It will not be good news if the Shields Gazette has it right in their exclusive today, that 24 year-old Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback is set to sign for West Ham, and not for Newcastle United.
Jack Colback – huge West Ham wage offer
West Ham struggled in the league last season, and lost their last their last six league games, and former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce came under fire from the fans, but he has been retained for next season but told to play a more attacking game, but it’s hard for a leopard to change its spots.
Colback was born in Killingworth and is a target of Newcastle this summer, and we could do with Jack’s accurate passing, but the report is that West Ham seems to have beaten everybody to Jack.
It was always going to be an auction we suppose, and not content at the £100K/week they are paying out to injury prone Andy Carroll over the next six years, it looks like they have trebled the wages Jack was getting at Sunderland, and are said to be going to sign the 24 year-old.
The Gazette is reporting the Hammers will offer Colback £50K/week – around £2.5M a year, and that offer leaves both Newcastle and Sunderland way short – at least as far as wages go.
There are other things than money involved in deciding which club to join, but if the offer is really that good, we could well see Newcastle miss out on a decent transfer target.
If that offer is on the table it’s now up to Jack to make a decision, and he has just been married, so perhaps the Geordie would like to remain in the north-east, rather than moving to east London.
If that’s the case then we still may have a chance – but Sunderland have also given him a new and much improved contract offer.
We’d love to see Jack Colback join Newcastle this summer.
Comments welcome.

I think plodder is harsh, grafter is fair, but nowt wrong with being a grafter. Especially when he is also decent on the ball. Like I said, he would be a decent squad player, but would be largely wasted in terms of his capabilities when put in a side that doesn’t play football.

Comment #2You know your club is doomed when second rate players like Jack Colback would rather join West Ham, we must be certs for relegation next year the morale at the club must be rock bottom and with no money available for transfers I can see us being whipping boys next season.

Comment #3‘Liverpool close to agreeing a deal to sign Ricky Lambert’.
Will we ever hear similar words? It’d be nice wouldn’t it.

Comment #4Pardew goes down in my estimation whenever he opens his mouth. His comments today are nothing short of embarrassing. It’s got to the point where he must be trying to kid himself, as we can all see right through him.

I tend to have a massive moan about the club/fatty/parsnip to anyone who will listen but without actually watching us they don’t get what I’m on about, shame really as I’m very passionate where we are concerned and I think it comes across as ranting
Take for instance the wife who is also a massive red, she just looks at me, her eyes glaze over and then says to me “why don’t you ring your brother” lol but I think she does get it as I go on about him after every match and make her watch/listen too

Comment #9“Well, we didn’t have Loic last year, but we found him and managed to get him over the line.” “That’s the sort of quality work we have to do this summer.”
I’m sorry but that statement there is just ridiculous! I mean howay Alan. Its hardly an acheivement to be proud of, its hardly quality work and it is possibly the most stupid, antagonising remark you’ve ever said and u say some stupid shit ALL the time!
Maybe he’s realised we all think he’s a completely useless t**t and has now taken the F*** Y** approach of Ashley?

Comment #11Average, I’ve got a few non-toon fans to watch a game then listen to the idiot’s post match interview and then the next pre-match one.
They too are now awake to his lies. They were quite appalled in fact.

The worst part of his statements isnt the lies he spouts, it’s the fact he believes them wholeheartedly

Watson was certainly one, Hooper was around a similar time as well. Can’t think of any from later than that time.

Comment #20The Glazier cant stop spouting guff. A total F wit…..Lets face it we are gonna sign no one as long as this person is in charge
On another note I have watched Peru a few times before they appointed the new Uruguayan coach. They play some good football and it should make for a good game today. The bars here in Lima will be full. They are football daft.

Comment #21We don’t have a grafter in the team. When the chips are down, this lot collapses. 99% down to Pardews abysmal man management of course. Colback would go same way. If WHU are willing to pay that, don’t blame the lad

Comment #23Get used to seeing this over the summer. We will not compete with ANY premier league club on wages. He is a local lad but a very average player and we have been beaten to his signature by a very average team. If this is the case, how on earth are we going to sign very good players like Cabella.
When the club get rid of all the players they want rid of, sign no bodies as replacements, the only thing we have to look forward to is a long hard relegation fight that will end in tears.
