It would appear that the Newcastle career of 25 year-old Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is over, and he is available to other clubs in the summer, after Alan Pardew concluded he will simply not make it in the Premier League, and that’s based on probably at least a couple of things – his poor positional play and also his lack of heading ability.
Yanga-Mbiwa and John Carver – in happier times
Mapou had a few nightmare games for Newcastle, and they started at Everton in late September, when he was playing at center-back and he was withdrawn at half time, and Mike Williamson came in, and after that stayed as first choice for the rest of the season.
And we have to admit that we thought Mapou was an excellent signing when we got him from Montpellier, but he hasn’t lived up to those high expectations, and it would be a surprise if an English club wanted to pick him up in the summer.
Montpellier would take him back, but his former club probably couldn’t come up with the money – we paid around £8M for him seventeen months ago, and we suppose we’ll try to get as much of that fee back.
Maybe we could do a part exchange for Remy Cabella – just a thought.
And his International career has gone backwards quickly since he joined Newcastle, after he couldn’t nail down a starting position in the Newcastle back four, and of course he was nowhere near getting into the French squad for the World Cup in Brazil next month, which was a goal when he joined Newcastle.
Mapou does have good leadership skills, and still has a stellar name in France, having captained the Montpellier side to their first ever French Championship two years ago, when he was only 22 years old.
And the news today is that French club Bordeaux have registered an interest in the player, but it’s going to be difficult for a French club to come up with the money to secure the services of the player, and if we cannot find a buyer this summer, maybe we can loan him out for next season.
But we’re sure Newcastle would like to get him off the books completely before September rolls around.
Mapou played 48 times for Newcastle in his short career on Tyneside.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Ketsy 13 players is a bit strong but I would say about 6 and that’s a big ask anyway.
Pardew is an old DIY Mechanic trying to tune a modern engine. He’s just ruining the components dabbling with his daft defensive system that demands everyone chips in like a mob when they lose the ball. He’s out of his era, whenever that was.

Comment #45But how do you feel about the Cacapa signing Tsunki mate? This is a huge deal. It will cost many tens of pounds to bring him back! Are you feeling a surge of excitement now?

sorry mate I disagree. What you suggest is the ideal and unrealistic, not the optimum. I think too we should focus on only one person, for now not the future, but it’s not the same one you mention!

Comment #49Cacapa? Best return since Keegan. If we can get that Geremi in as well we’d be laughing. On the outside. Great engine though – a 125cc thing fitted to his invalid cart.

Comment #51Of course, the REAL problem is that MYM, Ben Arfa, Debuchy, Anita, Santon, Sissoko, Cisse, Gouffran all grew up being coached a totally different way, with a different philosophy to what we have at NUFC. The 3 coaching dinosaurs of the old school-English game where skill and finesse were discarded for graft and strength.
Cabella, Grenier, Siem De Jong, they’d all go the same way and be disillusioned with our tactics within a season or two.
Crying shame, given the opportunities out there at the minute to recruit a modern coach.

Comment #56Has anyone else noticed we have a few somewhat unhappy players at the club? We’ve got to turn those frowns upside down mates! We’re clearly building for the future using the now famous Ashley plan. Doesn’t it look fabulous? What is wrong with that sulky bunch of players? Can’t they see the fantastic future they have ahead of them with us? Years of mid table or lower finishes. Watching other players win things from their comfy chairs at home. Tremendously poor wages compared with other Prem clubs. It’s all so exciting!

In other news, do you realise that for only £30 you can go to SJP this Saturday and enjoy pure entertainment for 6 hours? £ 30 wouldn’t get you an hour and a half of watching our hapless team being rodgered by Man Citeh. The whole world has gone completely mad, at least on tyneside.

Comment #62Well I’m really happy with the pre-window events so far at the club. We’ve released 9 players. Gosling gone, Shola gone, a few young’uns gone, Mbiwa soon to be gone. Remy can’t decide which story is correct, his or Pardew’s but plans to leave ASAP. As do Benny and Marveaux. Thank goodness we’re getting rid of all the riff raff (some of the riffiest raff I’ve ever seen). And now comes the window! Fantastic opportunities available at Newcastle United! Come try out and see if you can make the team! We’re offering reasonable wages for the right people! 😆

From Pardew favorite 11 it would only be Debuchy, Cabaye and Remy missing from this season.

Comment #65Another Pardew/Ashley homage. Please sing to Send in the Clowns. Beautiful.
Isn’t it rich? Aren’t they a pair?

Where are the clowns?
Isn’t it bliss? Don’t you approve?
Pards who keeps tearing around, Ash who can’t move
Where are the clowns? There ought to be clowns

By all means give me one example where we have reinvested and replaced a player in the same window which is what we would absolutely have to do if Debuchy goes

Comment #67I’m thinking of joining Alans appreciation society, the Pardologists. Currently I see him fitting well into a new role, starting this saturday, when he can don a paper thunderbird hat and a pinny, and dish out those wholesome and delicious Balti Pies to stoned KOL fans.
Once he’s learned to serve up crap properly, we’ll all start enjoying his pressers.

Comment #69If M’biwa leaves this summer then Pardew should be truly ashamed and embarrassed.
Utterly mis-managed and mis-used a young France international with massive potential who captained his club to the French championship.
Alan, he is not a flipping right back!!

Also, are we getting rid of any player who has even a glimmer of technical ability?!?!

Comment #71The nice thing about the pre-window time of year is that we can all speculate about brilliant new incoming players. And now that we have the Cacapa deal done I can relax and focus on the icing on top so to speak. The great players who are going to want to come to us. The Joe Coles, the Ganbold Bilguuns. By the time wor Alan is finished we’ll be competing for the Division Three league trophy!

Comment #73As regards the quintessentially local style of play Pardew likes to inflict on his imports, I think Pink Floyd were surprisingly prophetic:-
‘Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English Way,
The time is gone,
The Season’s over,
Thought I’d had more men to play…’
or words to that effect. You might be able to see what I’ve done…there…
