Roma are expected to lose their top 24 year-old central midfield play-maker Miralem Pjanic in the summer, and he’s been linked with some big clubs this year, including PSG and Manchester United.
Clement Grenier – Roma now interested
And there is news in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, that Roma manager Rudi García is very interested in 23 year-old Lyon play-maker Clement Grenier, and he knows all about the French International when he managed Lille in the French League.
Newcastle tried to sign Grenier in January as a replacement for Yohan Cabaye, but we were unsuccessful for a number of reasons, including the player didn’t want to move clubs in the middle of the season, as he tried to get into the French squad for the World Cup.
Grenier has achieved that ambition, and Newcastle are in for him again this summer, but there are also big clubs said to be interested in him, and they include Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham from the Premier League.
Grenier is a gifted technical player, and he would be a popular player on Tyneside – if we can get him to the club this summer, but it’s worrying that so many big clubs are now interested in one of our top midfield targets.
And there was an ominous warning from manager Alan Pardew yesterday, that this transfer window could be a difficult one for the club.
Well, we knew it wouldn’t be easy, but it’s also one of the most important summer transfer windows in recent memory, so me must get some of our top transfer targets in before September.
Whether that will include Clement Grenier is a good question, but the more interest in the player this summer from big clubs, the less we think the chances are that we can get him through the door before September rolls around
But there’s always hope – we’ve been wrong before. 😀
What do you think?

Comment #1“Well, we didn’t have Loic last year, but we found him and managed to get him over the line. That’s the sort of quality work we have to do this summer.”
Haha, a quote from Pardew on replacing Remy’s goals. I think “over the line” and “the sort of quality work” are my 2 favourite bits.

Comment #3No chance we will have to pay a transfer fee and he will want top players wages, why don’t we just dispense with all the players we have no chance of signing and just get down to the 3rd and 4th choices, these being young untried french players and free agents because that is all we can hope for

1 full summer, 1 loan signing with no future purchase agreement. It would explain why he thinks he is doing a good job if that falls into the category of “quality work”.

To be fair the club never said that, it was the papers presuming that because of the world cup prices would go up and because we’re so tight fisted that we wouldn’t pay the fees after the world cup so we’d buy them before
It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest to hear the club leaked something like this to the press to get people’s hopes up for more season ticket sales! I wouldn’t put anything past them mate

Comment #8Here we go with Ed’s Groundhog Day transfer window blog again.
Seriously, and you talk about Pardew shamelessly by wheeling out the same old lines over and over again. Very disappointing

Comment #10I can’t quite shake the feeling that we get lied to on a weekly basis and therefore I do not believe anything the club says under this dictatorship!
A sad state of affairs if fans feel like this about the club they’ve supported all their life

Yeah, the club haven’t said when business would be done. I fully expect us to do most of our business during the World Cup, as other clubs will be watching that, we can quietly go about our business without too much attention being drawn to it..

Comment #14In other news, Campbell is already putting in extra training to get ready for next season. Sort of puts a line through comments saying he didn’t really have the heart or attitude to make it.

We all know the puppets idea of good work falls well below the standards of any normal, sane person as testified by his comments after matches that we played piss poor in
“we worked really ard today but maybe the players was tired from their 2 days of training I put em fru coz trust me, I really tested em, 100%”

Yeah, I saw that. I hope they go for him. He said the same last year when he was still at PSG that he would like to try his hand at management.
Would be really interesting to see how he gets on.
On Ferguson, he barely coached at all from about 2001 onwards, yet he still was given the role of Head of UEFA Coaches panel.

I’m not sure cunning is the right word, it may well happen by chance rather than being planned. It would certainly fit in with the way they like to operate in the transfer market. Avoid competition and bidding wars.

Comment #20Quality work? We haven’t signed a notable player to the club in two transfer windows, just a couple of loan players. How is that quality work, Alan?
Another example of brainwashing with subtle hints of subliminal quality and work in the sentence. In reality we’re the only club over two transfer windows not to sign anybody aren’t we?
He is a sly con-man.
Tells us the subs made an impact in the post match interview, yet we have one shot on goal all second half.
He’ll tell you what portrays him in a not-so-bad light, even if it is the opposite of what has happened.
That’s why people who don’t watch us regularly have a distorted view on us. They pick up bits and bobs in the media read his lies, plus see a table position and think they know what’s up. They don’t.
Ashley out, Pinocchio Pardew out.
