Newcastle To Play Spanish And German Club In Pre-Season

The pre-season for Newcastle has finally been settled,  and while playing in the  four-team Schalke 04 Cup in early August,  Newcastle will play Malaga on Saturday, August 2nd, followed the next day by playing host German club Schalke 04, so we will not be playing against West Ham, who are also in the tournament.

Lee Charnley – good job in arranging pre-season
Cheer up Lee – you did well

We’ve said it before, that Managing Director Lee Charnley has done a very good job in getting all eight pre-season games arranged so early, and that will help the fans arrange travel for the games, for those who want to attend them.

This is now Newcastle’s full pre-season list of games – and quite impressive too – with the games coming thick and fast:

    Lost Plot,
I wouldn’t worry too much how they do on loan. It is more about experience. If they do well great, but Carroll was a complete flop on loan at Preston, and came back and became what he was for us.

    King Nash,
There is no point keeping both. Tav has doe well in League 1 and lower before, but failed to bring that with him when coming back. Raylor is a capable player in the Prem and I would prefer to keep him as back up, with Mbabu the youngster to come through in time (hopefully).

Not to mention that while Raylor has been out, rather than going home and getting fat, or swanning off and jumping around in your home clubs crowd, he worked with the kids and went out to keep an ye on our youngsters out on loan. Deserves a chance to show he can still cut it. He will have been affected by injuries, but it would mainly affect pace and ability to twist and turn, neither of which were strengths of his anyway.

Lilongwe…last season we used about 15 players of our squad on a regular basic and I don’t see that changing. Only injuries and suspensions forced Pardew to make changes.

…so no I won’t keep players I don’t rate as good enough; I would even argue using players that wasn’t good enough (though keeping in mind in the first place we had better players on the bench) is partly what got us in trouble in the first place.

*that and NoNuts inability to replace players he sold (..and Pardew, but that is a whole new debate in itself)

Will the club by new players if the numbers go down? I don’t know! That’s the clubs problem.

Every PL team needs a decent sized pool of players. 15 is not enough for a season, Jesper is correct in that he used a fairly small group of players but surely that says more about the quality of options available? Surely that means recruitment is even more important.

    Jesper,
You are right, only 16 players made more than 10 Prem starts, however, that doesn’t mean you don’t need a squad of players or back up. Mourinho said you need 2 players in every position. Therefore, right back Debuchy and Raylor. Hell, we might not even have Debuchy, but I’d hope if he left we did replace him.

I wonder if we will even have a senior striker to play in some of these friendlies, as currently we do not have one. There is always Gouffran, but he is our first choice left winger now. It would be kicking the can down the road, to play Gouffran as a striker, only for him to be switched back to left wing again for the start of the season.

Pardew – ‘Well, we didn’t have Loic last year, but we found him and managed to get him over the line’

Found him? Found him after he’d turned us down months before we found him?

Who is Pardew trying to kid? It’s not just Remy that needs replacing – or has he forgotten about the fact that he’s been complicit in selling other players who have yet to be replaced?

Does he really think that fans can’t see what’s going on?

Pardew’s behaviour in being stooge and mouthpieace for Ashley is contributing to a season that’s gonna kick off with fan discontent and a paper thin squad.

Ok, the window’s not open yet but while other clubs are signing players up, we are being conditioned to yet another period of bullshit, sales and in desperation, loan signings.

Will Ashley ever learn? Does he want to learn? Does he care about Newcastle United?

    No, no and no!

By parsnip saying about remy being replaceable, its a fair bet the club has given up on signing him

The only bright spot in the remygate saga is of course the club can move onto target no2……….

    AC,
I imagine the club gave up on him after he made his little announcement earlier in the week, and Pardew issued a denial. They aren’t prone to making sensible decisions, but after that statement, the club would have looked even more farcical if they then signed him.

I wouldn’t mind knowing where NUFC stand at this moment in the league table of turnover in Europe, has TV revenue gone up in the rest of Europe or just here in England? I know Spain has a different method of shelling out TV money with the vast majority going to barca and real as they have separate arrangements, is this also the case in Germany and France.

I know it means nowt like as it seems we have become a money maker rather than a ego based search for achievement.

I’m holding onto the belief that all signings have been sorted and signed up, we were not aware regarding the five signings that came in a couple of years ago. Or did we have any prior knowledge of the cissie signing.

I believe that when LC approaches a club about a signing, he tells them not to disclose our interest as he promises them the full amount up front.

Just a theory, I hope I’m right. I live in hope.

    Cestria,
All countries have different TV deals for their leagues. The Premier League is far and away the largest TV deal.

tequila…I think recruitment is very much important and i don’t believe the answer is retaining those fringe players who are not up to the challenge.

…but whether the club will buy the necessarily players I don’t know!

Lilongwe…if by any means by point got lost (I think it did 😉 ), I am ot saying we don’t need a bigger squad just that we should not keep players that are not good enough just to make up numbers.

That is what got us in trouble in the first place. They need replaced. If you keep them on the books they won’t be replaced and that’s for sure 😉

    jesper,
But it is about building. It won’t happen in one window. No point getting rid of a back up player when we are already going to struggle to fill all the gaps anyway. Priority replacements are for the ones that will definitely leave, or have already left.

No point giving ourselves more work to do now, when history would point to us struggling to do the work already required. So, to get back to my original point made hours ago, I would keep Raylor and allow Tav to go.

and Lilongwe…I would let both go and replace those who won’t cut it and keep those who can make a difference!

…so if you have a point in what you are stating then keep Mbiwa, Marv, Benny, Debuchy and maybe even Abeid and start recruitment in the areas needed 😉

I wouldnt get any hopes up too high about the Cabella deal. Seems we can only ever bring one in, when one goes out – M’biwa talk with Bordeaux have reportedly broken down due to his wage demands..

    And so the circus continues…
