperately to sign in January, as a replacement for the departed Yohan Cabaye.

Newcastle’s bid to sign the French International, who is in France’s 23 man squad for the World Cup, came to an end when it looked like they offered half of what we got for Yohan Cabaye – and that upset both his agent and the player himself.

However we got £20M for Cabaye and that still means the current £10M bid has not increased from January.

Federic Guerra is Grenier’s agent (he’s also Moussa Sissoko’s agent), but like our other French midfield target Remy Cabella, there are now bigger clubs interested in the player, and Guerra has said he will be in contact with his client in Brazil during the World Cup, and that he thinks he’s worth €20M (about £16.2M).

The fee is important to Guerra, because he will likely get a percentage of that fee as payment for getting the deal done.

Several clubs are interested in the 23 year-old three times capped French International, who has played for all the French youth sides and has been at Lyon since way back in 2002.

Clement would be a terrific signing for Newcastle, but with other clubs said to also be interested,  it could be difficult for Newcastle to get this lad through the door.

But we live in hope.

Last season Grenier played 41 times in all competitions for Lyon, with 7 goals and 8 assists.

What do you think?

I’m confused about the transfer window, perhaps someone can explain about when the transfer window actually opens as some deals have already taken place (Luiz, Perez).

Newcastle shot themselves in the foot when they declared no ambition.

To attract these players to the club they should have said they were building a team to challenge for the champions league positions and domestic cup, Instead they have said we cannot compete with the top six, and will not be targeting a cup. We want to finish as high up the table as we can.

Given that information who would want to come. The only players we can attract are the players who ONLY want to play in the premiership to put themselves in the shop window.

The targets we have been mentioned with are already being noticed by other clubs and therefore don’t need to be in the SD window to show off their talent.

They players we will get will be the ones who get us relegated next season.

    Well done Newcastle!

    Slank,
The English window opens on the 9th of June. Deals can be done in principle before it opens, but they only become official when FIFA finalise the paperwork which isn’t done until the window opens.

Their contracts don’t begin until July 1st, that is when the transfer will be completed.

So perhaps we already have deals in the bag but like Lee I wouldnt say a word, because we have so many crank supporters who would go mental should things change.
Why is everyone panicking anyway the world cups weeks away and most players are still on holiday

You seriously think players have ambition??
You crack me up pal, players want money and thats it. The games I see dont show a burning desire to chase down every ball and try and win the ball back. They show lazy players who dont dig in.
The dross spouted on here about Pardews poor coaching doesn’t excuse lack of effort.
Imaine if we had simione or martinez etc etc its all cr–.
Mike Williamson player of the season, look at the goals coceeded column, people need to take a serious look in the mirror or stop the pre match drinking

In the summer we will make a few signings. We have to, Ashley don’t want to but he has no choice as we would probably go down with this squad. Max 3 players for no more than 15 million. Then in Jan if we are near the bottom we will buy again. Ashley only wants to keep us in the league and use us for free advertising.
He is a brilliant business man but for us football fans its a quite dull scenario.

Even if it just about money, If at this time you were a player who had the chance to sign for NUFC or Chelsea, or NUFC or Everton where would you be going.

Players do have ambition, players want to win things, clubs (excluding Newcastle) want to win things. Yes money does play it’s part but that is irrelevant when talking about our club because Newcastle don’t and will not spend high.

So We won’t spend money, players want money! We won’t be trying to win anything, Players want ambition and success!

Who are we going to compete with to bring in these big signings?

I find the advertising one a beauty as well, why would he be bothered. Every man and his dog knows that SD is the cheapest crew going for all your sporting needs.
They’re so big now its almost like theyre above advertising

Players will sign mark my words.
I know 2 lads who play in the championship, both would like to gain promotion, but wouldnt say they’re to fussed ones on 14 grand a week the other 8 grand

The point about advertising is simple, we don’t get any money from it. If SD paid for the advertising there would be no problem. That advertising space could be put to better use and bring in some money.

But are they good enough for the premiership? and if Newcastle signed these two players, and they did well for us how long would it be before they were off to pastures new?

The point I was making earlier is that these are the players we could attract who want top be in the shop window.

    What do I think? Rubbish.
Including Premier/Cabaye cash we’ve received over £100 million this year and we’ll be lucky to see £20 million of that spent in total whilst selling off as many players of (alleged) value that they can. The Ashley regime is a disgrace, please sell up now Mike and go be businessman of the year somewhere else.

You’ve slowly destroyed our team and ripped the heart and soul out of the North East. Why you’d even want to remain owner of NUFC week in, week out in complete defiance of our loyal supporters is beyond me…..then the cash arrives and I remember exactly why. The ONLY passion you display is for something you have in abundance here. MONEY.

Newcastle has been very good for you so why not give us something back? Sell the club to someone who cares enough to invest properly in building a strong team of ‘established, PL proven players’. Someone who cares enough to want to keep them at the club regardless of their rocketing values. Someone who cares what we think. Someone with ambition.

As things stand we honestly can’t wait to see the back of you. It would lift our spirits so much it would feel like we’ve won the Premier League.

Ed when you say we “we live in hope” I for one have lost all hope, and I think most Toon supporters feel the same as me, I think a couple of free transfers and a couple of young cheap players is all we can hope for

My finale hope left the club with Cabaye and no replacement. I now shudder to think what out team will look like next season under the inept Pardrew. Ashley is taking his biggest risk with the club now and I am worried it is doomed to failure.
