Newcastle And Milan In Negotiations For Swap Deal

There are reports in Italy that Newcastle are working with AC Milan on a potential swap deal involving our Italian International left-back Davide Santon.

Davide Santon Southampton+v+Newcastle+United+97Tej-dCIU_l

Davide Santon – off to AC Milan

It is expected that Fillipo Inzaghi, the former Milan striker, will be coming in as the new manager to replace Clarence Seedorf this summer, and Santon is being reported as being a top target for the club.

The news is in Sportmediaset.it,  that Milan want the Italian International left-back, but they will have to pay out the cash to get him, and that would be around £10M – that’s the figure Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will accept to immediately part with the 23 year-old.

The two clubs are now supposed to be in talks about a potential part exchange deal, and Kevin Constant is again mentioned as a possible player going in the opposite direction to Newcastle.

But we’re not sure that would be a good deal with Constant being 27 years old, four years older than Davide.

Davide Santon didn’t have a great season last term, but he was very good in the first half, but then slipped back, not unlike most of the Newcastle players since Christmas.

If this is a deal involving Constant we wouldn’t think it would be a good deal for Newcastle.

We should also rememer that earlier this week Davide’s agent said that his player had no intention of leaving Newcastle this summer, and in fact he had been offered a new deal by Newcastle  – so not sure how accurate this report is.

What do you think?

A lunatic mugs game deal, and say what we will about Ashley, he’s no mug. Pardew is, but he’s not the one in control

    Lilongwe…I don’t follow you sorry!

    Enough with the pleasantries!

I told you again U would let them both go. Your point was about not getting rid of a back up player when we are already going to struggle to fill all the gaps! I think you said “No point giving ourselves more work to do now”!

…and you have my remark to that!

Pardew will love Kevin Constant! A defensive left winger who offers zero going forward but runs around a bit… Match made in heaven, milan fans hate him

this one’s never going to happen in a gazillion years. the italian media are desperate to make a story about this and him wanting to go home.
him and his agent said he’s happy here and he’s been offered a new deal.
also, AC Milan are practically bankrupt!

    @123 Dummett

I don’t think he would be a flop. Just not as good as Grenier would be… But anyway get excited could be our first signing and we will welcome him with open arms anyway 😀

( A year and a half later, Remy Cabella has been sold to PSG for a fee of 20 million, 6 months later psg have offered 50 million for John Terry)

Santon is not going to get any better at this club. Im not saying he isnt going to be a better player – he just wont be that player at this club.

Id hang onto him, any manager worth their salt can see the formation we play and the players we have is just not suited. It really doesnt matter who comes and goes – anyone who comes in and plays well will be sold. anyone who plays badly, will be sold – as long as Ashley makes his money and gets free advertising then the club will always be run as an after thought. Unfortunately I can see him being here for another 5 years at least

    Jesper,
No idea what that post is on about. When did I say I’d let them both go? I’m confused, and you don’t seem to understand why we need back up players to certain positions, so I am giving this one a swerve from now on.

Players can not officially put pen to paper until July 1 but the Premier League allows business to be conducted once their season finishes and clubs can announce signings throughout June. Free agents can also sign for new employers once their contracts expire.

I think Hadaira given a chance would be more of a success in the LB position than santon ever will be. Santon looks good going forward but gets destroyed far to often if somebody has a go at him down the flank.

    Jesper,
Hang on, you mentioned HBA, Marv and Mbiwa as you assumed that was the work I was referring to? Is that it?

We already have gaps in the squad for 2/3 centre forwards, a creative midfielder, a left winger, probably a centre half. That is without anyone going out. My comment on making more work was ignoring any other departures that may well occur.

If milan want a swap it should be for a player we want rather than one they want rid of

Lilongwe…I am not sure you do get my point mate. It has nothing to do with wanting to have world-class players as back-up.

I don’t mind discussing this with you – I usually find it informative and pleasant, but if you are going to be an *#¤$ about it then lets just let it go. I gave you my opinion 🙂

I’d still have reservations about selling yanga tbh because I think he just needs to settle and be played in his position not played then dropped then played then dropped then played again but at left back then right back them dropped again! It’s not on.

And do you really see us replacing them both if they did leave? I certainly don’t as has been proved over the last few windows mate

That would be a great deal as Santon is not as good as we hoped he would be, but Santon does not want to go as he is settled here with a young family.

Rather than go for Constant who is a left back, make do with what we have as Haidara and Dummett are not bad with Anita in case of emergency, why not go for one of their two right backs Mattea de Sciglio (aged 21)or the more experienced Ignazio Abate (aged 27), Abate would be a good shout as he will struggle for games due to Sciglio and with Debuchy almost certain to go a good right back would be higher on the list than a left back even if Santon does leave.

What baffles me is that Santon is supposed to have a decent left peg . I’m yet to see it and he would be more unpredictable for opposition defenders if he stopped cutting inside every time .

Any other top team would just go and sign a quality LB and give Santon time to adjust to to RB position let him study for a season or 2 under debuchy. By that time Debuchy would be around 30 cash in on him and use Santon of course.

@spoof – constant is a left mid mate, was played out of position by seedorf and has played left back last season but hes a defensive minded wide midfielder. Don’t rate him at all though, guess hed be decent for sitting in front of the fullback

Your right pal going on past windows we all fear the worst. Even when there is optimistic news on Cabella you can still sense that everyone thinks it will go pear shaped. I would sell taylor and thank him for his services, But is simply just a fringe player now. Whenever he comes on your just waiting for that ” CLOWN” moment from him that will cost us a game.
As for Mapou I agree he has not had a decent run in his preferred central defensive role.
But if these players were to be sold then I would definitely go in for Lovren as he is the commanding CB we are craving for

    AC,
If it is the 1st of July then it would be unusual. It is always the 9th of June, as FIFA allow a maximum 12 week period for the between season window. According to a FIFA document, ours begins on the 9th every year.

Although I have also found the Mirror and a couple of papers which states 1st July.

Oddly, the Premier league handbook for 2013/14 states the window opens as soon as the season ends.

    Transfer Windows
    V.1.
“Transfer Windows” means the 2 periods in a year during which, subject to Rule V.4, a Club may apply for the New Registration of a player or to have the registration of a player transferred to it or for a Temporary Transfer.
    V.2.
The first Transfer Window in any year shall commence at midnight on the last day of the Season and shall end on 31st August next if a Working Day or, if not, on the first Working Day thereafter, at a time to be determined by the Board.

@Big Papiss. So true from all the games I have seen I have not 1 memory of Santon getting down the left wing and swinging it in. He probably has done it a few times but a LB should be doing it every week.

Even Evra is doing it and he doesn’t have the pace to get back now days.

Would actually prefer the lad from ipswich Cresswell if santon leaves! Looks a good player! Don’t understand whats happening with Haidara, thought he looked decent when hes played but pardew obviously doesn’t rate him! Same with Bigirimana the season before, shocked he hasnt pushed on

that’s why I would rather have 1 of their rightbacks, it will be a priority when Debuchy leaves and both of them are really top players, and with AC struggling financially I am sure that a good part ex could be done, this is just my wish, it is highly unlikely to happen but it would make sense, especially as we would still be ok on the left even without Santon.

This is just a very bad idea from the get go. If Santon isn’t actively pushing for a move, turn around and tell them to do one. Kevin Constant offers nothing for us, and I’m not ready for a full season of Dummetdom.

I think they would be 2 expensive for Ashley, especially Sharawaay, £20m ish for him and Montolivio would be £10m+ and at 29 then that won’t happen, the joys of the Ashley restrictions, how could we live without them ?
