There was a report in the People on Sunday from Alan Oliver, the former Chronicle sports reporter, that Clement Grenier has indeed been talking to Newcastle United about a potential move to the Magpies, and this is in line with the news a couple of days ago that Newcastle were indeed back in for the talented 23 year-old 3 times capped French International, who is in the 23 man French squad for the World Cup; in Brazil next month.
Clement Grenier – talking to Newcastle
Sources in France told People Sport the following:
“Like Cabaye, Grenier can play right-midfield, as an attacking midfielder and in the hole.” “He has been talking to the Newcastle lads at the French World Cup training camp, and he is keen to go to St James’ Park.”
“But his agent will demand wages that he feels are appropriate for a player who is going to Brazil.”
It looks like our three Frenchmen at the World Cup – Debuchy, Sissoko and Remy (and maybe Yohan too?) are helping to get Grenier to Newcastle, and that’s always good to hear.
Wages will be the challenge for Newcastle, and we need to offer the young play-maker a decent wage to move to Newcastle, and this lad is such a promising player, we think he would be a great acquisition for the club.
And with close to £80M (it’s 60M to £100M depending essentially on the position in the Premier League) every May, our revenues will increase quite significantly.
And the £79.5M we got earlier this month is close to £40M more than we received from the PL last year, and that’s due to the massively increased money being paid out by TV for the Premier League games over the next three years.
Newcastle should be able to increase the wage bill significantly, while keeping the wages at a constant percentage of revenues., and that’s going to be an advantage that all Premier League clubs will have over their rivals – massive TV money every year.
It seems like Newcastle still have work to go to get Grenier, but this is promising news.
We hope it’s all true.

Agreed. Part of the excitement of my first game was standing on the Gallowgate terraces. In fact, it was probably the only exciting thing that day as we drew 0-0 with Derby.

Everything is just hearsay at this moment in time as we all know pal. We are currently in the transfer merry go round lol. I know we go through this every transfer window, But it seems there is a more positive frame of mindset with what the players are saying than in previous windows.
Whether I am setting myself up for a fall again buddy….Who knows, But I always try to look for the positives and hope for the best rather than some on here who have nothing good to say about Nufc

Comment #44Charnleys selling point should be based around international aspirations! Cabaye, Sissoko, Remy all have forced their way into the world cup squad and french squads at NUFC, theyd all had caps before signing for us but its been at Newcastle where theyve become established internationals! ( dont count debuchy because he was established in the FFF before us! Even Ben Arfa with his awful rep in france forced his way into the euro squad through performances with us!
For players like Cabella , Lacazette and Grenier on the edges of the national squad (doubtful grenier and lacazette will get many mins at WC) Charnley should be pushing the fact that NUFC could cement their place in the future euros squad

Comment #45Seperately, was listening to Talksport on the way home and apparantly Danny Welbeck wants to leave Man Utd as he wants to be playing every week. They where trying to work out where hed go in the PL where hed play every week and who could afford him and they came up with Sunderland or Aston Villa! Petsonally i think the only teams where he’d start that could (not would) pay 14m and where’d want to go would be newcastle or southampton! Bit surprised we’ve not been linked…
Its another selling point tho, as we’ve got no players, we can definately offer starting places: surely would be of interest to players like Zaha, Welbeck, Townsend, Holtby etc

Comment #46Apparantly West Ham are in late negotiations to sign Argentina league top scorer Mauro Zarate on a free. Hes only 27. Performed well for birmingham when in PL last. Absolutely can not understand why we wouldn’t be in for him.
Theyre also negotiating for Niang… These players would be wasted with fat sam

I know we are desperate for CF’s but personally am not a massive fan……Especially at 14 mill.
The price bracket brings you into Lacazette or Doumbia territory……..Yes please !!

Comment #48pleased to see this story came from the people ,chronic group as sure it wont happen. he is a larger version of marv and just as lazy and gutless. 63 shots on goal and 148 dead balls in league for along with chances of assists from open play a total of 4 goals and 5 assists. imo wont make it in prem .

Welbeck £14million? The world has gone mad if anyone pays that. £5-8million tops. Also wouldn’t want to sign him and guarantee first team football. He should want to compete and fight for a place. I get he doesn’t want to do that as he is no match for RvP or Rooney at Man U, but the level of players we should be looking at should see him having to fight for a spot here.
On Zarate, I read somewhere that it was all done and dusted to West Ham. Wouldn’t be keen on Niang on loan. Take time to adjust, and then by that point he is heading back to Milan.

Comment #58Grenier reminds me alot of Nasri (sans the attitude) neither him nor Cabella are the run through walls type.,,
If we sign them Pardew will have 2 great back up plans to throw on as sub in 75 min when we’re 0-0 or losing

Comment #59Well I’ve got to laugh about the Remy story -about him not being injured – but the fans were told he was.
There was a lot of disbelieving suggestions on here about the three French lads being at Clairefontaine for treatment -so the faking it revelation has really not been a surprise -but yet a shock when it’s come from the horses’ mouth.
So shock/horror that the Toon management lies to its’ fans also shock horror to those on here who say the manager is an honest and honourable man.
Well it looks as if Percy “Pinocchio” Parsnip has been well and truly been caught with his pants down.
What can be believed in the future.
(Fellow bloggers should always be aware that those who keep on using the phrase “well if I’m honest” usually tell porky pies).

Comment #60Pantilimon is out of contract on the 1st of July…
If it were my choice, I would be selling Krul and signing Pantilimon, putting the Krul money towards buying a much needed ‘quality’ striker.

Comment #61double offer for lacazette and grenier .. if its true about lyon but they are known for their hard negotiations so I don’t expect either without over paying .. personally not convinced on Grenier .. but Cabella, Grenier, Lacazette, Lasogga .. Zaha, .. then that would be our forward attack sorted .. a couple of quality squad players CB, RB .. and maybe Mendy to help out in Midfield in case Tiote is injured after the world cup .. pre Ashley this would be very achievable .. as jimmysmith said we are a big draw .. to good young French players especially

Comment #66Honestly think Chelseas way of getting round FFP is by signing worldclass youngsters, for a large fee for youngster, sending them to clubs with history of developing players, letting said clubs establish them and then selling them for mega money so they can buy the players they want.
Can see Lukaku being loaned to Athletico before being sold the season after for 30m, think Zoumas career will mirror lukakus. same with Van Ginkel. They did a similar thing with De Bruyne too. Mourinho doesnt ever develop young players! He signs proven complete footballers with a taste for winning

I seen it earlier mate
“I was frustrated because the coach (Alan Pardew) asked me to stay back, while in the France team the coach tells me to stay high (up the pitch).
“If you do not attack enough, people will say that you do not do enough offensively and if you go up too much, they will say you are not defensively sound.

Comment #69Think Debuchy will get to attack next year! Expect Pards to go 5-3-2 with debuchy and santon as wing backs! Worked against cardiff and we didnt get hammered against liverpool! He never changes a formula he thinks is working! Hes under pressure from the off and depending on the fixture list will be desperate to avoid any big defeats! Iv no doubt we’ll start out a back 5 with tiote sissoko and anita in midfield and try to grind out the first results

I said the same thing the otherday
did you see the sunday supplement on sunday morning they were discussing it was interesting they have quite a few they have paid around 8-10 mill for and are starting to sell them
they have bought in over 100 mill this year just selling debrune luiz mata, I think they will sell lakaku this year.
Chelsea had 30 players out onloan last season
its a great income for them if they get it right

Comment #72wolfshead – fair point -probably Remy was wanting to make sure he is in the shop window at the WC. But the disturbing thing is that the club have gone along with this deception, a deception against all their fans.
It -to me illustrates -the apparent ease -of lying. What other lies have been told -in newspaper articles, radio chats, Fans Forums etc etc.
Fans should be assured of honesty from the club -I mean its a football club -not a scientific research establishment trying to protect priceless secrets – it also gives credence to those on here, and elsewhere, who doubt things that the club says.

Comment #73Have a couple of crocks playing at centre backs -Colo and Willo -is probably the reason that Percy “Pinocchio”Parsnip does not want the fullbacks to venture too far up field – keeping them back givse extra protection -but the converse is that it attracts pressure on us.
Parking the bus tactics -well what a surprise.

why the lie
any normal person would have told him to pack his bags and go back to London, then when asked pardew should have just said he has said he didn’t want to play
its not like we owe him anything he was never gonna sign for us

Comment #78Don’t understand this about Remy .. It’s not the first time players are pandered to before a world cup .. Michael Owen comes to mind .. The problem we have I reckon is Remy is so blatant and why was he not signed up .. Maybe this highlights that he isn’t dependable .. He didn’t really set QPR alight
