Newcastle Interested in Columbian International Forward

11:15 pm, Friday, May 30th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 58 Comments

There’s a decent chance that Italian Cagliari could let go of their 24-year-old striker/winger Victor Ibarbo, and the news is that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been alerted to that possibility, with the fee being around £8M.

victor ibarbo

Victor Ibarbo – Newcastle interested

We all know Newcastle are in need of maybe three strikers this summer, to replace those who are leaving the club (Shola Ameobi, Luuk de Jong and Loic Remy), and Newcastle continue to be linked with many strikers so far this summer.

The 24 year-old was born in Tumaco, Colombia and he has 7 full caps for Columbia, and he has been included in the Colombian World Cup squad.

Ibarbo started his football career at Columbian club Atletico Nacional, and he joined Cagliari in July of 2011 for just under £1M.

Ibarbo can play either on the wing or up front as a striker, and while at Cagliari he has played 111 times for the Serie A club with 13 goals and 11 assists, so he has not been a prolific goalscorer in Italy.

But as usual this summer, Newcastle will face some severe competition, and Barcelona, Stuttgart, Juventus and Napoli are all said to be interested in signing the player.

One thing that may be in Newcastle’s favor is that he has said he would be interested in a move to England’s Premier League, and there seems to be interest from English clubs.

The Italian club’s Sporting Director Nicola Salerno has confirmed this:

“There’s interest in Victor from England, and that will extend if he shines in Brazil. There are some inquiries for him from big teams.”

Once again it seems unlikely that Newcastle can get their man, especially if clubs like Barcelona, Napoli and Juventus are in really interested in signing the player.

Comments welcome.

Saw this headline and was hoping it was Bacca! never seen ibarbo play centre forward so can’t judge, only ever seen him wide right! Hes fast as though! Colombia are my bet to be a surprise bet for the WC

  • 3 Graeme // May 30, 2014 at 11:20 PM

Good grief, how many are we going to be linked with? This is NUFC ffs – it takes us weeks just to put a LOW bid in, let alone negotiating a sale & contract. What a farce, its a bloody fiasco out there.

The guys a monster (well from the one game ive seen so hardly a thorough scout report)….

Probably get into a pardew team, someone needs to play in place of cabella who pardew will stick on the bench next to hatem and marveaux for being tok technically giftes.

  • 6 spitfire_ // May 30, 2014 at 11:28 PM

According Wikipedia, this guy is a goal machine… 18 goals in 186 games.

  • 7 welshgeordie9 // May 30, 2014 at 11:30 PM

so swans and liverpool will sign quality players and nufc will sign a bunch of muppets

  • 8 welshgeordie9 // May 30, 2014 at 11:31 PM

  • 9 beermonkey // May 30, 2014 at 11:31 PM

    evening welsh

you see there are a few about

England mmmmm like the toon wouldn’t get your hopes up it will bite you in the arse

but like the young players in the squad, if we get out the group then I think quarters and it wont have been bad but our def looked a bit weak tonight

that stones looks a tidy player from everton

  • 10 welshgeordie9 // May 30, 2014 at 11:33 PM

    i forgot about stones

  • 11 beermonkey // May 30, 2014 at 11:34 PM

if they sell all there players and don’t buy
but they have a few breaking through that will come in
so its not all bad for them they have replacments in the the team
ward prowse looks a good player

  • 12 beermonkey // May 30, 2014 at 11:37 PM

seems to be a shortage of good young English defs coming through I can see him fetching big money next season
thought jones and smalling would have come on a lot better than they have, man u and defenders they just seem to get injured all the time

  • 13 welshgeordie9 // May 30, 2014 at 11:37 PM

i hope England do win it, it’s about bloody time, to be honest i can’t believe you haven’t won, i mean if you put players in from

    Man City
    Man Utd

Should have won something by now

  • 14 beermonkey // May 30, 2014 at 11:44 PM

    2002 squad
seaman, Acole Ferdinand cambel beckham scholes butt owen Jcole fowler sherringham and our very own dyer was a bit of a disappointment

  • 15 wynsleap // May 30, 2014 at 11:49 PM

welshgeordie9 @ 8 More to the point, Does anyone think Newcastle are going to struggle next year? If we had a pound for every player we have ‘eyed’, ‘considered’, ‘been interested in’ and ‘monitored’ we’d all have enough money now to buy Ashley out. As usual, the days are slipping by and the rumours are just what they are – rumours. Soon we’ll all be sitting at our PC’s late at night, waiting for the final minutes of the window to tick away, complaining bitterly that all we’ve bought for next season is a kid with ‘potential’, a free transfer and a loan player who is using us as a ‘stepping stone’.
We’re all being taken for bloody mugs by Ashley and we’re sitting here letting him do it.
We really deserve everything we get.

  • 16 welshgeordie9 // May 30, 2014 at 11:51 PM

The best chance England had was Mexico 86 and Italia 90

    Under Sir Bobby Robson (legend)

  • 17 beermonkey // May 30, 2014 at 11:53 PM

I think a lot of people are waiting to see what happens this window
not sure what nust and the other groups are up to

  • 18 welshgeordie9 // May 30, 2014 at 11:55 PM

i think we will struggle, we have got to get quality players in, but who’s going to come in, at the moment I’ve got no confidence in the team.

Swans will strengthen, and most of the teams around us

  • 19 welshgeordie9 // May 30, 2014 at 11:57 PM

And on that bombshell I’m off to bed

    Speak to you tomorrow lads

  • 20 jimmysmith // May 31, 2014 at 12:04 AM

If Ashley is carrying on in the worst possible way, having linked us so inextricably with himself and Sports Direct, then you’d imagine he’s staring down the barrel of a very public comeuppance. I can’t see it happening. Ashley might be penny wise, but he’s certainly no dope. He’ll give us a top half team, which is quite likely our lot, but little chance of less and some chance of ultimately more. Strangely enough, the longer he’s here the more likely he’ll eventually give back. You can’t take it with you, and he already has so much.

  • 21 Sazzer // May 31, 2014 at 12:05 AM

I get Liverpool but Swans? Which exciting player are they planning to sign that I have missed?

  • 22 BonVoyageBenny // May 31, 2014 at 12:07 AM

Speaking of John Stones, my best mate used to play with him during his time at Barnsley. Apparently an old head on young shoulders, very mature and down to earth. Has a bright future ahead of him, that’s for sure.

Not sure about Ibarbo, doesn’t seem prolific enough to deal with the Premier League. I personally would be aiming a lot higher, someone like Alessio Cerci who can play up front or on the wings. Then again, this is all hypothetical, I have ambition for my beloved football club to do well. Ashley does not.

  • 23 lesh // May 31, 2014 at 12:09 AM

I’m sure Tiiiiinnnnnnoooo’d recommend us to Ibarbo if Ashley asks him nicely.

  • 24 lesh // May 31, 2014 at 12:11 AM

oh Ed, c’mon man be fair…..’Once again it seems unlikely that Newcastle can get their man, especially if clubs’.

Once again? When has it ever happened before?

  • 25 lesh // May 31, 2014 at 12:15 AM

BonVoyageBenny….. Aye that Joes Stone can sing a canny serng – she can read perms as weel.

  • 26 beermonkey // May 31, 2014 at 12:27 AM

a top 10 team you reckon is that for our current manager
so really he will buy us a top 5-6 team so we can account for pardew cock ups and the end of season fall apart that has happened for the last 2 seasons

  • 27 musomag // May 31, 2014 at 12:48 AM

    Aw FFS!!!

I’m going to bed, all of this transfer BS is bad for the mind

  • 28 jimmysmith // May 31, 2014 at 12:53 AM

I tend to view Ashley as the villain and Pardew like a duck on water, largely composed, but thrashing around under the surface for momentum. Might be being overly generous to a mediocre manager, but I think if Ashley gave him a genuine top six squad, odds on that’s where we’d finish.

  • 29 Black and White with an army lol // May 31, 2014 at 12:55 AM

I still can’t believe people think we will bring any quality to the team.

CABELLA ain’t coming to the Toon, we are after rejects and rejects only.

all this BS about Cabella is just a smokescreen so we can nick Sidwell & Bent, no doubt NUFC told papers to post just nonsense so that they think that we think they tried to get him over the line , we are the fans and we know more about football then them cockney tw@ts

  • 30 Black and White with an army lol // May 31, 2014 at 12:57 AM

relegation is my top target for next season, because this way MA & AP will have no choice but to leave and if it takes relegation to do this then I’m all up for it.

  • 31 manxpie // May 31, 2014 at 1:03 AM

beermonkey or the fact that in them seasons we sold our best 2 players half way through a season strange that isn’t it??

especially as we sold our top scorer at the time and didn’t replace him
and then our midfield meistro and didn’t replace him either

  • 32 Black and White with an army lol // May 31, 2014 at 1:04 AM

I bet there isn’t 1 club in the whole world that would want Pardew there, even when the rumours where spreading saying Palace wanted Pardew but there wasn’t 1 Palace fan that wanted him there so there chairmen looked the other way

  • 33 manxpie // May 31, 2014 at 1:08 AM

black and white wasn’t it you who said that about debuchy n mbwia? lol

  • 34 Black and White with an army lol // May 31, 2014 at 1:10 AM

    spot on mate

but we will fear the worse when Sissoko, Debuchy & Mbiwa leave with no one replaced.

and to look at things HBA, Marv, Jonas, both Taylors, Obertan, Santon, Tiote + the out of contract players are probably due to leave after the WC

and no Doubt MA will get Pardew to rely on youths and reserves to keep us in the PL

  • 35 beermonkey // May 31, 2014 at 1:11 AM

    not so sure
but we all know he aint going anywhere for now that’s a certainty

  • 36 Black and White with an army lol // May 31, 2014 at 1:12 AM

  • 38 Baro // May 31, 2014 at 1:13 AM

I’ve seen this guy play numerous times….

He is SOOO fast… has so much power, his finishing is okay..

He is a major upgrade to what we have …

    until he gets Pardewed 🙂

  • 40 Black and White with an army lol // May 31, 2014 at 1:18 AM

It amazes me how MA tries to run our club – he goes for players for there true valuation or tries to get them cheaper than they are but when selling players and the club though he demands 3x more.

you wonder why every club doesn’t want to do business with us

  • 41 geordieman // May 31, 2014 at 1:23 AM

It’s been quite sometime since I last posted and as I now live in the US (very close to Ed) the blog is my main contact for all things NUFC. I am appalled at the way our club is being run and I agree with many here that if we fail to strengthen sufficiently we will be candidates for relegation next season.

  • 42 manxpie // May 31, 2014 at 1:25 AM

black and white fair enough but i do remember the same things about them joining us

the thing is we are and have been for along time now been known as a stepping stone or an apprenticeship for players and i’m sure that is our main point to all incoming’s

i.e if you come here you’ll play infront of 50’000 fans and learn the premier league then move on to a top 4 club

thats the only ambition at this club to sell players at a huge profit and on the players part move on to greater things
all at the right price of course!

  • 43 geordieman // May 31, 2014 at 1:28 AM

With all the names being bandied about in the press that we are supposedly interested in what chance realistically, do we have recruiting anyone when our stated aims at best are mid-table mediocrity

  • 44 Black and White with an army lol // May 31, 2014 at 1:35 AM

true mate, but then again there valuation will probably drop once relegation creeps up or we do get relegated ( fingers crossed )

meaning MA will lose money and also once there first match begins under Pardew there valuation will drop very low even Messi would be worth 1k if he was managed by him

  • 45 thai-mag // May 31, 2014 at 1:35 AM

8 million no chance, we offer 3 million with a few add on’s, talk for a few weeks, pull out because it was to difficult with agents, other clubs paying over the odd’s, the world cup, holidays, the grass was to long and any thing else he can think of. Another few weeks gone till the end of the transfer window with the excuse, “it’s always 10 times harder getting strikers in, but we tried

  • 46 Baro // May 31, 2014 at 1:46 AM

Black and White with an army lol

    Just look at Ben Arfa…
and about half of the rest of our squad

  • 47 ilovetoon8788 // May 31, 2014 at 1:58 AM

Extremely fast and had a great season Ibarbo.

Would be a massive upgrade in our wings where we lack real pace with someone with brains.

if only Obertan can grow brains. But we aint getting him.

  • 48 ilovetoon8788 // May 31, 2014 at 1:59 AM

I think Cabella case will be the classic ”we tried but couldn’t get over the line.”

  • 49 manxpie // May 31, 2014 at 1:59 AM

b&w not a chance he’ll always invest if we’re in the shit but only then

plus ba cabeye have made huge profits

plus debuchy and sisko will if sold make again huge profits

they havent been pardewed have they?

the problem at this club is the owner

a few weeks ago on footy focus they showed us around crystal palace footy club
and there club secretary was a 60ish year old woman that was just that a secretary answering calls and even making teas

at our club he’s now boss of transfers fuskin joke!

  • 50 Schwefelberg // May 31, 2014 at 4:25 AM

  • 51 thai-mag // May 31, 2014 at 4:38 AM

just found out Cagliari has scored 4 goals in 30 games in Italy last season. With a record like that he’s ours for sure, we love strikers that cant score goals, he would fit right in here

  • 52 terencelim // May 31, 2014 at 6:32 AM

@ilovetoon8788 or typical Ashley ass lickers will say “Well done Ashley for not paying the ransom!”

  • 53 theartfuldodger // May 31, 2014 at 6:51 AM

Well If we look back at the Jan transfer window last year when we got 5 players over the line, it initially looked like we werent going to get anyone. We bargained the same way initially and at some point reached a dead end. So hopefully were still testing the waters but will soon give up and tie up deals as quickly as that after the other..

  • 54 Ben3arfa // May 31, 2014 at 7:09 AM

I pray Mike Ashley goes broke nd ends up homeless the fat greedy turd

  • 55 cyprus // May 31, 2014 at 7:29 AM

The dilemma: spend 50 mil with AP who has a good chance of being forced out should we be bottom at Christmas? The thing is, if he too goes then with him goes the illusion of stability and long term thinking. Which is out anyway, since the guy who talked about it is gone.
Or, get him a couple of loanees, one for the future and see if he can do something with the team.
My concern: the fans are just waiting for him to make a mistake, they’ve lost patience. Many players are obviously frustrated by him.
Then again: if man u had fired fergie after his first crap seasons there would never be their unrivalled success. Maybe it’s this year that we win the PL under AP 🙂

  • 56 scout // May 31, 2014 at 7:44 AM
