News tonight that Swansea and Sunderland have joined Newcastle and West Ham for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who Newcastle were after a year ago, but we failed to get him even though a fee close to £9M had been agreed between the two clubs.
Bafe Gomis four clubs now after him – at least
Bafe decided in January to run out the rest of his contract, otherwise Lyon would have tried to get some money for him at that time.
But if Newcastle were still in interested in the player in January, we would have thought Newcastle would have tried to get a deal done quickly, and certainly before now, because when you wait and hesitate, there will always be clubs coming in for a player – and especially a free agent.
And one of the rumors doing the rounds is that Bafe is after some big wages, and that was also true last summer, for what could be Bafe’s last contract in football, after he played five years at Lyon after signing on from Saint Etienne.
And from 2008 a certain Newcastle United were said to also be interested in signing the player, but of course we were relegated in 2009, otherwise we could have gone after him at that time.
The player turns 29 in August and he may be too old for Newcastle, and his contract runs out at the end of next month.
It appears that Swansea City star striker Wilfried Bony will move to a bigger club, after scoring 25 goals in 48 total appearances for the Welsh club in his first season in the Premier League.
And in retrospect, it’s a pity Newcastle didn’t follow up their interest in the former Vitesse striker almost a year ago, after he had scored 52 goals in 73 appearances for the Dutch club over three seasons.
Swansea are therefore on the look-out for good strikers in the summer, and West Ham have been after strikers for over a year now, with former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll proving to be injury prone.
And Sunderland are always after players Newcastle are after. 😀

Comment #5I don’t think we would sign any one until July 1st. first of all, the club is mainly composed of average and untested players which we are trying to offload which will help reduce the wage bill for new players.

Comment #6its the same old story again im sure we have no real intention of buying these players we are just going through the motions of making it look like we are, then another club offers more and yet again they slip through the net, god im so bored with the way we do business its almost embarrassing to be a toon fan all that money and he (Ashley) continues to scrape the bottom of the barrel, what is wrong with the man.

Comment #8We are the mags…. Every year it’s happened and long before Ashley pitched up and we’re interested in this player and that player. All to sell season tickets.
But the major difference between then and now is that then, we usually bought players

Comment #9MA has NO intention at all to buy any player, I wouldn’t be surprise if no player comes through, in fact I wouldn’t want any player to come to us because they would be wasted here end off.
when the new season starts I only hope we get relegated so Pardew can p!ss off and fat Mike will have to sell the club at a lower price considering the club valuation will drop like it did last time we were relegated.
I know this sounds harsh but Newcastle have made alot of money this season with sales, attendance money & TV money etc,etc but MA is keeping everything so the last thing I want is for newcastle to keep giving MA his un-earned money

Comment #11I think there’s a few billionaires out there that would love to buy Newcastle but even though the club be at a valuation say 250 million but there’s also MA free interest loan of maybe over 100 million that will put them off.
so with the new money coming through MA will keep the TV money etc,etc and still have his loan where it is meaning from now on until say 3 years time he would off tripled his money and still have his loan here to put off punters

what makes you think he will sell up
players will come in and it will be the bear min to keep us in the league, they will re asses our league position xmas jan and bring others in if needed if not we wont
mid table mediocrity is what we will be from now,
as for Ashley selling up, nothing we do at the stadium will help, the place can be empty he will use tv cash player sales he don’t care as long as it says sports direct over the door and it don’t cost him anything

I didn’t say he will sell up, read my post @11
and concerning players I think he will go for free agents or players with valuations less than 2-3 million.
MA won’t be to concerned now when selling players with the new TV deal in place.
lets face it yes we finish 10th but with a small squad and played sh!t football but in MA eyes he will gamble this again with the same squad and he will hope to survive relegation but if not he will do a panic like he did last season

Comment #15Its wrong how these billionaires can just buy a club and dash the hopes of thousands. This last seven yrs has been an absolute disgrace.
The fact he can’t even spend the clubs hard earned cash on giving it a right good go is all the more depressing.
This man needs to disappear, he is creating havoc only to succeed in his own personal agenda’s such as Sports Direct.
Without hope there is nothing.

Comment #17I have to agree with you totally Stuart he is has got the mind of a spoilt kid and thats being lame the amount of money this bloke has got through Newcastle united alone from para payments and sales and still he tries to buy utter rubbish, surly stating that they dont want to play well in cup competitions and only wants to finish in top 10 surly there is some law that says he at the very leasts should try and succeed its like he wants as much as possible for as little as possible this isnt right man honestly i dont know weather to cry or scream out, my beloved toon is being slowly drained of all life,i just dont know any more but i will say this never will i spend a single penny on anything nufc till that man is gone, its breaking my heart this man.

Comment #19This just the way NUFC want it. If, when, Gomis is snapped up by another club it’ll be put down as not being able to “get him over the line”.
Of course P45due, Charnley & Ashley will wring their hands and blame the player, the agent etc etc etc, when in reality they just wouldn’t pay the going rate.
Next season will be about on loans and free agents. Nice and cheap, just as Ashley likes it.
Very little if any investment, but loads of lovely TV revenue coming in to swell the coffers.
