French Reports – Magpies Close To Signing Cabella

1:53 pm, Friday, May 30th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 28 Comments

There’s some good news in the French press today, that Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for long-term target Remy Cabella, and it would be great news if we can get the 24 year-old to Newcastle.

Remy Cabella – close to signing for Newcastle

The news is being reported in a few French outlets, including the well respected French daily L’Equipe, and the report is that Newcastle are now close to a deal for the French U21 International, who made the French squad of 30 for training for the World Cup, but didn’t manage to make the final 23.

And it seems a good deal in that the fee is said to be just £6.5M, and remember Montpellier wanted £14M in January for the same player, and if we can move quickly it would be some really good news for Newcastle fans – for a change.

The ball is now in Cabella’s court – so to speak – and he needs to decide if he wants to join Newcastle, and whether Newcastle can offer him a decent compensation package.

Newcastle went after the Montpellier winger in January, when we sold Yohan Cabaye to PSG, but we couldn’t get him in, and one reason was that he wanted to stay at his club to help them avoid relegation, which they did.

And we heard earlier this week that the Newcastle players in the French squad, notably Debuchy and Sissoko, were talking to the player and trying to persuade him to join the Tyneside cub – which was good news.

Remy has just had a good season for Montpellier, and in 49 games he scored 14 goals for the French club.

This could be really good news for Newcastle – if we can get him signed.

Comments welcome.

If anyone from the club uses the phrase “.,…over the line” in the next year then I may not be deemed responsible for my actions!

something will come up last minute, and he will sign for spurs or another ambitious club,

If we have indeed we are on the verge of Signing Cabella for around 8 mill, Then even paying 12 mill for Greneir will mean we have bought 2 big time players for the price of Cabaye.
Surely that can only be classed as a cracking deal, as im sure most fans would take that in a heart beat.
As for Ba agree would have him back for around 5-6 mill.
Mapou for me has potential but is a poor reader of the game and relies to much on his pace to get out of trouble. If we could get anywhere near what we paid for the lad I would go for Lovren as it looks like Southampton are beginning to asset strip there club

until he wears our black and white kit, I wouldn’t hope much. Remember Remy transfer?

  • 5 jayphoto // May 30, 2014 at 2:01 PM

Personally rate Grenier as a much superior player to Cabella but if we get Cabella for under 8m thats cracking business! Hopefully we sign both though, theyd both enhance our side

Now that would sell season tickets and be Champions League material 🙂 .

    Alderwireld – 8 Million
    Rodriguez – 8 Million
    Grenier – 8 Million
    Cabella – 8 Million
    Doumbia – 12 Million

All that for 44 million which is much less than the TV money received and not even factoring in the Cabaye sale .

  • 10 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 2:04 PM

Does the market open June 7th or 12th?

  • 11 Average_Contents // May 30, 2014 at 2:06 PM

Hmmmmm so it might be true we are trying to offload him! Just goes to show who the powers that be at Newcastle listen too! Parsnip over Carr! Scandalous either way

yea i would put both in that deal.. but still would keep marvo… mayb put oberton an cisse in it

  • 13 Lilongwe Geordie // May 30, 2014 at 2:08 PM

    The 9th.

  • 14 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 2:10 PM

@Jamsha We paid 9 million for Cisse. I wouldn’t let him go for under atleast 5 or 6. As we seen he is an amazing player just having a cold spot I bet if we sold him to another club in a different League he would start firing them in again.

Proud to be a Geordie, our kid is raving about Abdelhamid El-Kaoutari a CH for morocco who plays for Montpellier reckon he is a monster.

Id have Cabella in a heart beat – he would need to hit the gym though as he looks pretty light weight at the moment.

Saying that I would also aim to keep ben arfa and play both behind the striker. Unfortunately the negative tactics employed at the club at the moment means that nothing of this ilk will ever be attempted again (referring to the formation that was stumbled upon about half way through the season we finished fifth) that was then dropped again in favour of the 4-4-2

The summer window will officially open on July 1, but Premier League clubs will no doubt be busy behind the scenes well before then.

Expect clubs to announce signings throughout June (and maybe even beforehand) as they look to get their affairs in order in preparation for pre-season.

Haha as if we are that prepared

Traditionally, the window ‘slams shut’ on August 31, but if that doesn’t fall on a working day, then it moves to the nearest following date.

Therefore, as August 31 is a Sunday this year, the window will reach its conclusion on Monday September 1.

In my eyes, I dont really see Cabella as a great player. I feel that he would be a flop. I feel that Grenier would be a preferred player.

thinks his finished hea… he needs to move… he wont score any more…. beta sell him early dan sellng he for free wen he wont even score a single goal

  • 21 jayphoto // May 30, 2014 at 2:17 PM

Must be a catch 22 for pardew with HBA! Wants him gone but knows the fans love him and that bennys the kind of character that will tell it exactly how it is at nufc thd moment he leaves which would see the fans turn on pardew even more!
In pardews defence, i heard from people at the club 2 years ago that HBA got away with murder in the things he did and said in training with the coaching staff turning a blind eye, even posted it on here at the time!

  • 22 Mister Tuff // May 30, 2014 at 2:18 PM

We need to be ultra careful now -seeing that the window seems to be hotting up.
We need to ensure that any players from France fly direct from say Paris to the Toon -no bloody changing flights at Heathrow. Dirty Harry and his team/gang of Cockney spivs, barrow boys, wide boys, crooks and jellied eel munchers will be sniffing about at Heathrow -and could waylay/kidnap our prospective signings. Let’s not get burned twice.

  • 23 Lilongwe Geordie // May 30, 2014 at 2:20 PM

The window opens on the 9th of June for British clubs

  • 24 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 2:20 PM

    @123 Dummett

I don’t think he would be a flop. Just not as good as Grenier would be… But anyway get excited could be our first signing and we will welcome him with open arms anyway 😀

( A year and a half later, Remy Cabella has been sold to PSG for a fee of 20 million, 6 months later psg have offered 50 million for John Terry)

Sorry I meant to say I copied and pasted that from a paper

    Lilongwe…I don’t follow you sorry!

    Enough with the pleasantries!

I told you again U would let them both go. Your point was about not getting rid of a back up player when we are already going to struggle to fill all the gaps! I think yoo said “No point giving ourselves more work to do now”!

…and you have my remark to that!

On Mapou I don’t understand why we have Saylor on the retained list and are willing to sell Mapou .Personally mate I think Mapou has a lot to learn in the Pl. His judgement and positional sense are all over the place, And as said before relies to much on his pace. If we were to get around the same fee and Qpr did pay the 5 mill for stevie taylor. Then would go in for Lovren and Caulker and would only cost a little more

    I would make some changes.
