Newcastle And Milan In Negotiations For Swap Deal

2:17 pm, Friday, May 30th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 175 Comments

There are reports in Italy that Newcastle are working with AC Milan on a potential swap deal involving our Italian International left-back Davide Santon.

Davide Santon Southampton+v+Newcastle+United+97Tej-dCIU_l

Davide Santon – off to AC Milan

It is expected that Fillipo Inzaghi, the former Milan striker, will be coming in as the new manager to replace Clarence Seedorf this summer, and Santon is being reported as being a top target for the club.

The news is in,  that Milan want the Italian International left-back, but they will have to pay out the cash to get him, and that would be around £10M – that’s the figure Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will accept to immediately part with the 23 year-old.

The two clubs are now supposed to be in talks about a potential part exchange deal, and Kevin Constant is again mentioned as a possible player going in the opposite direction to Newcastle.

But we’re not sure that would be a good deal with Constant being 27 years old, four years older than Davide.

Davide Santon didn’t have a great season last term, but he was very good in the first half, but then slipped back, not unlike most of the Newcastle players since Christmas.

If this is a deal involving Constant we wouldn’t think it would be a good deal for Newcastle.

We should also rememer that earlier this week Davide’s agent said that his player had no intention of leaving Newcastle this summer, and in fact he had been offered a new deal by Newcastle  – so not sure how accurate this report is.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

A lunatic mugs game deal, and say what we will about Ashley, he’s no mug. Pardew is, but he’s not the one in control

    Lilongwe…I don’t follow you sorry!

    Enough with the pleasantries!

I told you again U would let them both go. Your point was about not getting rid of a back up player when we are already going to struggle to fill all the gaps! I think you said “No point giving ourselves more work to do now”!

…and you have my remark to that!

  • 3 jayphoto // May 30, 2014 at 2:22 PM

Pardew will love Kevin Constant! A defensive left winger who offers zero going forward but runs around a bit… Match made in heaven, milan fans hate him

  • 4 sweendog // May 30, 2014 at 2:22 PM

can’t see this happening .. its his agent getting him the best contract offer .. hope we keep him as he has shown he can be an excellent footballer and he is still due to get better .. unless he gets Pardewed that is 🙂

  • 5 OhSholaAmeobi // May 30, 2014 at 2:23 PM

this one’s never going to happen in a gazillion years. the italian media are desperate to make a story about this and him wanting to go home.
him and his agent said he’s happy here and he’s been offered a new deal.
also, AC Milan are practically bankrupt!

  • 6 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 2:23 PM

    @123 Dummett

I don’t think he would be a flop. Just not as good as Grenier would be… But anyway get excited could be our first signing and we will welcome him with open arms anyway 😀

( A year and a half later, Remy Cabella has been sold to PSG for a fee of 20 million, 6 months later psg have offered 50 million for John Terry)

  • 7 shearerno9 // May 30, 2014 at 2:23 PM

Santon is not going to get any better at this club. Im not saying he isnt going to be a better player – he just wont be that player at this club.

Id hang onto him, any manager worth their salt can see the formation we play and the players we have is just not suited. It really doesnt matter who comes and goes – anyone who comes in and plays well will be sold. anyone who plays badly, will be sold – as long as Ashley makes his money and gets free advertising then the club will always be run as an after thought. Unfortunately I can see him being here for another 5 years at least

  • 8 spitfire_ // May 30, 2014 at 2:23 PM

Constant is pure sh!t… if this is true all in the club are more than an morons.

  • 9 sweendog // May 30, 2014 at 2:23 PM

on the same note attacking wingbacks are worth a lot of money .. 10 mill isn’t a lot for santon ..given his age and position ..

  • 10 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 2:25 PM

Aw man sell santon for 10m and PLEASE replace him with Alex Sandro best prospect LB I have seen in a long time.

Plays for Porto and he has got everything and will be a top top player. Watch him be spotted at this world cup and be blew up. He plays for Brazil

  • 11 Lilongwe Geordie // May 30, 2014 at 2:26 PM

No idea what that post is on about. When did I say I’d let them both go? I’m confused, and you don’t seem to understand why we need back up players to certain positions, so I am giving this one a swerve from now on.

  • 12 Average_Contents // May 30, 2014 at 2:28 PM

Players can not officially put pen to paper until July 1 but the Premier League allows business to be conducted once their season finishes and clubs can announce signings throughout June. Free agents can also sign for new employers once their contracts expire.

  • 13 Big Pappa Cissé // May 30, 2014 at 2:29 PM

    @ kevy

Yeah Sandro is a great talent but I would prefer Ricardo Rodríguez from Wolfsburg .

  • 14 jazzyp // May 30, 2014 at 2:30 PM

I think Hadaira given a chance would be more of a success in the LB position than santon ever will be. Santon looks good going forward but gets destroyed far to often if somebody has a go at him down the flank.

  • 15 Lilongwe Geordie // May 30, 2014 at 2:31 PM

Hang on, you mentioned HBA, Marv and Mbiwa as you assumed that was the work I was referring to? Is that it?

We already have gaps in the squad for 2/3 centre forwards, a creative midfielder, a left winger, probably a centre half. That is without anyone going out. My comment on making more work was ignoring any other departures that may well occur.

  • 16 jayphoto // May 30, 2014 at 2:31 PM

Ricardo rodriguez is a hell of a player but hel go to an elite team if he moves!
If milan want a swap it should be for a player we want rather than one they want rid of

  • 17 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // May 30, 2014 at 2:31 PM

Lilongwe…I am not sure you do get my point mate. It has nothing to do with wanting to have world-class players as back-up.

I don’t mind discussing this with you – I usually find it informative and pleasant, but if you are going to be an *#¤$ about it then lets just let it go. I gave you my opinion 🙂

  • 18 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // May 30, 2014 at 2:33 PM

Lilongwe…that should have read “I would let them both go” not you 🙂

  • 19 Average_Contents // May 30, 2014 at 2:34 PM

I’d still have reservations about selling yanga tbh because I think he just needs to settle and be played in his position not played then dropped then played then dropped then played again but at left back then right back them dropped again! It’s not on.

And do you really see us replacing them both if they did leave? I certainly don’t as has been proved over the last few windows mate

  • 20 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // May 30, 2014 at 2:35 PM

I need to run for a while, but I will glad walk it over with you later? 🙂

  • 21 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 2:35 PM

That would be a great deal as Santon is not as good as we hoped he would be, but Santon does not want to go as he is settled here with a young family.

Rather than go for Constant who is a left back, make do with what we have as Haidara and Dummett are not bad with Anita in case of emergency, why not go for one of their two right backs Mattea de Sciglio (aged 21)or the more experienced Ignazio Abate (aged 27), Abate would be a good shout as he will struggle for games due to Sciglio and with Debuchy almost certain to go a good right back would be higher on the list than a left back even if Santon does leave.

  • 22 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 2:37 PM

@Big papiss Cisse either one. We need a lefty on the left like. Hate having a right footed player out there.

  • 23 Big Pappa Cissé // May 30, 2014 at 2:41 PM

    @ kevvy

What baffles me is that Santon is supposed to have a decent left peg . I’m yet to see it and he would be more unpredictable for opposition defenders if he stopped cutting inside every time .

  • 24 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 2:41 PM

Any other top team would just go and sign a quality LB and give Santon time to adjust to to RB position let him study for a season or 2 under debuchy. By that time Debuchy would be around 30 cash in on him and use Santon of course.

  • 25 jayphoto // May 30, 2014 at 2:41 PM

@spoof – constant is a left mid mate, was played out of position by seedorf and has played left back last season but hes a defensive minded wide midfielder. Don’t rate him at all though, guess hed be decent for sitting in front of the fullback

Your right pal going on past windows we all fear the worst. Even when there is optimistic news on Cabella you can still sense that everyone thinks it will go pear shaped. I would sell taylor and thank him for his services, But is simply just a fringe player now. Whenever he comes on your just waiting for that ” CLOWN” moment from him that will cost us a game.
As for Mapou I agree he has not had a decent run in his preferred central defensive role.
But if these players were to be sold then I would definitely go in for Lovren as he is the commanding CB we are craving for

  • 27 Lilongwe Geordie // May 30, 2014 at 2:43 PM

If it is the 1st of July then it would be unusual. It is always the 9th of June, as FIFA allow a maximum 12 week period for the between season window. According to a FIFA document, ours begins on the 9th every year.

Although I have also found the Mirror and a couple of papers which states 1st July.

Oddly, the Premier league handbook for 2013/14 states the window opens as soon as the season ends.

    Transfer Windows
“Transfer Windows” means the 2 periods in a year during which, subject to Rule V.4, a Club may apply for the New Registration of a player or to have the registration of a player transferred to it or for a Temporary Transfer.
The first Transfer Window in any year shall commence at midnight on the last day of the Season and shall end on 31st August next if a Working Day or, if not, on the first Working Day thereafter, at a time to be determined by the Board.

apparently we have almost sealed cabella but lost grenier to roma.

  • 29 123 Dummet Time // May 30, 2014 at 2:44 PM

Radu would be the best choice, As he would fill pardews tactics as he rarely goes forward and Defends

  • 30 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 2:45 PM

@Big Papiss. So true from all the games I have seen I have not 1 memory of Santon getting down the left wing and swinging it in. He probably has done it a few times but a LB should be doing it every week.

Even Evra is doing it and he doesn’t have the pace to get back now days.

  • 31 jayphoto // May 30, 2014 at 2:47 PM

Would actually prefer the lad from ipswich Cresswell if santon leaves! Looks a good player! Don’t understand whats happening with Haidara, thought he looked decent when hes played but pardew obviously doesn’t rate him! Same with Bigirimana the season before, shocked he hasnt pushed on

  • 32 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 2:48 PM

that’s why I would rather have 1 of their rightbacks, it will be a priority when Debuchy leaves and both of them are really top players, and with AC struggling financially I am sure that a good part ex could be done, this is just my wish, it is highly unlikely to happen but it would make sense, especially as we would still be ok on the left even without Santon.

  • 33 jayphoto // May 30, 2014 at 2:49 PM

Still maintain that the best ive seen santon is when he played right back under Mourinho! Not really a fan of inverted wide players though

  • 34 KingNash // May 30, 2014 at 2:50 PM

This is just a very bad idea from the get go. If Santon isn’t actively pushing for a move, turn around and tell them to do one. Kevin Constant offers nothing for us, and I’m not ready for a full season of Dummetdom.

  • 35 jazzyp // May 30, 2014 at 2:50 PM

    ilove toon
Roma are still at the same stage as us pal. Its where Clement decides to ply his trade that will count.
He’s already been sounding us out to our Frenchies about coming to Nufc ,so lets still hope we can bag this guy as well as Cabella

  • 36 jayphoto // May 30, 2014 at 2:53 PM

Personally id look at offering him as a part ex plus cash for Montolivio or El Sharawaay! Money talks and milan don’t have much of it, and have no champions league next season either

  • 37 jazzyp // May 30, 2014 at 2:53 PM

I don’t understand why Dummett gets picked over Hadaira. I think this lad given a chance looks our best bet to succeed as the Newcastle left back

  • 38 BonVoyageBenny // May 30, 2014 at 2:54 PM

I see Liverpool are absolutely poaching Southampton for their players, even going after Lambert now. For 4m I reckon that’s a bit of a steal for a proven goalscorer in the Premier League…

  • 39 OhSholaAmeobi // May 30, 2014 at 2:54 PM

    Grenier £10-12m
    Cabella £8-10m
    Caulker £5-6m
Mame Diouf (free, wages less than Gomis)
    Berahino £4-5m

    Obertan 1p
    Marveaux £2m
    S.Taylor £2-3m
    Tavernier 500K
    Ferguson 300K
    Amalfitano 500K

  • 40 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 2:58 PM

I think they would be 2 expensive for Ashley, especially Sharawaay, £20m ish for him and Montolivio would be £10m+ and at 29 then that won’t happen, the joys of the Ashley restrictions, how could we live without them ?

  • 41 Average_Contents // May 30, 2014 at 2:59 PM

I don’t think we’d get that extortionate fee for obershocker mate lol :v

  • 42 KingNash // May 30, 2014 at 3:00 PM

We’re gunna need more than that matey. A lot more.

  • 43 Mister Tuff // May 30, 2014 at 3:00 PM

What confuses the summer window slightly -I still cannot get my head around a lot of it – is the date of July 1st. A lot of players contracts commence/terminate on this date.

  • 44 BonVoyageBenny // May 30, 2014 at 3:00 PM

In terms of left backs, I have no idea what Pardew sees in Dummett. He’s a very very average young left back, and I’ve seen more promise in the cameos Haidara has had than in all the games Dummett’s played in combined.

  • 45 jazzyp // May 30, 2014 at 3:02 PM

I have always thought that Xherdan Shakiri has been a wasted talent at Bayern. Another player that would add serious quality to our Midfield.

  • 46 shearerno9 // May 30, 2014 at 3:02 PM

When it comes to players that are 28/29 – for a club of our size we are going to get our fingers burned if we pay over 10-15 million for them.

Simply put if they are worth that we shouldnt be getting near them with other teams well ahead of us in the pecking order. Im personally delighted we dont sign these types of players.

Saying that i would like to see more signings overall and not one in one out policy as currently stands

  • 47 jayphoto // May 30, 2014 at 3:02 PM

@spoof was thinking el sharawaay price might have dropped after this season!
Really miss watching players in their prime play for us! Montolivio is the kind of player that could keep his level till 35

  • 48 toonking // May 30, 2014 at 3:03 PM

we should bring back some of the unsettled players who are currently at another premier league club ie ba enrique.
if we bringing foreign players into a team it should be done in small batches each transfer window not done like it’s being done here. we’ve seen a lot of players in the past not look good when they first came but then after 6 months they’ve changed. the season just gone dummett wasn’t that good but i think it was just a player not use to the premier league debuchy was like that in his first 6 months as was enrique and colo.

  • 49 James RS // May 30, 2014 at 3:04 PM

Hope this is not true. Constant is S**T. All Ashley and Co ever seem to want to do is weaken the Newcastle team and upset the fans. Santon is technically a very very good player and if utilised properly could be close to being the best player in the team…Milan know what they are doing Ashley doesn’t simple as that.

  • 50 Average_Contents // May 30, 2014 at 3:05 PM

I think we should keep him as he’s got the potential to be a top centreback but I agree on staylor he’s embarrassing

Same here I can’t seem to work it out mate! I think that’s where the club struggle too lol 😉

  • 51 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 3:06 PM

    Mister Tuff

all contracts end on 30th June and the new ones start on July 1st which is the following day, a deal can be struck and completed from the 9th of June but the players contract with the new club won’t start until the 1st of July, but he can sign from the 9th of June and the contract will be legally binding, basically a player can be signed from the 9th of June but he doesn’t get paid by his new club until the 1st of July

  • 52 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 3:07 PM

as far as I am aware that is the ruling

  • 53 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 3:10 PM

at present 1 in and 1 our would do me as we seem to be getting rid of more than what we are bringing.

It seems more like 1 in and 5 out lol

  • 54 Go toon gooooo // May 30, 2014 at 3:11 PM

It is much easier to tell something about player that played for Newcastle United than player that didn’t played here.Maybe new player is very good, maybe is average but because he came from AC Milan he can’t be poor player.Personally I think that Santon need to leave because he is too heavy for left back position and has 0 successful crosses in these couple of years.Maybe center back position is his new position in the future. If he go to Italy we will lose average left back and we will get player that will need to prove his quality in the future. Some kind of experiment.

  • 55 toonking // May 30, 2014 at 3:12 PM

i’m thinking myself saylor has been pardewed because he was a great CB for the england U21. The injuries played a big part too but most of all i would just like to see him remain here because the amount of players we have who are commanding on the pitch is getting short in numbers. Why does a foreign player want to work for the FCA or his puppets when they have no ambition. saylor is not decent but he loves newcastle through and through so the last thing he would want to see happen is we go down into the championship.

  • 56 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 3:15 PM

it’s the injuries which have ruined Saylor, don’t forget that just 2 years ago he was in the England squad so we can hardly say that his potential was not being fulfilled can we.

  • 57 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 3:17 PM

Santon is a nice guy but if MA wan’t’s him gone he will be gone just look at James Milner. He loved Newcastle and would have gladly stayed.

  • 58 Mister Tuff // May 30, 2014 at 3:18 PM

spoof -cheers thanks for explaining that a bit further. I basically get the drift -when dealing with players from the same association. However, if memory serves me correctly, the Spanish second division have their promotion 2nd leg play offs on June 22nd -and a window cannot open until the season finishes -so our bloke from Tenerife can only be “officially” be signed after this date.(unless he’s signed a pre contract -contract?????????????????).

  • 59 Average_Contents // May 30, 2014 at 3:23 PM

It’s not even because he’s commanding. I’d like him to stay because I have no faith whatsoever that an adequate or better replacement would be brought in meaning the squad would be weaker than it already is, granted he doesn’t get much game time so people would say it doesn’t matter but in all reality it really does as like you said he’s English, he understands the club, loves the club and is willing to do what it takes for the club but and it’s a big but… If he cuts out the chest thumping and fist pumping like he’s just scored the winning goal in the F.A cup final then I’d be happy!

That’s what I meant by embarrassing

  • 60 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 3:25 PM

    Mister Tuff

thats right as far as I am aware, but technically even if the season has finished and they sign on the 9th June it is still a pre-contract, but it is legally binding.

In all honesty the deal can be done months earlier with legally binding agreements made, but dates are only there for confirmation reason’s, we could sign someone today with all the documents completed but it would be at a later date when it would be made official, for our purposed as fans, the window is open now, if you know what I mean, anyway I must be off, see ya’s all later.

  • 62 shearerno9 // May 30, 2014 at 3:31 PM

    Agreed Spoof.

The only problem is that slowly but surely the club is regressing. Players actually come here to openly use it as a stepping stone – not to do well for the club. They look at ba enrique remy cabaye and surely to the future of krul santon debuchy tiote and can see the next step is generally a bigger club.

    Sad times.

For every one player that leaves the club should be looking at 1 – a direct replacement and 2 a young player that might just reach the same level. That is a sustainable way to run a football club.

Proud to be a Geordie, what I’ve seen of Cabella is he just doesn’t seem the right fit for both the EPL and Pardew, too lightweight, Pardew likes his midfield to combat and above all track back, you aren’t going to get that from Cabella.

  • 68 toonking // May 30, 2014 at 3:47 PM

but wouldn’t you feel like that yourself if you scored a goal for your home town?
the thing i think he really needs to sort out most is the fouls he keeps giving away, he like tiote and just lunges in too much.

I wouldn’t want him starting every week myself but the games that i think we need these players more than any other is the derbies and cups, shola himself was rubbish overall but against sunderland we didn’t get annoyed much. we did poor in the premier league the season before last but we did superb in the europa league and we played weakened teams in that, the reason i think we still did well in that was we had less but more passionate players in the team.

  • 69 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 3:48 PM

he does track back, but like yourself I am concerned about his suitability especially if he plays CM, a CM who’s main attribute is to run will the ball really do tend to struggle in the PL as it gets so crowded there so quickly, this is why I would have preferred Grenier as he is a passer of the ball which would in my eyes give him a better chance of succeeding, however if Cabella was to be used as a winger than that would be entirely different as he would have a bit more space, and in fairness to Cabella he does seem to offer the team a bit more due to his willingness to work a bit which has to be done nowadays, look at the graft that Suarez puts in, you can’t afford passengers any more, would Grenier be a passenger, from what I have heard he could well be.

  • 70 kevymartins // May 30, 2014 at 3:49 PM

Other than higher wages and low taxes what else is there to attract foreigners to Newcastle United?

Based on the last 50 years, winning a trophy doesn’t look likely or playing in the Champions League so what is left that Newcastle United does well?

Answer, a stepping stone to better things.

  • 77 sweendog // May 30, 2014 at 3:57 PM

Filip Djuricic .. some problem with the Serbian characters there

  • 78 toonking // May 30, 2014 at 3:58 PM

i don’t thinks it’s just pardew who wants strong phsical CM, most teams use them really. the commentators themselve say it every week “the european leagues have players going down too easy” sueaz himself get lots of critism for his diving so he has now got much tougher with himself and stays up more.

  • 79 sweendog // May 30, 2014 at 3:58 PM

Average_Contents .. I would take townsend .. some flashes of brilliance but a good attacking player than should improve .. does have some moments though but anytime he hasn’t played well is because teams have doubled up on him.

    …was that you Ibiza? 😉

  • 81 shearerno9 // May 30, 2014 at 4:00 PM

Filip Djuricic has always seemed the more likely over Grenier. Price is probably most influential but also having too many frenchies again doesnt suit pardew – they clump together and he doesnt seem to be able to get them back onside when things start to slide.

Grenier will bide his time and wait until after the world cup, his price wont go down and the clubs that want him now will still want him if he plays badly – chances are he will have a good world cup and open up even more offers for himself. We wont be one.

They will not sanction nearly 30million euros on 2 players

  • 86 Ibizatoon // May 30, 2014 at 4:10 PM

    Jesper….Ha, talk about timing mate!

Rotonda…I will be disappointed if MBiwa is sold this summer, however, it’s hardly a worry to our current state as he is hardly played as a CB anyway and is shocking as a RB (mainly as that’s not his position). Still, I believe it will have been a wasted opportunity if he is sold.

  • 91 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 4:18 PM

There is a good chance that MYM could stay, after his spell here it would be expected that a return to France would be his best option, but apart from PSG and Monaco who else could afford his wages, don’t forget that he gets a hell of a lot more here than in France, this could also prove to be an obstacle with Obertan and Marveaux, that would be good news as far as MYM goes, but for the other 2 it would be a nightmare as they are both a waste of space, having said that if we don’t sign enough players then keeping all 3 could be a god send.

  • 95 Munster Mag // May 30, 2014 at 4:20 PM

Would be happy to see Santon go – useless defender as I said early in his career here. Not worried about Mbiwa once we replace him. He’s not great – poor in the air, goes to sleep, not an intelligent player at all, relies on his pace too much, rash tackler.

  • 96 Ibizatoon // May 30, 2014 at 4:21 PM

Spoof…I’m sure those players will be willing to reduce their wages as they’re so displeased with Pardews style of management, right?

Joking aside, I’ll be gutted when Obertan goes, his odd shaped head has given me such happiness.

But then again he would want to scare David Meyler not kill him.

Ahhh. Yes I see Ibiza. The certificate of authenticity. It looks a bit crumpled and seems to have some sort of greasy stains on it. Did you wrap some fish and chips in it? Well…yes ok then. But I still intend to sell the Ring to beermonkey so don’t say anything mate as it’s meant to be a surprise for him.

  • 116 GeordieTwo // May 30, 2014 at 4:42 PM

Yes watery yellows Ibiza! They’re all the rage now for teams with very little money to spend. And yes bums do come out of their seats when supporters get up to leave early in disgust mate. It’s all part of a cunning plan to make some of our current players look really good in comparison. Beautiful.

  • 117 Ibizatoon // May 30, 2014 at 4:43 PM

G2…It’s greasy and crumpled as it’s original G2 mate. Don’t you know much about antiques? It’s old, of course it looks like it once wrapped up fish and chips. I honestly thought I was dealing with a more worldly character.

    Beermonkey will love it mate.

  • 118 Spoof // May 30, 2014 at 4:43 PM

he didn’t punch him hard enough lol

I am still not sure who the make weight would be, allegations mean nowt, there hasn’t mean any disciplinery action taken so I doubt it, but on the players, as I said I don’t know Grenier so I am only going off what others have said and he has been described as lazy, no work rate, wasteful and only has 1 decent game in 5/6, on a whole season you may get about 3/4 goals with as many assists as goals, so if he is as bad as that then he is a slower version of Sylvain Marveaux, and we don’t really want that do we, with Ben Arfa ‘s weaknesses which we all know he has then the way I look at it is that you would be swapping someone who could be great for another who could be good, both players seem as if ability is there but not often enough, if that is the case then I would keep Benny as I doubt whether Grenier has the same ability, but like I say I don’t know the lad, and as for the fans view, well some believe that Marveaux is a good player so I should take the comments with a pinch of salt and judge for myself, if he signs.

I intend too m8, but I have to admit that I am not overly excited by either Grenier or Cabella.

Jeremy Menez is on a free, granted he would demand a high wage but the lack of a fee could make the deal affordable, and at 27 he is in his prime years and we know that he would perform to a high standard, the same applies to Aaron Hunt, in his prime and you know what your getting.

‘The Mag’ is reporting the fee for Cabella has been agreed… it is just up to Cabella to agree personal terms. £6.5 million? sounds a bit low to me for a player with 14 goals and 5 assists last season.

If we do sign him, it will be interesting to see what squad number he gets – if it is number 10, we will at least know where we stand in regards to Ben Arfa’s future.

  • 139 GeordieTwo // May 30, 2014 at 5:14 PM

Ideal swap deal for Mr Ashley is when a team make a cash offer for one of our players.

A friend of of mine, who is not interested in football, remarked to me recently that NUFC don’t play in black & white stripes, but in barcodes which indicate the price the player is available at.

Of course Mr Ashley may yet surprise us by bolstering our squad. He’d better because we’ll be championship fodder otherwise.
