Davide Santon is settled at Newcastle and is building a new family on Tyneside, and while we knew he wasn’t keen on a move this summer, it wasn’t clear what Newcastle’s intentions were, after Davide had only a mediocre season last term, but that’s not unlike many other Newcastle players.

Davide Santon – staying on Tyneside

Davide has already said a few times he has no wish to leave Newcastle, and he has even hinted he would like a new deal at the club, and news today from his agent that not only will he be staying at the club, but Newcastle have offered the 23 year-old a new deal.

The 23-year-old Italian has continually been linked with a move to some of Italy’s biggest clubs, ever since he arrived on Tyneside from Inter-Milan almost three years ago for £5M as one of Italy’s best up and coming players.

His agent Renzo Contratto has talked to AS Radio Roma, and had this to say:.

“Santon is happy at Newcastle,” “The club have just offered him a new contract.”  “Are other teams interested in him? None of this talk is true, they are just rumors.”

Davide had a couple of dreadful game this year when he was hauled off at the half, but he’s showed over the last three years he’s a good player and he played well until Christmas, and Newcastle will already be losing a number of their French players this year.

And Davide is still the best left back we have, although he has been challenged by local lad Paul Dummett and young Frenchman Massadio Haidara last season.

Davide played 28 times in total for the team last term, and over three years he has made 93 appearances for the Magpies with one goal – and it looks like he’s staying at the club this summer, and could be on a new deal too.

And one good thing with Davide is that he loves it at Newcastle and wants to stay – and that’s still important.

What do you think?
