Newcastle Could Lose Top Player This Summer

Newcastle’s right back Mathieu Debuchy could be in demand this summer, and we thought initially that could be with PSG, the club his best friend joined in January, but Arsenal seem to be interested, and of course they have to replace their top French full-back Bacary Sagna, as the free agent is thought to be joining Manchester City for a massive wage shortly.

Mathieu Debuchy – could be leaving Newcastle

The news is that the French reporters – maybe trying to stir up trouble – asked him about a possible move from Newcastle to Arsenal this summer, and this is what he said at the Clairfontaine facility this morning:

“No, honestly, I did not hear about any talks over a possible transfers to table.” “For my part, I do not feel affected by it.” “I leave it to my agents to manage that and I remain focused on the World Cup.”

We suppose it would have been better if he had said something like  ¨I don’t know anything about it, and in any case I’m not interested because I’m very happy at Newcastle.¨

But he didn’t say that,  and it would not be a great surprise if either PSG or Arsenal come in for the player,  that he would want to leave Newcastle to join one of those clubs, who have huge ambitions – well at least compared to the current Newcastle United.

We cannot offer our players European football these days,  and we’ve had long periods where we have struggled mightily in the Premier League over the last two seasons.

In the eighteen months Debuchy has been at Newcastle,  he has become a much better player than he was at Lille, and that was also true with Yohan Cabaye, and both were first choices for their countries leading up to next month’s World Cup in Brazil.

But with Newcastle seemingly now a middle of the table club in the Premier League, we have become a stepping stone to bigger clubs for our very best players – there’s little doubt about that.

Unless and until we have more ambition to qualify for the Champions League every year, we will not be able to keep our best players at the club for more than a couple of years.

And that’s not good. 🙁

Debuchy has played 46 times for Newcastle with one goal, and he was one of our best players last season.

I fully expect him to leave but as he still has a ;engthy contract, I would hope Ashley would tell that prick Wenger, 15 million, all up front, take it or leave it

I will be surprised if we see Debuchy next season, I think he is a knocking bet to replace Sagna at Arsenal, on the bright side that would leave us with only one top class player left, Tiote, so when it comes to selling our best players it won’t happen too often in the foreseeable future.

if ashley still wants to remain as owner i expect him to keep us in the premier league myself and it’s why i say myself that pardew will not be allowed to continue performing like he has since january.

the point i make about relegation into league 1 is going of the point spoof thinks will make ashley sell the club “not that i expect it to work”, if ashley became fed up with the protesting and bad image we give his sports direct. so if he then decides he will sell the club and leave he will just think to himself why not get the parachute payment and all the money from the players and then just sell us for a cheap amaount and leave us where we don’t want to be.

I can see what your saying but I doubt that he would intentionally get us relegated out of spite, how much would he get if he sold all our top players today, we only have Debuchy and Tiote, Sissoko and Mbiwa could get a decent but not a huge fee so I don’t see that as a possibility, unless he is doing that now with a possible sale, but the clubs value in the Championship would be tiny compared to what it is now, if he was to sell it would be where the money is which is the PL, I just can’t see that happening.

Let’s be fair, if Debuchy talks at length right now about potential transfers, he risks any bad WC performances being put down to ‘too focussed on his club life over country’ and not getting as many caps as he may have done.

I don’t expect any player playing in the WC to say anything different right now.

Also, Hernandez won’t come to us and Wijnaldium for 9million is overpaying for someone who isn’t all that good in the first place. Very very inconsistent.

We are already 5 players down for next season on an already depleted squad with Shola, Gosling, Remy, De Jong and Cabaye (not replaced).

You cannot say the returning loan kids are replacements as they all achieved very little and are not premiership schooled.

As far as I can see, only Ryan Taylor coming back and maybe the new Spanish kid will boost squad numbers.

We might see a couple of freebies, loans but that will be it.

All this speculation about Grenier, Cabella etc is rubbish, in my opinion

    Spoof,
That was the key point I was making earlier on, but somehow it seemed to get lost amidst my other points, which then led down the path we went down. As I said, I don’t have answers, none of us no what would or wouldn’t definitely work. But priority 1 has to but unification and organisation among fans.

    Toonking,
I get your point re parachute payments, but they come over three seasons in decreasing amounts. Each amount pales into insignificance when compared with the TV revenue on offer, and loss of global brand exposure. I see it as the extreme scenario, but a very unlikely one.

Doubt Debs will leave unless a Cabaye esq offer comes in. I think pushing Santon in font of Debs could well work given time. Both attack minded, but could cover each other due to being defensively soundish. Just a thought as Santon is half decent technically wise. Cabella from Montpellier and Stocker from Basel for £14 million and £7 million respectively, would fill out the CAM and left sided player. All that would leave is a striker, and for this specific type of team one in the mold of Lukaku would be perfect. A quick powerful striker but they don’t come cheap at all.

expatmag .. I agree .. theres something strange about Cabella and Grenier .. usually the price is nearly worked on before bidding .. we bid in Jan for Christ sake ..maybe this is pointing to us changing targets , we’ll know by the end of the week, since if its not done and dusted by the weekend you’d be sure that we are moving onto different players.

we have raylor back from injury
dummett and hadaira are LB so santon can play RB
tavernier returns from his loan spell at rotherham.
so ashley sells debuchy and sees tavernier, santon and as the RB.

Nothing strange about Grenier and Cabella deals yet. Both players have been involved with France WC preparations and Lyon and Montepellier wants to get as much money as possible and if there is more offers on the table the players will consider those.

And then a lot of other transfer deals will depend on result from the deals for the top targets.

    heres mine:
