Wage Demands Will Scuttle Striker Deal

9:03 am, Wednesday, May 28th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 9 Comments

Bafetimbi Gomis will be 29 in August and there was always going to be a decision as to whether he was now too old for Newcastle this summer, and that was particularly true when new Managing Director Lee Charnley said a few months ago that Newcastle will continue their policy of signing younger players – preferably around 26 or younger – with their best days ahead of them.

Bafe Gomis – wage demands too high

But a few days ago and even last summer there were rumors that another problem with Gomis would be the one  what would scuttle any Newcastle deal, and in the Journal today, there’s a report that his wage demands are sky-high, and that’s the reason Newcastle will not be going after the free agent this summer.

Gomis is a free agent, and in that position the player is usually looking to benefit from there  being no transfer fee, by getting a signing on fee, and good wages over the term of the contract.

And it’s also true that we will lose three of our strikers this summer, and we’ll need to bring in replacements, and for us Gomis would have been a  good signing – even at 29.

Newcastle were close to signing Gomis last year, and his agents have again been in contact with Newcastle this summer, but if the Journal is correct – he’s not one of the (good) strikers who will make the trek to Newcastle this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see – because there seem to be different reports every few days on what Newcastle’s real intentions are as far as the French International striker is concerned.

It must be the summer. :D

Comments welcome.

If we could sign him on performance related salary, related to movement on the pitch, then I would have him. Sadly, he doesn’t move much at all, or fast for that matter, so in reality, he wouldn’t cost us that much, but we would be playing with 10 men.

    Blofal

Brilliant team on that last thread. way too exciting and adventurous for Pardew though, sadly.

You’re not factoring in Pardew who is clearly a busted flush these days. Yes we lost Cabaye but had no Europa or domestic cup involvement and nobody forced Pardew to play the players (Gosling etc) he did, or set out his bizarre formations.

With a proper football manager, top 8 no problem, as it should have been this season.
Look how Debuchy played last night, the polar opposite of what Pardew has him doing.

It’s the manager more than the players I’m more concerned about. The way he gets a cut from any player sales and denies ”Remygate” Does anyone really believe a word this guy says?

So by your account mate, If we factor in potential new signings as in Cabella-Greneir-Lacazette-Siem de jong-Gomis. Are you honestly telling me that these players would not bring a higher calibre of football to Nufc ??

Excuse list is being drawn up at the moment…

    * tough because of the World Cup
    * Can’t compete with the bottom teams who have bought players out of desperation.
    * wanted to buy British but they were too expensive.
    * player had a birthday and his age meant he was too old.
    * we wuz toired from our holiday.
    * we wuz too hyped from last season.
    * we’ve got a good enough squad to compete (excuse from last year)
    *players toired from world cup.
    * young players aren’t good enough.
*the sun was too hot in brazil. The players wuz toired.

The list is endless. If you can make it up, Pardew will say it.

    Ashley out, Liar Liar out.

Until I see something to the contrary, I only expect us to sign on loan and free transfers only.

In don’t see him and his greedy hangers-on as worth it; his starts just don’t stack up.

    Moving on. ..
